The Final Bosman Show

I get his Toy Story 3 point, but not sure how it applies to baby Rosalina.

You're taking an orphan child and completely changing her backstory for the sake of fitting into another game. I don't agree with it applying to Mario Kart either, but I enjoyed the episode if only for Kyle's passion about the matter.

Bosman seems to be far too hung up on the cohesiveness of a game's world. It makes sense in games that are shooting for realism, but not things like Mario (or Toy Story for that matter).

Also, I don't see why Rosalina can't be baby-fied if all the others were. Because her story is different than Peaches? He wasn't making a lot of good points in this episode. Although Funky Kong being a secret character was quite amazing.

^^^ A world can be coherent even without being realistic.

The first part i get, i just never assumed Mario Kart to be canonical, though i guess it could work, in that sense.

Yeah, I mean I have that little voice in my head when crap like that happens too and you can't turn it off no matter how hard you try. It just doesn't apply to Mario Kart in that sense as it's a game with a ton of fan service with no other real point.

His choice of example was pretty poor, there are many other examples that illustrate this much better.

Am I the only one who find it extremely funny how Nintendo chooses the easiest possible way to include a new character? Painted Peach, painted Mario.

Also, I don't see why Rosalina can't be baby-fied if all the others were. Because her story is different than Peaches?

Her story revolves around an unpleasant, lonely childhood converted to one of foster parent to a lot of newborn stars. Her childhood is her story. Mario/Luigi's baby incarnations aren't substantially different from the first time they were introduced.

Finally got around to seeing it. Disagree about Toy Story - think its a silly complaint.

That said, I've never really liked the whole "Baby [character]" nonsense. Its pretty stupid. I do think characters should be respected, and I would love some semblance of continuity in mario games - that world is so cool and creative. I imagine a rock solid Mario canon like Adventure Time's world of Ooo, and thats something that really interests me. As it is now though, I sort of susbscribe to Miyamoto's view of the Mario cast being a set of actors that just sort of blend into whatever story they are telling at the moment.

EDIT: The 3D Zelda games are all connected, saying otherwise is factually wrong. But the older games being in that same canon is hogwash.

EDIT 2:
Bosman seems to be far too hung up on the cohesiveness of a game's world. It makes sense in games that are shooting for realism, but not things like Mario (or Toy Story for that matter).

Non realistic worlds can still have rock-solid canons. See: Adventure Time.

Yeah this is the first time I thought Bosman missed the mark. None of his arguments/complaints made any sense to me, right down to the Buzz Lightyear reset button thing. I'm still not sure where he was going with all that.

The Buzz Lightyear thing is implying that... for the sake of a contrived plot point, they sacrifice what makes Buzz, who he is. Instead of the same level of true independence that the other toys possess, a single flick of a switch is able to completely nullify Buzz's personality, what makes him HIM. It's arbitrary, and steals some of the depth of the character's merit/value, if he can just be switched off, without any weight to the action.

Bosman is always great for some E3 hype, and I think he was pretty on the mark for most of those conferences.

I thought Nintendo's 2010 conference was the shiz, though.

Good episode, we should post ours.

MS, three out of five, the only announced game they have that I care about is Below, but they've been so proactive, I have hopes to see something really surprising. Should be some interesting third party titles, hopefully FO4 as Bosman mentioned.

EA, one out of five, the only great game EA has shipped in an entire generation was Mirror's Edge, hopefully Mirror's Edge 2 is the follow up we all deserve.

Ubisoft, one out of five, they make better games than EA at times, but their conferences have been really awful for years. Even with the hype teases. And I imagine when they show The Division, it'll be the very notable downgrade Watch Dogs was, but unlike Watch Dogs, I am excited about The Division, so I'll actually be bothered.

Sony, three out of five, I know that they could easily have the best conference, they have several major exclusives unannounced, but they've been doing the absolute minimum at every showing to keep momentum, and it's been effective, but it's boring as hell. I want to see TLG, Beast Souls, MM's game, GG's game, Bend's game, a CG teaser for GoW4, GT7, just an onslaught, but they won't, they'll barely show anything I imagine.

Nintendo, two out of five, if they show Zelda, I'll be excited, I want to see Bayo 2 and X, but they're pretty much dead, so unless the show comes with some game changing news, I'm not sure if it'll be worth watching at all.

I wonder if Bosman will do weekly shows on each platform leading up to the conferences now. I hope not.

Your highest mark was a 3/5. You don't seem very excited for E3 :(

I feel the same as Kyle about Nintendo. Each year they disappoint me (2010 was the last one where I was thoroughly satisfied) but the next year I keep thinking, "This is it. They've learned from their mistakes."

):

I'm more hyped than ever.

Wait, how is X dead, exactly? It just had some new footage in February and as of last week Nintendo is still listing it for a 2014 release. The same question for Bayonetta 2, actually, since that got a full trailer in February.

That's just poor phrasing, the Wii U is dead I meant. It's hard to get excited about a platform I really don't think I should buy, unless something radical happens.

Good episode.

Microsoft-4/5
I feel like they'll be bringing a ton of good stuff this year. I want to see what their new studios have been up to.

EA- 2/5

EA as a company doesn't have much to show that will interest me aside from Mirror's Edge, so I'm not really excited for their presser.

Ubisoft- 3/5

Most of their games end up disappointing me, but the idea that Beyond Good & Evil 2 could finally be shown makes me optimistic.

Sony-4.5/5

I have no doubt Sony will be showing everything they feel comfortable with. They have to know MS is looking to gain back some major mind share, so they need to play hard. TLG and Project Beast would make their conference the best in recent memory for me.

Nintendo- 3/5

I'm excited for a new Zelda but I don't know what else will be there. Nintendo has a 50/50 track record of being disappointing or incredible, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Fun episode. I guess ill do mine.

MS 3/5. All signs so far point to a press conference solely dedicated to games, which would be a nice change for them. Kind of a low score because ive pretty much made up my mind already that ill be buying a ps4 first.

EA 1/5. They will probably show a really great looking star wars game and then ruin it with matricks.

Ubisoft 4/5. Like kyle says they usually have at least one big surprise, plus im excited for any new AC info/trailers.

Sony 3.5/5 Maybe there will be some big 1st party surprise, but I think we basically know everything they will show already + some 3rd parties will show their games since they will look nice on ps4. Up to 5/5 if crash bandicoot happens.

Nintendo 4/5. Probably get another trailer or at least info on the pokemon remakes. Hopefully a zelda wiiu trailer. Im hoping they will announce some 3ds games too since i plan to buy one soon.

Great episode, Kyle's enthusiasm is seriously contagious.

The prospect of Project Beast being shown at Sony's conference makes me really hyped for E3 on it's own.

MS - 3/5 Mattricks

I worry they aren't done talking up how close to parity they are with PS4's package of hardware and software services. I also really worry about 'coming first to XBox One' coming back from last year. I guess I'm just not ready yet to get excited about another MS console when I can look at the one I already have and say 'well, I sure played Rock Band on that thing.'

Sony - 3.5/5 Indies

I already know I want a PS4 but neither company has made a strong case for why I should own one right now, so any new games they unveil are unlikely to make me dive in any sooner than MGS V's release. Unlike Bosman I am very hungry for PSNow details and while I don't want a stage demo I want to know how good the service is going to be.

Ubisoft - 1/5 Aidens

I've just stopped caring. I don't like FarCry or Assassin's Creed games and any thrill I felt from Watch_Dogs evaporated earlier this year. I wouldn't get thrilled about the Division no matter what was going on because of the strong multiplayer focus.

EA - 3.5/5 Season Passes

I do want to see all their new games. I'm probably not going to buy any of them, but I'm interested in where they're taking Battlefront 3 and they always have really well-produced on stage demos.

Nintendo - 4/5

I'm ripe to be excited about Nintendo again, and am ready for them to give me a good reason to charge up my 3DS again.

MS: 3.5 policy changes out 5.
Phil Spencer seems to be leading them in the right direction and hopefully they have the games to back it up. (Halo isn't going to cut it)

PS: 4 people leaving their job out of 5.
I feel like their conference will be predictable. There will be a couple surprises, some new stuff and a lot of boring and morpheus which I don't care for yet. But I love me some playstation and I have hope for some heavy hitters and low blows

EA: 2 worst company in America votes out of 5
I don't like their company but Battlefront and Mirror's Edge.

Ubi: 1 game (that plays like all their other game just in a different setting) out of 5
Ubi gon Ubi

He is clearly more found of Nintendo.

My expectations:

MS: 3/5. They are hyping it to much, which is not a good thing if you wan't to surprise people. They do not transmit confidence announcing all their changes now, before they were betting everything on Titanfall, now that that ship has sailed they seem to have lost hope. They probably have enough for a good conference tho, otherwise they are in big trouble.

EA: 4/5. I'm actually interested in what EA has to show this time, I think they have a lot to show that we already know of and there will probably be more.

Ubisoft: 2/5. I'm just tired of Ubisoft games, after The Division and WD I think they should be more careful when showing their games.

Sony: 4.5/5. The same time last year everybody was expecting Sony to fumble at E3 and supposedly announce similar plans to MS, with MS stating they were going to murder Sony, we all know how that turned out. I like their silence, I'm confident in what they have to show. Morpheus, The Order gameplay, Project Beast, Uncharted 4, MM game, TLG, there is certainly potential for bombs to be dropped. I take 0.5 away because Vita will probably be ignored.

Nintendo: 4/5. Expectations are low enough that even a new Zelda alone would satisfy and there probably will be more given their need to turn things around. The fact that they are not doing a traditional presentation doesn't please me.

That's my thinking as well for Sony. I don't think they will go all-out. They will just show maybe one or two unannounced titles, Playstation Now, hype up the fall titles and call it a day. I hope I'm wrong. I want to see TLG, MM game, GG's game, Bend's Game, SSM game, and PD's game. But I think we'll see only ONE of those at most (I'm counting Beast Souls as unannounced).

MS: 2 "one-eighty"s out of 5. They could well show stuff I'll get excited for (various multiplats, maybe MGSV again, Halo) but I just don't expect much from MS. I expect them to show some kinect stuff as a show of them still supporting kinect and how their vision hasn't changed etc

EA: 3 Star Wars EU novels that are no longer canon out of 5. Battlefront would be cool to see but hoping for more Star Wars getting shown. Dunno what to really expect apart from them showing off their yearly sports games and other boring stuff they always do.

Ubisoft: 3 downgrades out of 5. Hopefully more Division, hopefully another surprise game at the end. Hopefully other cool games and less kids shouting at a tv with rabbids on it.

Sony: 5 beanies out of 5. Hopefully we see some Infamous DLC, Deep Down, Project Beast, some vita games, uncharted 4 and some unannounced PS4 goodness.

Nintendo: 4 elephants stumbling along to their own tune out of 5. I want Bayo 2, more Smash, X, Zelda, Pokémon Oru/Asu I want (but won't ever get ;_;) Star Fox and F-zero. Looking forward to this, hope they don't Nintendo it up.

I loved his rating criteria for Sony. I will miss tretton...

I'm not excited for one conference over the other, I just have certain games like Batman and The Witcher that I would love to see. Probably won't even bother watching Nintendo's direct.

Microsoft: 4/5 - If anyone else but Phil was in charge the rating would probably be lower, so I'm confident they'll deliver a good show.

EA: 2/5 - Not really interested in anything which they're likely to show. Could surprise us though.

Ubisoft: 4/5 - Really hyped for the new AC since it's going back to traditional cities and it looks damn good. Since it isn't a cross-gen title, I'm not expecting as big of a downgrade as Watch Dogs.

Sony: 4.5/5 - They have the biggest potential out of all the conferences imo. GG RPG/MM game/Project Beast/SSM/Uncharted gameplay/Sony Bend game. Last year winning E3 was very simple for them, this year not so much, so I'm hoping they'll focus on megaton announcements.

This got a laugh out of me. I guess a lotta people didn't quite understand Kyle's heartfelt ramblings about Buzz Lightyear in TS3 lol

Sony is the wild card. Nintendo's Nintendo; new entries for tried and true franchises with a surprise or two. Microsoft is yelling "games! GAMES! GAMES!" and you know they will deliver from the rumors to the announced-but-seldom shown games. Conversely, Sony has few announced games and few leaks; Driveclub, The Order, Uncharted 4, Beast Souls. Three ways to look at it: They have a great poker face and will have a blow out at E3. They aren't pressured to reveal its hand yet with PS4's strong third party and indie support. The big games aren't ready to be shown yet with Sony announcing games for the near future.

Ubisoft, EA, and third parties on Sony and Microsoft's stage should be good. I'm excited for this E3 to see the first wave of games made for the PS4/XB1/PC.

Microsoft - 2/5 Phil Spencer T-Shirts with japanese games
I could kind of be excited if they fully fund some actual original japanese games but I feel like it's going to be very heavy on Halo and multiplat games they're obliged to show.

EA - 0/5 Fun Bux, the zany mad up currency that costs real money

I wouldnt be interested in what they have to offer even without their money grubbing.

Ubisoft- 2/5 Fake CG numbers they'll never live up to

Not interested in Watch Dogs or the Division of any of their other AAA tat but they can occasionally strike out with some interesting smaller games

Sony - 3/5 Of these games you've seen before

Like with Microsoft I think they're going to be too beholden to third parties and will spend a huge amount of time showing the new assassins creed, call of duty and other annualised franchises that bore the shit out of me. I'm hoping as hard as I can that they'll deliver on some of the #4thegamers stuff and answer some prayers for franchise revivals, localisations etc

Nintendo - 2/5 of a life cycle

I think Nintendo will have some great games to show but it'll all come with the caveat that this is pretty much it, this is all you're getting until the next system.
