November 2014 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes December 9th

Ass Creed bundle outsold the GTA bundle for the month. GTA bundle selling out and Ass Creed bundle being still avaialble doesnt mean much at all except MS obviously shipped more and they're still the top seller.
Does it, tho? That's a GTA bundle we're talking here, they definitely shipped quite a bit out there. And it still sold out in a manner of hours.

The truth of it is simple; MS couldn't have shipped THAT many more ACU bundles to Amazon than Sony shipped GTA ones, yet the GTA bundle sold out in hours while the ACU one has been in stock all month. The demand is simply higher for Sony's bundle. Besides it'd appear MS prioritized Target in their stocking, and that's evidently showed to have worked to some big effect.

Don't see the point in trying to refute the obvious regards Amazon and demand for one bundle vs. the other tho.

November monthly for Amazon shows AC bundle at #4 and GTA bundle at #17 still.

Not sure what point youre trying to make here. If Sony shipped more GTA bundles to Amazon they would have outsold them for the month?

Fact is the Ass creed bundle outsold the GTA bundle for November and has been number 1 for the last few days.

You both kind of help illustrate a problem w/ Amazon rankings: you never know the difference between the rankings. It could be a difference of 50,000 units, or 5,000, or 50.

And I heard from others that XBO tends to do better at retail, so maybe they didn't ship as many bundles to online retailers as people think. Point of all this being, you'd expect a bundle that hasn't been officially available for over three days and reselling for $500 to be completely off the charts, but it's still at #17. You'd never see that w/ an XBO bundle, so sales aside I think it's safe to say there's more demand for the GTA one.

The ACU bundle never went out of stock, or MS's just very good at consistent smaller deliveries.

Way too much time is spent trying to parse Amazon numbers. Amazon sold more copies of Titanfall for the PC this month than PS4s, so we are clearly talking in the low 1000s here. With the amount of consoles that were sold BF Amazon is basically insignificant.

I'm not sure how much difference it would have made, but Sony should have advertised that there was a $10 psn voucher packed in the BF GTA V / TLoU bundle as well.

I was seriously shocked then amped this morning when I found a leaflet to add $10 to my psn wallet in the box. Anything to add value against MS' monster $329 deals.

Is it? I think the most plausible explanation for the lack of PR is that MS cannot say with enough confidence that XB1 outsold PS4 during Black Friday.

The effect of such PR will rapidly diminish as the memory of BF fades from the minds of consumers. If they won, there is no better time to tout it than right after the event.

In the first two weeks of November, Microsoft knew XB1 sales and they also got reports from everywhere that XB1 was the best selling console. In contrast, BF possibly gave them mixed reports with some retailers selling more PS4s.

If you look at the UK where Sony has been aggressive with pricing, sales between the XB1 and PS4 are basically tied for the week. The XB1 specials in the USA were too strong Black Friday, $329 plus various retail specific bonuses. One could definitely question why Sony hasn't been as aggressive in the USA as they have been in the UK. It is possible Sony just doesn't care about losing a month or two in the USA when the lead is expanding practically everywhere else worldwide.

So is sony really not going to restock the GTA bundle? If not they are simply conceding the holiday to MS. Or maybe they didn't expect them to sell so fast. Thought they would at least be around till cyber Monday.

Not necessarily. Just because it's a small sample size doesn't mean we can't extrapolate it to give us an idea of the bigger picture.

NPD does a mediocre job. I can't believe they don't have capacity to provide weekly sales.

You said it! Although at one point they did have weekly sales. Check it out:

According to a Pachter interview, Sony doesn't care if they come in second while still selling crazy numbers. Supposedly, MS is the one that really won't be happy with anything but first place. Which may shed some light on each company's actions (and pricing) this Black Friday.

You may be right, but GTAV bundle sold out in less than 48 hours and jumped to #17

2nd day for markets closing and still no PR from MS. Either their numbers aren't as good as they'd hoped or they are waiting for Sony to go first to upstage them.

Why would they do that? Sony always announces worldwide number so if Ms lets them go first they'll still look like fools.

It's worldwide vs. North America but we are also talking about old positive news vs. new positive news (with it all depending on who goes first); MS saving the news for after the PSX event could have people look at their news (and/or twist it) as a form of an "Xbox comeback".

MS doing it before the PSX event would look like a blatant defeat either way since the news at PSX would be more recent + the stats/news would be for worldwide.

So no PR, neither from MS nor from Sony. +1M sales for PS4/XB1 are probably not happening.

Console gaming doomed again.

Though I agree the longer it takes for an announcement to happen the less I believe each console sold.

Yeah, I'm thinking 889k for my XB1 prediction is too generous. I'm going for 805K for now but I have a feeling that XB1 actual sales will be even lower than that, in the 700s.

IIRC, it was PC Data that released the weekly charts. NPD purchased them, and ended the releases.

I rem MS flaunting the 360 numbers just a day or two after BF ended. No PR at this current time must mean the numbers didnt meet expectations.

I'm keeping hope for +1 million. Espically with the PS4 and that GTA bundle on BF.

Maybe MS are just waiting for PSX for any tyoe of announcement.
