If that's what he/she was referring to, Sony doesn't have to react to MS at all this gen. Good lord.

If that is the best Microsoft can do with such a drastic price cut + bundles + black Friday they are going to have a rough next year.

http://venturebeat.com/2014/12/11/u-s-hardware-and-software-sales-weaken-in-november/

"U.S. video game hardware and software sales weakened in November compared to a year earlier, as there wasn’t as much hype as there was when the PlayStation 4 and Xbox one launched a year ago.

Overall video game sales at U.S. retail stores were $2.41 billion, down 11 percent from a year earlier, according to market researcher NPD Group.

Overall hardware sales were $1.10 billion, down 23 percent from $1.31 billion a year ago. Hardware price cuts explain some of that, but those cuts did not inspire a new wave of demand to make up for the cuts.

Video game software sales were $1.06 billion, down 2 percent from $1.08 billion a year ago. Game accessories sold $331.2 million, up 2 percent from $326.2 million a year earlier. Total software sales (including consoles, portables, and PC) were $1.09 billion, down 1 percent from $1.1 billion a year earlier. Portable software and PC game sales rose, while console software dropped compared to a year ago.

The top-selling game of the month was Activision’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, with the lead platform being the Xbox 360. At No. 2 was Take-Two Interactive’s Grand Theft Auto V (PS4 lead platform), followed by Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Wii U, Electronic Arts’ Madden NFL 15, Nintendo’s Pokemon Alpha Sapphire for the 3DS, Ubisoft’s Far Cry 4, Pokemon Omega Rally for the 3DS, Take-Two’s NBA 2K15, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Unity, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection for the Xbox One.

“For the most part throughout 2014, we have seen software declines that were offset by year-over-year increases in hardware spending,” said Liam Callahan, analyst at NPD, in a statement. “This November, however, hardware declines totaled $294 million while software declined $17 million or 2 percent. Accessory sales increased by a modest $5 million.”

Year to date, software, hardware, and accessory sales are up 2 percent. Callahan said that hardware bundles were a major factor in sales of hardware this year. Cumulative Xbox One and PS4 sales to date are almost 80 percent higher than the combined total of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sales were 13 months after launch.

“We are committed to making Xbox the best place to play, with this year’s best games, the best community of gamers to play with, and terrific value,” said Mike Nichols, corporate vice president of Xbox marketing, in a statement. “And we are amazed by the excitement Xbox fans have shown to start off this holiday. November set a new record for sales of Xbox One, and Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S. and U.K.”

He added, “Response to the holiday lineup of games on Xbox One was incredible, with Xbox One fans buying more games in November in the U.S. than any other gen eight platform and enjoying over 357 million hours of gameplay globally. In fact, more fans logged into Xbox Live across Xbox One and Xbox 360, and enjoyed more entertainment, than any other month in the history of Xbox. We love to see the excitement from our fans and are grateful for their passion, support and contributions to the Xbox community.”"

$329 and two free AAA games for a 10k lead.

That is an expensive piece of PR.

Sony absolutely vindicated in their decision not to reduce prices for BF. There was clearly no need to panic.

yup. If true, this solidifies it. There is no way Xbox One is going to be number one this generation. Next generation starts the fight over again

First, I'd like to thank myself. Whilst everyone gave up hope, I continued to believe in the Age of One, and I spent every last ounce of energy I had in helping it grow across the world, and especially online. Through my efforts alone, and against all odds, it slowly built momentum. And with all that momentum, I threw it into the United States of America, in God's favourite country, with the force of a thousand suns.

Of course, no doubt that some of this credit is earned by the rest of the Xbox team at Microsoft, but their efforts were almost insignificant compared to mine. I'll be taking a break in this month of December with my promotional activities, so I can't guarantee the results when the report arrives next month, but I hope people will believe in what I say when I return. I have now shown what happens when you truly believe in the Age of One. Anything is possible. Xbox is Rocky.

There's no longer any reason to doubt. The Age of One is truly beginning. Some will try to claim otherwise, because we're still behind in the grand scheme of things or because we didn't outsell the competition by hundreds of thousands of units. But they're wrong. It means something. It means Xbox One is number one. And that's what really matters.

Number one, in the Age of One, is the All-in-One, Xbox One.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
I think those 7-10k were all the ones I saw in peoples baskets at Costco both times I had to go last month. I swear to god it was surreal more than half of the people with carts I saw there had one in it.

I think we should all wait for another source guys.

I like CBOAT, and I trust him, but my brain can't wrap around 10k diff. That would be an absolute fucking disaster. Just a spectacular failure.

I don't think we should be jumping the gun just yet.

CBOAT out of the blue, locked and loaded!

If it's true, Sony should have that in their PR. It would take a lot of wind out of the XB1 wins November headlines.

If it's only a 10k difference, when it comes to numbers by attrition, Sony had just as good a month as MS, and made way more money in the process.

Surprised CoD sold better on XB1.

That CoD 360 number is also interesting, as it's easy to forget sometimes that a lot of people haven't made a 'new gen' jump yet.

- Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has sold nearly 710,000.
- Sales of amiibo are approximately equal to sales of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

amiibo sold really well! And this is just the beginning!

Sony sold 12,000 from those 20th editions. Dadgum, MS. You just need to give the system away and introduce the first ever F2P console. Then you'll win by a huge margin.

Yea, I'm borderline ashamed for doubting Sony's pricing strategy for the holidays.

PS4 is truly a beast :/

I'm with Bish on this one, 7-10k difference where? overall? us? uk?

Details man, especially when you crash a thread like this...

My NPD prediction depends on it!

Basically what should have been expected. The PS4 has had the momentum all year, so it's not surprising that some price drops wouldn't make this a blowout

Also it shows the people yelling Sony should drop the price were completely wrong.

Given the size of the market etc. etc. even with NPD's massive coverage... this probably amounts to a statistical tie?

Not sure how big the error bars are since NPD does get their data from a lot of really accurate sources, but yeah, this is practically a tie.
