I love you guys

Uhhh no it didnt? Do you know how to count? How is this a Pyrrhic victory? Stop trying to use words when you dont know what they mean.

It's a Pyrrhic victory in the sense that they had to fund games, slash prices, and strike other deals which costs $$$.

Change that to "sales in release month" and it looks a lot better. Very important to pay attention to the release date.

Word from connected people is that the first two weeks of November was what won it for Xbone. PS4 nearly caught up thanks to BF and GTA bundles. Exciting stuff!

I'm a bit surprised Sony pretty much ignored the first half of the month. Wouldn't have cost them that much to bundle TLoU and maybe one other first party game with PS4 to at least arrest the Xbox lead in those first weeks.

Wow, I was expecting ~100k dif in xbones favor, if it's 10k that's barely worth the effort.
I've expected a ~200k difference.
Man... wow. Sony made some money with over 1 million PS4 sold for $399

Well..

~ 1 million gap - 10k = ~1 million gap.

The gap lives.

I think this means Sony will take December NPD.
PSX will help boost awareness. By then, Microsoft's price cut will not be news.
So the gap between PS4 and the Xbox One is still ~1.1 million.

The Xbox One: where selling well isn't good enough.

The fact is that the PS4 is selling like freaking crazy. Calling the Xbox One's 800k~ sales in November "sad" is extreme, I'll say.

People want a game, and games have winners and losers. Can't understand that both companies are winning.

This is really calling into question how much of a "sealed deal" it was for Xbox One to win December. I thought for certain with their firesale pricing they would frankly out price the PS4 into oblivion. Xbox One (refurb) + Kinect +4 games for $330.....

Now I honestly wonder if it mattered largely at all. Parents are actually listening to their children about what console they want?

Interesting turn of events.

People forget that MS can afford to build themselves a few new arms and legs in case the *battle* should cost them that.

They also have a CEO that actively thinks the division and brand is a complete waste of resources. Why build a new arm when they're likely to amputate it in a few years anyway?

And they got sales out of it? You know that MS is worth billions and is not in any financial danger at all and the Xbox brand is healthy.

What are you talking about.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I read through the Nintendo PR quickly, but Nintendo mention that Amiibo sales are comparable to Super Smash Wii U (710k) - so there we have it, an approximation.

Amiibo is at approximately 700k - damn good.

December is Sony's. PSX, no more $329, and those musings state that PS4 was already catching up once the first few weeks past.

I'm completely shocked.

Uhh, that's what it is.
When someone says "first month", they don't mean "first 30 days", the mean the first month it came out (release month).

That 90% was for software only, whereas the 10% is hardware.

I think a post earlier in the 7k-10k shuffle says the 10% puts the Wii U at Just shy of 250k for the month.

MK8 had a bigger effect, I think.

Well isn't that really some sad "proof" that Nintendo has tapped it's market with the Wii U? That most of the people who wanted it was just waiting for Kart or Smash? :(

I'm Hoping Zelda sells gangbusters and makes people buy the cute little console.

Don't worry. They can drop another 29 to take December by 3k units

you are funny. :D

I always knew you had a horse in this race. There's no doubt in my mind you work in retail but ever since that little stint with Explosive --> Excellent ---> very good, it became obvious to me you look at at the numbers from a skewed perspective.

The irony of this post is PS4 / PC are my main platforms.

I just like to see consoles sell well and yes was heavily cheering for MS to have a fantastic November. I want to see both have big success ensuring high quality 3rd party support on both.

Dragon Age :(

Don't worry, I supported this amazing game as did most of my friends. Too bad it didn't do better, I hope it has longer legs and this doesn't hurt the future of the series.

Stop saying this. It literally doesnt make sense.

$500 w/ Kinect to $350 without Kinect in a year, sometimes lower that, with value-added bundles.

They martyred their original value proposition on the altar of Black Friday just to fucking TIE.

They're not winning this generation.

Now we know why there was no pre-emptive boasting from MS. They can NOT be happy with this result...

They were probably outsold in the second half of the month.
Their advantage was built in the first two weeks with neither deals nor new releases for PS4.

Btw I hope that Dragon Age sales were still decent although being below MCC that is a single platform game doesn't seem promising for a multiplatform cross platform release....

I can't believe that it just barely beat the ps4. The deals on the console were ridiculous. I purchased one with 3 free games for $330.

Question: I wonder if NPD counts the refurbs that MS sold?

This cements the need for at least a $299 standalone Xbone for MS in 2015 if they're still serious about keeping pace in the US.

I don't think Microsoft is worried about their sales in relation to Sony's (within reason) as much as they're worried about their sales in general. These results basically tell Microsoft that their issue up till this point has been more price point than perception, which I'm sure is relieving.

If MS won the first 2 weeks of November, then Sony had to really turn it around on Black Friday.

That would make the anecdotal evidence and Black Friday Retail Musings pretty hilarious. Cause if the gap was less than 10k, the anecdotal evidence was slightly, well, off and/or Sony really kicked ass in online sales.

The future question is:

By dropping the price and adding so much extra software has Microsoft damaged the value of the XBox One for 2015 if they truly do choose to increase the price back to $400, or even keep it at $350 without a game bundled?

I expect a big PR announcement in January "WELL GUYS BECAUSE WE'RE SO GENEROUS AND BECAUSE WE LOVE THE FANS WE WILL BE KEEPING THE PRICE OF THE XBOX ONE AT $349.99" and try to make it seem like a big deal.

Just imagine
7-10k this November....and the next 10k November 2015!
The come back is real - Its all about the holidays!

Jesus if true Sony really has this Gen in their pockets.
They really didn't need pricecuts or anything for the whole of November in the USA
You can't sell more than everything you have.
