NPD Sales Results for November 2014 [Up3: NPD Data Error, AC:U #5]

Is the Dreamcast still tracking ahead of the Wii U at this point? Someone in the other thread said it was even after DC was discontinued. If so that'd be incredibly sad for Nintendo.

Awkwardly humbling for the OG Sega fanboy still in me tho xD

Not sure, but in the same period of its life, Gamecube sold 754k for November, over 200% more than WiiU.

Zelda is the equivalent of Killzone.

The King and Queen have already walked through these halls. He's just the unwanted step-child following in the darkness.

True. Mario Kart + Smash. It will not get any better than that for the WiiU. May not purchase it now because I am sure a new Nintendo home console will release by 2016. Hopefully it is backwards compatible so I can play their WiiU gems.

CBoaT's post totally makes me feel better about what I was seeing.

There was virtually no clear winner on our end. Stores were all over the place. Huge Sony shipments that didn't sell as 'fast', but sold like a goddamn truck, just constantly pushing numbers after the XB1 bundles emptied out.

So, yeah. 7-10k difference matches completely with how close of a game I figured it'd be.

i remember you posting this at the time ... how are the sales looking in December?

losing Lots Of money while doing so,explain that to share holders.
The point of the crazy deals was to sell a lot of consoles. They sold a lot of consoles. I doubt their shareholder care much about the loss, software has always been where the money is made. How many years was it that Sony sold the PS3 at a significant loss?

lmfao at those wiiu hardware numbers. can they even reach gc numbers at this rate?

Lol it would have to be lucky to hit 15 million.

7-10k dif

Wouldn't this be within NPD's margin of error? If sales for both consoles are ~1.3million (we know it's higher than Xbone December '13) that means NPD's margin of error must be smaller than 0.07% for a gap of 10k to be meaningful.

Considering NPD need to estimate sales of some of NA's largest retailers (Walmart, Costco, K-Mart, Sam's Club) I don't see this being the case.

Edit: yes they do track, I'm an idiot. So maybe it is meaningful.

I'm assuming the amount they invested in DAI vs DA2 is way more though. Maybe no more dargon age in the future if it doesn't have legs :(.

Probably, but they paid for it with reduced enthusiasm for the series.

I just checked on the sales of Origins on consoles in its debut month and it's almost exactly the same as Inquisition. Rather fitting that they'd be back where they started with the game that attempts to right the ship, as it were.

Nintendo is just really fucking good at being profitable. It's ridiculously impressive. That said, I think they do have to go with the fusion console or a super cheap complementary console if they want to stick around in the console market. I'm hoping they avoid the gimmick nonsense on their next one.

I doubt they go with something outlandish like the Wii was back in 2006. That was just lightning in a bottle.

HD Graphics <<<<------>>>> Price

Oh, where to go?

NPD directly tracks all of those retailers.

What are people thoughts on Amiibo sales until now?

I don't think they are too hot, but again is just extra revenue for Nintendo, so I guess it dosn't really matter.

I actually think moving 700k of those in a month is a great result. It's surprising to me that Amiibo did that well. The figures aren't great, Nintendo's IPs aren't as hot as they once were, and they don't do much in-game.

Only in the world of zero logic. A game can fail to make the top 10 in both November and December, yet move 800-1M units in the US in those months. I'm pretty sure it happened during the height of the Wii. The top 10 cut off in holiday months is really high. In the spring and summer, top 10 often means sub-100k sales.

Actual sales numbers are what matter. It's not like Dragon Age was a blockbuster series previously. If sales are over 400k (given how poorly received the previous title was) that would be a decent start going into December (which should lead to a good hold)

My point is there are still at least 10 other games that sold more than it in November. For a title of that magnitude, that is terrible.

""Cumulative PS4 & Xbox One sales are now almost 80 percent higher than the combined total of PS3 and Xbox 360 sales after 13 months.."

Dang. And people say console gaming is dead.

Oh and lol, 240k from Wii u with its biggest game of the entire gen AND black Friday. Bomba

Don't they just hide Xbox earnings reports behind "Computing and Gaming Hardware" (i.e. Surface)? Because the surface is actually selling pretty well if I'm up to date. As it should, it's a high quality desktop replacement.

Yea, that's what I was referring to.

Xbox won't be going anywhere because I have yet to hear about any legit investor complaining about the thing.

They never even bring it up during those investor calls/reports.

Amazon says so far so good.

Amazon has been 11/11 so far.

Nintendo should learn from what MS did and take the Wii u and price it at $200 w/o tablet gamepad and $300 w/gamepadgamepad.

Seeking it for $300-$350 is terrible when XBO sells for $350 and PS4 is 400.

Imagine if he was referring to a game... Fun times ahead then.

Why do people keep saying things like this? I just came home from Walmart where they had the 399$ GTA5 bundle with a 50$ gift card.

I don't know why people seem convinced the PS4 deals are over but you are wrong.

Not to mention the digital game bundles that have hit stores this December, too.

LOL no. If MarioKart 8 and Smash can't shift systems. Nothing will. No one is interesting in the WiiU or Nintendo's IP's.

How this flaming hyperbole is not considered trolling is beyond me. Sigh.

Anyway...Wii U will probably top at 13 million units, since Nintendo´s next home console and handheld will probably release at the same year (late 2016-early 2017 probably).

And yet Nintendo's IPs are amongst the best selling games year after year.

Explain.

They have a considerable loyal fanbase, not big enough to make their systems a total success in the industry, but big enough to make their software top charts?

(And I feel their IP's still retain some of that "casual" appeal for past years)

Xbox can still have good sales pacing with the following.

They need to:
1. Slim the console down significantly and
2. Try to cut price by manufacturing efficiencies on slimmer version to $329/$299

Of course this is not taking into account any PS4 changes/price drops. Xbox has can't move any further in terms of price. I imagine perceived value is lower than it should be. But that's no ones fault other than MSFTs.

I don't think they're going to invest in the R&D for a slimmer console while providing a pricecut of that slimmer console, too.

I could, however, see them releasing a slim at the current price and dropping the OG price. I'm sure they have tons of stock to move anyway.

Why we are all sure December belongs to Sony? PS4 is now back again to 400$ without any bundles available while MS is keeping up with their BF prices more or less.

They won the first 2 weeks of November when they had the price cut and Sony didn't offer any deals, only when Sony also offered a good deal in BF they destroyed MS again, now in December we're again in the same situation - no deal by Sony while MS offers great deals- they should win December as well.

Sony have the free game promotion offering either Destiny, Far Cry 4, NBA 2K15, or Little Big Planet 3 when you purchase a console.

You guys act like that "narrow win" actually a lost?
A win is a win! No mater it's win by 1 unit or more. MS prove that Xbox one can sell as much as the market leader at certain price, that most important take away.
The market doesn't abandon the product like vita, it get third almost all third party titles support, console power show little effect.
It's a full recover from disaster PR and DRM gate.
Console race just started, Xbox one have a bright future ahead.

Let me tell you this story.

Once upon a time, in another life where I wasn't the leader of Xbox, I was a high school gym teacher. And then there was this competition between my class and a class from another high school. I put forward my star student who was able to do the most amount of reps on a bench press. In the end, the opponent did 45 reps, before he exhausted himself. My student had only ever maxed out at 40 in the past.

But that day, I told little Jimmy that he's doing to do 46. Because 46 means he's going to win. And that's all that matters. Little Jimmy didn't have to 60 reps or 90 reps, he just had to do 46 reps.

And that's what he did. Little Jimmy went home with the gold that day.

Fact is, a win is a win. It may have taken everything, every ounce of energy, every drop of sweat, every drop of blood that the Xbox One has, but it did it. At least it wasn't like The Rock at Wrestlemania 17. He just gave up after 20 chair shots.
You beautiful person, you. :)

You are overestimating.

This is Wii U's third Christmas, and the console hasn't even surpassed Sega Saturn yet.

Wow...that really shows how dead that console is.

Makes me shocked that Nintendo is still even bothering with it in 2015. I would have just moved on already to a new console and hope for the best. This generation of people care a lot more about power on there hardware device (ala stupid stuff like grass gate). Maybe it's time for Nintendo to finally a powerful console?

Wonder what would happen if late next year or mid year after they release a new console that's more powerful than PS4 and XONE.

You should start it, because you of all people will find that many things in the game aren't so much of an amazing improvement.

Still worth playing, though.

Ah, makes it sound like one of those interestingly flawed products that is more controversial than people let on. I love experiencing those >:D

I've always tried to be optimistic about Wii U that things will turn around for the console once Smash and MK8 were out. And now that they are and after getting this results... I think is not even going to come close to that number :'( I... I have something in my eye, brb.

I was trying to be optimistic with 17 or 18.... I know we're lucky to hit 13 million at this rate :(

I am always amazed by your resilience. You get some major things wrong,(Ps3, FF13, Xbone destroying Ps4 this month) and you still post with confidence.

I have to admit, I admire you, sir.

It's all perspective. And also if you knew my intent. FFXIII comment was made not specifically because of FFXIII, but because of what it symbolized - it was the last major third party exclusive Sony had and it represented the end of a long sad journey of losing all those types of exclusives. That was also a key reason Sony was able to maintain such huge leads over the competition.

It was partially the inevitable result of skyrocketing development costs as well, but the hyperbole - which was partially wrong, but also partially exaggeration for effect - is not actually meant the way people often interpret it.

Also, I still maintain PS3 was a huge failure. Even by the end of the gen, and notwithstanding it had a good game library by the end, it still had wiped out all of Sony's game profits made through PS1, PSP and PS2. That is severe by any measure. :p
