Anyone want to buy a Rift DK1 or DK2 locally?

I'll sell either at my cost. DK1 is very lightly used. DK2 was hooked up for 10 minutes. I just don't have the time to use either right now, and I'm funding a recent Macbook Pro purchase.

DK1:
$400

DK2:
$520 (got charged brokerage)

Holt Renfrew is closing their Sparks Street store (along with their Quebec store) in January. Not surprised, that location seemed to be an afterthought compared to the Holt Renfrew stores in other big cities.

And with that, Sparks Street is even deader than it was before. Not sure what it's gonna take to revitalize that street, it has so much potential.

That was intense. I couldn't see anything out my window, and my power went out, and my phone stopped working.

On the bright side, I had a new roof installed this morning, and they were off my roof before the storm hit. I'm thinking that would've been bad.

I highly second the Cedars recommendation. Also go to House of TARG @ Sunnyside + Bank. At the end of the Otrain is a good shitty mall to get Games (Futureshop/Walmart), Food (Loblaws/Bulkbarn), office supplies (Staples), and a so-so movie theater. Your better catching double bills at Mayfair @ bank/Sunnyside

The double bills are mostly gone, unfortunately. I went to Die Hard 1 and 2 a few months ago but they're pretty infrequent.

I'm pretty easy to get out of the house, so count me interested. What sort of venues are people itching to hit up?

Likewise. Name the time and place. There is RibFest going on right now, so that's a thought. Otherwise, I am good with whatever.

Does anyone know anywhere where they sell German chocolate cakes in Ottawa?

Anyone check out the outlet mall this morning?

The lineups were really long and there's insane traffic on the 417 because of it(it took some people 1 1/2 hours to get there). The thirst for shopping in Ottawa is real.

Definitely staying the fuck away this weekend, some people are a tad bit too crazy about shopping(though I heard the prices are actually decent and inline with American outlet malls).

sorry for the late reply but I got one from here awhile ago

Edit: Also German Chocolate cakes for the WIN

Thanks! It's a bit out of the way, but German chocolate cakes are so worth it :D

I can vouch for Rideau Bakery cakes. When I lived in town, it was very near my apartment and I got a few cakes there. Tasted great.

Just a little heads up that the NAC (National arts centre) is selling tickets for VideoGames Live

the event is all the way in March (the 8th) but I am just letting you know if any of you are interested

Holy crap - a soldier was just shot at the War Memorial, and apparently there's a gunman in the Centre Block on Parliament Hill. Be safe everyone downtown!

Do you guys remember that horrible bus crash from last year?

Well this just happened to a bus on route 72, which was the route that replaced route 76 from the crash last year:

That bus is under the crossing gate, just a couple meters away from the train :/

Did anyone get the GameCube controller adapter for Wii U? I looked at multiple stores and none of them had them, they all only got 2-4 and sold out immediately. EBgames only ordered enough for preorders.

I just bought a Hori pad. They connect to the wiimote and can be used as a classic controller as well.

I went to Escape Manor Ottawa recently. Pretty fun, everyone I went with liked it, and my friend who's been to ten of these in Toronto said this one compared very favourably to the others. Anyone else here tried it?

For those who are wondering what this is, you're basically locked in a room for 45 minutes and have to solve a series of puzzles to escape.

I've heard a lot of good things about this place, would love to gather friends/family one day and pay the place a visit.

I wasn't even aware they were bringing these to Ottawa. That's pretty nice.

I'm excited to try this. I was thinking I'll probably wait until after flu season ends...

With Stump gone and me being back in town, guess it falls back to me to organize meetups again. I was thinking we could try to get one in sometime in the next few weeks before it gets too cold and before us students start back at school on the 12th of Jan.

Maybe the 9th, 10th or 11th?

Just let me know what's good for you guys and I'll get this together ASAP so everyone can plan their lives accordingly!

I could come out any day but the 10th or the 11th would be better.

Hey Ottawa Gaf, I'm in town for a week next week. What's some good stuff to check out? I'll be staying near Parliament.

Food-wise, I'd recommend The Black Tomato, Chez Lucien, the Side Door, or Murray Street in the Byward Market area or if you're willing to go downtown then the Whalesbone, El Camino, The Manx, Scone Witch, Union 613. For a truly Ottawan experience, Shawarma Palace is just east of Byward. Corazon de Maiz. If you have a car I'd recommend getting Suzy Q donuts in Hintonburg.

Full marks for your taste in taste. Stumpokapow knows whats up.

It's cold as fuck this time of year so outdoor sightseeing is an exercise in misery, but all of these are within walking or very short driving distance of Parliament:
- Parliament / the Peace Tower
- The Supreme Court building
- The Byward Market
- Skating on the Rideau Canal (you can also walk it)
- The Rideau Canal locks
- The War Memorial / Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
- The Mint
- Sparks Street Mall (note: there's nothing on Sparks Street, but it's nice to walk down)
- The National Gallery of Canada (under renovation)
- Crossing the bridge to the Quebec side, the Museum of CivilizationThe Stephen Harper Canadian Museum of History and War and also 1812

There are also a metric ton of embassies near parliament. You can't access most of them, but they're nice to look at.

Get the baked Brie at Black Tomato, it's awesome. Stay away from the burgers.

Chez Lucien had good burgers, and better fries.
