My Little Pony FiM Community [OT3] Surely You Saw This Coming

Wish we saw more than just clips from (presumably) the season opener. This did nothing to make me excited for another
the girls must fix themselves
story.

I think this is just the way it will be with Megan and Hasbro... Hasbro probably has a new set of toys all ready for the finale.

It was pretty difficult seeing HUELEN's post at work and then not being able to see the trailer until now. That said, there's little in the trailer that we didn't already know about, but it's still nice to see new footage, including of the old library.

EDIT: Oh hey, looks like the trailer showed our villain, or at least someone who appears to be a figurehead. Linked due to spoilers.

Those are some prominent eyebrows. Come to think of it, this would be the first time we ever get a regular-looking pony for a season bookend villain, if she is the villain. It's been pointed out that her color scheme, including her hair colors, are the same as Aria Blaze in Rainbow Rocks, but I doubt there's a connection.

Oh, good spot!

There's porn of her 6 hours after the trailer came out; just a fun fact ._.

Bunch of stuff I'm interested in highlighting:

Equestria Girls: Friendship Games doll art shows Twilight and Brad together with matching phones. Not posting image because blargh. I actually do hope Dougworld Twilight ends up with Brad, if only because that means they won't try to hook him up with pony Twilight anymore.

Holy crap, a bunch of new show-accurate toys, including the Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000! One image below, others at link.
Friendship%2Bis%2BMagic%2BCollection%2BCider%2BSet.JPG
The separate hats look terrible on the ponies, though.

Toddler-focused Playskool toys revealed, and they certainly look a lot better than the G3 baby ponies; I suppose their heads aren't all that different, from what I recall, but the lack of diapers certainly helps.

The Diamond Select Pinkie Pie bank has been revealed, and I'm not really a fan.

Brief interview with the director of the German dub. It sucks that the fans have been giving them grief, but I suppose it makes sense that they would with voices for certain characters changing every season and such; hopefully knowledge of their working conditions will get people to let up.

At the London Toy Fair, there appeared to be an image of the new season 5 character as an alicorn, but Jim Miller clarified that it wasn't the same character, and it was later confirmed that the character was actually an OC. It's pretty surprising that someone would be lazy, search online for ponies, and use OC artwork when preparing Hasbro's booth at what I presume to be such a major event, and that no one would notice the problem.

And in lighter dub news, the Latin American Spanish dub voice for Pinkie Pie does a cover of "Smile".

Why would you actually want Brad to be paired off with Sunset? I'm reminded of how in harem anime and manga a girl is considered to be "winning" when she pairs up with the loser lead, despite him being a loser.

Anyway, Friendship Games has officially been announced for 2015. Apparently we're getting shorts for this too, though that's not mentioned in this article.
Looks like Applejack and Rarity have been left out of official art again, which looks as garish as usual. Given that we don't know who the right three character are, I'm guessing they are part of Twilight-as-antagonist's team.

And this is weird. The 100th episode will be based on Cutie Mark Magic, not a season bookend. Wasn't it mentioned before that this episode would focus on background ponies? Not sure what's going on. EDIT: It may just be the case that the slide is generally covering things noteworthy about season 5, so Cutie Mark Magic and the 100th episode could be separate, which makes more sense.
Still bleh looking, just taking the worst aspect of the Rainbow Power designs.

And while it's not a surprise, it's reassuring to know that the movie will be getting a decent amount of investment. P&L just means profit and loss, meaning that's when the product either makes them money or drains them.

That looks like a general s5 teaser image. I think people are looking too much I to it being a description of episode 100.

Absolutely agree.

As far as Brad and Twighlight goes, I can't wait to see the dolls; might be the first time we can get one of the girls without the Anthro ears.

The promo art is sensory overload as usual, but as with the original and RR I'll give it a look. The shorts were fun last time, so that's cool too.

I can deal with this, I guess. It's subtle at least, and the fact that the characters don't look to be overflowing with magical power suggests that the attached story might be something less bombastic this time.

Interesting to note that Hasbro still can't get their character models right, with Twilight rocking her old crown.

I... don't hate this...

I have no idea how the production team are packing this many different character models into a single movie.

I was more referring to a specific scene than expressing a specific desire.

At the start of EG2, Sunset Shimmer is in the music room happily listening to the Rainboom's song, then Brad comes in and he's tripping over himself wondering if anyone has heard any news about Twilight. And Sunset's facial expression is... complicated (as seen above). Then Rarity comments on how adorable it is that Brad's in love with Twilight, and Sunset looks down at the floor, suddenly crushed. Rarity immediately apologizes, saying she forgot to consider Sunset's feelings (this happens A LOT in EG2), but Sunset brushes it aside, saying it's okay, because there were never any feelings between her and Brad. It's an obvious lie, but the movie lets it slide as if it were the truth.

Then Pony Twilight shows up and sheds some tears because under-the-influence Brad is being mean to her (completely out of character for Brad, so the magical influence must be blamed), but when Sunset Shimmer appears to do something mean and spiteful, Brad is right there to cheerfully proclaim "The REAL Sunset Shimmer is back! Now there's the girl we love to hate!" IMO, that had ten times as much kick as Twilight's tears. The magical influence on Brad can't quite so clearly be blamed for his reaction. Sunset lied to Brad and hurt him (while under the influence). Her entire seduction of him happened while she was under the influence. Brad doesn't believe in her redemption (nobody at the school does except the Rainbooms), and his guard is up. He's just waiting for her to fall back into her bad habits. But then, here's a twisted idea... does Brad like Sunset more when she's evil? He initially fell for her when she was evil, and he used the words "love to hate" to describe her. If she wants to get an emotional reaction out of Brad, any emotional reaction, is she going to have to fall off the wagon for real?

The Twilight/Brad shipping is currently weak and plenty of people hate it, but the Sunset/Brad shipping has depth and is interesting. If Brad ships with Dougworld Twilight, that might be a great thing, if only to provide fuel for Sunset's character. I can't say at this point if it really matters if Brad and Sunset end up together (I think my preference would be for Sunset to eventually move back to Equestria), but the idea that Brad and Dougworld Twilight might end up together should at least draw an odd look from Sunset.

I... don't hate this...
I like that they finally included a horn. Unicorns get shafted in Equestria Girls.

I have no idea how the production team are packing this many different character models into a single movie.
I was just thinking the other day that those two EG2 shorts which were Jem-inspired music videos didn't really fit with EG2, until I realized that the opening of EG2 is actually a third Jem-inspired music video (with a new artstyle). All of the EG2 shorts completely fit EG2.

Nothing too interesting that we didn't already see in the previous trailer, except confirmation that the one who looked like a villain is a villain. And that whoever is editing these trailers really loves cutting together dumb fake conversions.

Yeah, I could've done without those.

Anyway, some neat bits:

Cushions for hard, crystal/stone thrones? Good thinking.

Those pancakes look good. Love the measuring spoon gag, too.

Not happy.

The Mane 6 with some new friends?

Fluttershy cutest at sitting confirmed.

they're all terrifying. the only one not terrifying is maybe Fluttershy.

"You demanded horse people, we gave you horse people" - Hasbro

Funko Rainbow Dash variants with weird colors coming

Funko also revealed Spike and Shining Armor figures, with the latter looking better than the former. Also, Octavia and Lyra for those who forgot they were coming.

Cute Japanese comic with English text, which references the Reflections comics. First panel:

And finally...

Twilight: gurglegurgle jesus christ how did this happen
Looks like during that Friends Forever issue where Twilight tried to help Pinkie with her snack addiction, she snuck off and got more behind her back. Dash doesn't look quote as chubby.

EDIT: Oh hey, it seems whoever took the Spike and Shining Armor Funko picture just needed to move the camera to the right a bit. Cadence also confirmed!

Bunch of pictures here, including more Apple Family stuff that I posted earlier, and a lot of Friendship Games stuff.

And high fashion MLP clothing coming, whatever that entails. No pictures were allowed for the reveal.

Tour of the Toy Fair booth reveals additional details, including plot details for Friendship Games.
* The antagonists are Crystal Prep school, which always wins the Friendship Games.
* A major focus of the movie is the romance between Twilight and Brad. Or at least the presenter plays it up a lot. Ugh, I really really hope this is referring to Dougworld Twilight.
* The art posted earlier of human Twilight with giant wings, "Midnight Sparkle", appears at the end of the movie.

Also, Coco Pommel is already getting a brushable toy, albeit one that has too-long hair and doesn't have her normal outfit. EDIT: Oh wait, it does come with her normal outfit, it's just on the ground next to her.

And lastly, toys are coming with scannable sections that allow you to get stuff online.

Director's panel at PonyCon has a bunch of concept art for season 5! Not embedding due to spoilers, but they can all be found in good sizes in ED's post. The post notes that the directors didn't know the air date for the season, but I imagine we'll learn it in the panel that has the trailer. EDIT: Apparently they are one and the same, so forget what I said.

Spoiler picture 1
Oh hey, it's Katie Cook and Andy Price's OCs! The two furthest to the left that aren't Rainbow Dash. All of the nametags make me think it's a tour group, perhaps tied into the next picture? There are some interesting designs, although the unicorn in the top right whose design is based on Fleur de Lis looks a bit off.

Spoiler picture 2
It looks like we're revisiting Cloudsdale's weather factory.

Spoiler picture 3
Mountain path, not much to read into here.

Spoiler image 4
Oh hey, it looks like we'll see more of those monsters from the horrifying cave in "Pinkie Apple Pie". That could be fun.

Spoiler image 5
A mysterious wagon. It doesn't look like it would belong to a character we know.

Spoiler image 6
This is an interesting design. And is that a mushroom for a cutie mark? I wonder if we'll end up seeing the hippie ponies from the comics. In fact, is she actually from the comics? EDIT: She isn't in the Rarity micro-series issue, so I suppose not. By the way, that comic is still good.

Spoiler image 7
Given that the second image seemed to be showing the cloud machine going out of control (unless clouds inside the actual factory is normal), I imagine this outfit ties into it. Now, would this just be a one-off gag like the hazmat suits in "The Cutie Pox"?

Apparently it was to have been one of the trailers leaked last week.

Oh wow, bummer for the people who attended the con.

As for the spoiler images,
yay Cloudsdale! Been way too long since we've seen that place.
Liking some of the
character models too, especially Andy and Katie and the dreadlocked one.

I can't believe we're spoilering a character sheet with some reference images and a few background images...

A character sheet that has some faces that someone might want to be pleasantly surprised by when that episode airs, and background images that give a pretty good idea about one of the settings. I'd say those are worth hiding.

Anyway, it is really odd that we have new trailers yet still no start date or even month, with not even the crew of the show being in the loop. I can't help but wonder if there is something going on; perhaps a shift over to another network like with the upcoming Transformers series?

I'm sure that Hasbro is talking to other networks. Discovery pushed Hasbro off into the ratings wasteland, and I don't know if they have some sort of deal where Discovery is still paying top dollar for Hasbro's top shows, regardless of ratings (I doubt it), but low ratings are never a good thing.

Unfortunately, Cartoon Network didn't give Transformers a very good time slot. It's got 6:30 AM on Saturday mornings (too early). Apparently that's previously been a "fallback" position for various Transformers shows on CN after they've failed to keep the ratings high during primetime. It's a better timeslot than Discovery was offering (anytime from 9AM to 3PM, while all the kids are in school), and Transformers probably has potential to climb to better timeslots once it proves itself to CN, but it suggests that Hasbro's shows are going to have to fight to get those prime timeslots that The Hub was offering.
