That's exactly the opposite to my view. I prefer threads containing intelligent conversation and discussion rather than pages of Pinocchio pics, triumphant crowing, or reaction gifs - but each to their own, glad you're enjoying it.

Occupation: Work @ Microsoft - nothing to do with gaming - but opinions may be unintentionally biased. 3.

It's a laugh. Lighten up.

He clearly only meant US/UK market because in the rest of the world Xbone gets more than beaten by a nose long, it gets slaughtered. Just check the PAL and Media Crates threads. And I really can't see how this could ever change. Maybe with Minecraft 2 exclusive for Xbone?

Funny you say that since you work for Microsoft.

Legit criticism - but am I defending Ms or Ed Fries? No. You'll have to take me at my word that I'd have replied the same to that poster were it the other way around, or not involving ms at all. Post history is there for all to see, and employer is in my bio so that I can't be accused of hiding it.

Fair. You've always seemed to try and be a levelheaded poster. But it's worth noting the list of the people aggrieved by the reaction to this silly comment is pretty much you, the guy who works for MS, and a handful of drive-by juniors.

Thanks dude, nice of you to say so - people probably don't realise how really damned hard it is to work for ms (and presumably Sony, ninty, any gaming company) and post here. You have to be extra careful what you say and how you say it, because you're going to be more harshly judged than most posters. Which is fair enough, but really tough when you're just a guy who likes games and happens to be a software developer in a company that employs 50,000 other developers but also has a gaming arm.

I was kind of ignoring this thread (for the reasons in my post on the previous page), but seeing that guy saying it was thread of the year just made me a bit incredulous. Yeah the idea of the first Pinocchio pic was really funny but 15 pages later there's not been an awful lot that would - IMO - make this worthy of "thread of the year". Hence my reply :)

On topic to the op: Yeah I think EdF is being optimistic, diplomatic or both if he thinks that by the end of the gen it'll be "by a nose"... (god, that biased Ms employee view hah)

Dude yeah he's being diplomatic and not burning bridges . I mean what "real discussion" can you expect off this topic ? If a thread said ar vs vr can hololens make ms win the gen vs Morpheus yes we have a topic to discuss . This has already turned into a "fun" memes thread . And for the record I like ms and a lot they do but their pr/messaging dept is just plain horrible at times. Walking into a thread where ppl are just having fun and say wow I expect "real convos" is silly :p

It's childish, grow up.

Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?

Lighten up, dude. I saw your comment about your post history, and you may well have a point. It's entirely possible that 99.9% of your posts are perfectly reasonable, but jumping on the defense force whenever people are having a bit of lighthearted fun tends to stick in one's memory more than the average post. Especially when it's public knowledge that you happen to work for Microsoft. Don't get me wrong, you've probably earned a bit of respect for owning up to it, but it does make those defensive posts stick out even more.

Maybe it's a good idea to leave it up to the mods? They always seem pretty on the ball whenever someone gets out of hand.

It should be Ken Kutaragi instead of Kaz. Ken was in power when Ed Fries was launching Xbox, which was utterly destroyed by PS2.

Kaz was around when PS2 destroyed Xbox and I think gave the great presentation at E3 of that fact. And Ed talking about sales of PS4 which Ken has no input on, so I felt it more relevant to have those two in than Ken. Ken was a legend so I could add him as the cat but it might lose its charm a little :D.

I don't think it's that far-fetched.

Things are never set in stone, I agree with him, there's still a lot that can change over the course of the generation especially with new emergent technology such as AR and VR and with Microsoft's Windows 10 platform as a universal app platform, assuming those are going to play a big factor in Xbox One.

On the other hand, PS4 also has VR with Morpheus and Sony is also doing R&D in AR (not related to PlayStation though).

I just mean that there's a lot of factors that can change the trends over the course of a generation (a couple of years, ~5 years)

so AR is the new secret sauce now?

Possibly. But it isn't something that's designed specifically for XB1.

I mean, if HoloLens becomes a huge success and has great XB1 integration, it could be a factor that has an influence on XB1 sales/popularity and that can contribute to changing the trends, or diminish the trend of PS4's sales advantage.

And again, it is not even necessarily only applicable to XB1. Sony has been doing R&D in AR for a long time as well and were one of the first companies to develop a see-through display. http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20080523/152287/ Of course this isn't really PlayStation related, but they might make a HoloLens-like device that has some kind of PS4 connectivity/integration as well.

And of course there's also the Morpheus VR HMD for PS4 (and hopefully PC compatibility as well).

If people baulked at the price of the XB1, what makes you think they'll jump on a headset that'll cost more than the console?
