hearing the "inside the episode" at the end with the showrunners makes me feel like the audience knows the story better than they do sometimes.

one of the Ds says "when people watch Daenerys's scene, hopefully there will be people who can decide for themselves whether what she did was justice or insane etc"

but everyone should be saying what she did was insane. The 100% most sensible thing to do would be to take the Tarlys prisoner. Not burn them alive.

unless I'm wrong and people think it's a better idea to just kill more people after a battle.

They made it clear they weren't going to serve her. And Cersei wouldn't fret for a second about losing them, so they have no value as prisoners. She gave them a choice and they made their choice. They died a quick death.

It wasn't the easiest decision, but it's by no means indefensible.

I refuse to believe Arya is going to get outmaneuvered by fucking Littlefinger.

Also, god, Sansa. I was really starting to like you, too.

Sansa hasn't really done anything bad yet, she's just not so good at leading. Jon and Robb were both pretty lousy at leading for a while too, Jon just got a second life to try again. As for Arya - Littlefinger is a master manipulator, Arya is just an assassin. She's never played at politics before, Littlefinger would be able to play her like a fiddle. Wildcard is Bran, who better have her back.

Great 'slow' episode overall, seems to have been another 2ish months of time during that episode (was kinda neat to have Sam mention its been years since he let Bran through). Callout to Gendry still rowing made me laugh, Operation Fetch a Wight has one hell of a crew.

The reveal that Jon is a legit trueborn Targaeryn is huuuuge. He's definitely riding a dragon by series end, and then carrying Dany into the bedroom. Lineage means he's rightful heir to Iron Throne, he's already go the North at his back, and if/when Dany finds out they basically have an instant full on alliance.

My one, huge, giant issue with this episode is the opening - no fucking way Bronn was dragging Jaime's heavily armored ass out of the water. I still think they should have been captured, but even being annoyed at how they played that out I'm willing to live with it.

I wonder how fast Cersei will give birth given that each of these episodes are minimum one month timeframes at this point.

This episode had a lot of good shit.

- Stark & Baratheon team up v2.0 (this was cheesy but I still loved every second of it)
- Gendry still rowing joke
- Jaime is completely gone
- The damn dream team heading out north
- Jon the dragon whisperer
- Just casually dropping that knowledge about Jon being a true born targ

And then we have LIttlefinger pulling some crap on Arya. I have no patience for littlefinger anymore. But his lying ass is gonna make it all the way until the end of next season, just gonna keep handing idiot balls to the Starks until the final credits.

Jon has Valerian Sword.

Baric has a fucking D&D Flametongue +9 vs. Undead.

Gendry has a fucking World of Warcraft Doomhammer.

--it's like a supped-up Chaotic Neutral D&D group. All hate each other, but all have the same goal - kicking White Walker ass!

I thought if Gendry was brought back that it wouldn't be all that important but the way they did it was so great. Him just going up to Jon and telling him he's Gendry and reuniting the Starks and Baratheons is so badass.

Oh, and he uses a big ass hammer like Robert. Fuck me.

There was a lot of information to process in this episode.

The return of Gendry! And that savage burn about Jon not measuring up to Ned! lol

Cersei's sudden pregnancy sure is a convenient way to ensure Jaime's loyalty just as it's beginning to waver! I think she lying.

Littlefinger's pulling some shit. Sansa v. Arya battle incoming. Arya's stealth skills got nerfed hard in this episode! :(

Oh no doubt. She's pulling out all the stops to make sure Jamie doesn't leave her.

The main problem is she keeps saying "I'm different". But she's just doing what Cersei would do. The easy thing to do is to kill people and rule with fear.
Cersei currently has a woman prisoner in a cell watching her daughter starve to death. Cersei is on another level.

It's not that black and white but killing them with fire seemed excessive.
it's just in response to how the showrunners talked about it.
They made it clear they weren't going to serve her. And Cersei wouldn't fret for a second about losing them, so they have no value as prisoners. She gave them a choice and they made their choice. They died a quick death.

It wasn't the easiest decision, but it's by no means indefensible.
fuck that choice! cersei would probably have done the same thing!

why not just take them prisoner?!

are you metaphorically saying that somehow even though the other Tarly didn't know about the murder of his brother and father, his spirit of becoming a maester was "broken"
and won't get his chains?
so you agree then that the showrunners sound kinda nuts if they expect people to be divided about whether Dany was right or wrong?

that was the main point of what I was trying to say...I've been losing respect for them lately

I think people want Dany to be a protagonist, we want to root for her. At least I do. And I would love it if she actually followed through on her shit. "I'm different". No, your fucking not.

So because of this I'm gonna disagree with the showrunners. People don't want to see Dany become Cersei or her father. They want to see her as the Queen she describes herself as.

Everyone's gonna think that shit was crazy. Or atleast 90-10.

I like the fact that most important plot point of the entire series ( Jon being the rightful heir to the throne) was just a throwaway line from the weakest plotline of this season.
GoT still knows how to play with it's audience.

This is the only episode that felt rushed, anyone else think that?
it was almost jarring

There is enough plot there that they could have stretched it to a season 9

This is an instance where I separate real world vs. fiction world. While in the real world it would make sense to take the two heads of the family prisoner and otherwise would violate humanitarian laws. In the GoT world though it has rarely paid off to play nice and let your enemies live crossing your fingers and hoping for the best. She already got the army to kneel, shes trying to establish she isn't fucking around and Tarly made it clear he had no respect for her and didn't recognize her as a legitimate heir to the throne. Leaving backstabbers running around in the GoT world is bad for anyones health.

Error

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
Hiding the fact that Jon is a trueborn Targaryan (and thus has a better claim to the Iron Throne than Dany) in a scene that they knew everyone would tune out cuz duck the Sam plot this season....

Also that team is fanfic as fuck
It played a lot like that Attack On Titan reveal the way it was casually revealed and dropped out of nowhere.

Sansa literally didn't even do anything. Besides, Jon had their parents room given specifically to Sansa so I don't why Arya is being an asshole about it.

Certainly not! She merely has a woman in a prisoner cell who was forced to watch her daughter die of poison and is now forced to watch her body rot. Completely different.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
Arya: "Not if they lose their heads first!"

God damn! And for some reason, I fucking started clapping after she said it lol.

That episode played out like some really bad fan fiction.

I'm not sure why Dany would agree to a truce. It offers no benefit to her plans and more than likely will harm her.

I'm not buying Dany doing it all because of Jon's speech. And let's say she's falling in love with him; it would still be out of character for her to put her personal feelings in front of her goal.

THAT preview looks legit insane.

I just don't see how any of them can survive this.
I don't even see how Jon would other than plot armor

Throwing a guess out here.

Same way that Dany will lose one of her dragons, I bet.

Dany flies after the Dream Team with the dragons to save them all, which results in the Walkers killing one of the dragons and adding it to the Legion. Since Qyburn's bow didn't kill Drogon last week, it makes sense that something else will do one of Dany's dragons in before this season is over.

It's the letter that Cersei had Sansa send to Robb after Robert died to try to convince him to bend the knee. Littlefinger made sure Arya saw him with it and planted it so she'd find it and it would serve to sew animosity between the sisters.

You are almost certainly right. It fits very well. But... it seems to be a really flimsy thing and obviously Sansa wrote it while a prisoner in King's Landing. Then again, Arya is very stupid.

Even GRRM said every character is morally grey, so I agree with them, leave it up to the viewer to make that decision themselves.

Think of how many people in this thread have put up defense for Cersei's actions before. Evil to a lot of people, but some see why she did it, for her family, which might not be so evil after all...right?

Truthfully though, I think it might be because we're yet to find out. I think it was wrong, but, I also think it NEEDED to be done.

yeah, I agree with everything you're saying. as far as storytelling goes, I understand why they wrote Dany to do it I guess, she's a dragon and she's doing what dragons do, so...i really hope that some ice (Jon) cools her down. And I'm not just saying that as a Jon x Dany pusher I'm just saying that yes she keeps saying she's different well she needs to listen to Jon more now.

They're the last two Targaryens so they need balance out on controlling themselves and their power. "A Targaryen, alone in the world...it's a terrible thing."

So, if that's the last we see of Jon and Dany together this season then this season loses points for Jon not bringing up Maester Aemon to Dany.
