Loved Niji pulling the "Mr. Prince maneuver" there. Guess Sanji still retained some Germa 66 ideas even after leaving.

amazing chapter. katakuri easily my favourite of the new world characters.
His fighting style with the trident was really interesting too, it kinda felt like gear 4, but instead he's twisting his arm instead of bring it back.

With Luffy struggling this badly, Gear 4 will help him but it's likely he'll be stuck in the mirror world helpless against the rest of Big Mom's crew once the fight is over unless someone like Sanji shows up to rescue him right as the fight is ending. I wonder how many more arcs we'll go before Luffy tries to learn "Awakening"? Oda could have Luffy "stumbling" onto it like he did Haki in the middle of a battle like this one, but so far Oda has been having Luffy train off panel for the majority of his abilities.

Oda is smart to not use the other commanders, yet. Let's not forget, that we will very likely get another confrontation with Big Mom, when the Straw Hats reach Elbaf. So Oda gives us just a small taste of the other commanders, which will be explored later in the series, and make us hungry for more.

I have the feeling Gear 4th won't be enough for this guy. It wasn't for Doflamingo (when Luffy needed to stall for time), and Katakuri is way more savage.



And the slugs were taken out by the fishmen, right?

Gear 4 was destroying Don .
Gear 4 problem is not the speed or power but the time limit .
So luffy got find some way to make his plan in that time.

It's harder because the Commanders are able to take on Gear 4 if Cracker is too go by at least the normal one and Katakuri can see the future

Though I love him saying luffy's dodging "Is stressing me out"

I think the name is key, "awakening" sounds like something that will need to happen when something pushes him over a certain threshold. It doesn't seem like the controlled haki which mostly needs to be learned.

Nah that just mean luffy is fast enough \good enough to dodge his attack sometimes.
Don't forget even with CoO if your opponent at certain level they can out do you .
Which why it's stressing him out since it's seem people don't normally last this long vs him.

I loooved that panel. Katakuri is so scary and a pretty bad dude, but then you get stuff like him protecting his siblings, "stop embarrassing me", and "this is stressful" lol

I'm gonna be bummed out when Luffy eventually murders him via canabalism

Has the stuff about the territory snails or whatever they're called not operating been explained? I feel like there may have been a throwaway line earlier that the fishman pirates did it to aid in their escape but I may have imagined that

The assumption is that they did which makes total sense I don’t think it’s been outright said or revealed yet tho

Also I spot a couple of ministers in that pile germa beat up so there’s that at least

Also strawhats got tamago completely shook and katakuri is getting stressed out lol go strawhats go

More off screen fights. Apparently, if you aren't Luffy, you don't deserve detailed fights in this manga anymore.

Everything was just setup to the encounter on Cacao Island. Pretty meh.

Yeah I don't see that happening lol. Especially since two chapters in a row now he's said something about not wanting Luffy to attack his brothers and sisters.

Also what a odd thing to say when 5 not strawhats got a detailed fight two arcs ago,

Luffy's best fights without question are the ones where he fights an opponent with a similar fighting style that completely outclasses him. Luffy vs Rob Lucci is still peak One Piece for fights (and I doubt this fight will change that) but I'm eager to see it try!

Other characters have gotten detailed fights this arc. Sanji v. Judge, Pedro v. Tamago. Like, do we really need to see Germa take some irrelevant fodder? The hype is still perfectly conveyed by seeing them atop their bodies, as well as the apparent fact that they took down 10,000 people. Not to say that I don't ever understand the off-screen complaints, but it can certainly be helpful in saving time. As the amount of characters continues to increase, Oda has to be wiser about who he gives a full-fledged fight.

It would been so villain move, but Luffy could try to attack Katakuri's family to get an opening on him.
But it would also be a dirty trick a pirate would use. So it would fit Luffy.

I pretty much like him better than most antagonists in OP, all I need now is a damn good fight. Been good so far, but once again, next week is the real battle.... Hopefully.

Well Luffy is no hero, so who knows...

That said, Brulee seems to be the only one around atm, and she's actually being smart here by hiding inside her mirrors.

This has the potential to be better than the Lucci fight.

I hope we get more info on awakened fruits next chapter. There's no way Rayleigh didn't tell Luffy about that on those 2 years.

I don't really consider any of the fights of the past arc (I count Zou as the same arc as this one, so I'm talking about Doflamingo) good examples of fight anymore. They always feel rushed to the ending, unless it's a Luffy fight.

Zoro fight with Pica was, what, 3, 4 pages and the the double spread with him cutting the guy? Really lame. Same with Senor Pink vs Franky.

It feels like Oda don't develop the fights anymore and just want to get them to the point. And fights were the reason I always liked One Piece. Seeing them being rushed in one chapter is pretty bad, but I understand that he wants to end his manga.

Sanji vs Judge, Pedro vs Tamago, all of them suffer from what I'm saying. After the time skip, he just makes the fights more and more less detailed, more to the point.
