No Man's Sky coming to Xbox One

Full price for this is laughable and a slap in the face. The game is what, 2 years old?

its not full price and how is it a slap in the face when it's never been available to xbox users.

i'm thinking you're looking for fault in a great game without any reasoning.

I Platinum'd the game prior to any content updates, if that's any indication of how I felt about it.

Not the best game, but definitely a unique unpolished gem in a world of Minecraft clones.

I think the game is, broadly, underrated as a Minecraft esque game, too.

While at release it was both marketed and received primarily for its exploration, with its pathfinding and foundations updates adding base building, improved economies and trade, and better survival/permadeath, it's evolved into that sort of that sandbox trinity: equal parts survive-explore-prosper.

To be sure, its exploration is what sets it apart from other survive-prosper games and is in large part what makes both its survival and prospering intriguing, for many players the foundation of the gameplay motivation comes from that attempt to survive and prosper enough that you've built a home base and eventually a fleet of ships, freighters, mines, and farms.

I posted about it on the previous page but I put about about 200 hours into permadeath (first time trying the game a bit under a year after it release) and by and large I never even traveled farther than 30-40 planets away from my initial starting planet... I stayed in the same neighbourhood the entire time, exploring every nook and cranny of my 'home', becoming familiar even with NPC names or knowing planet biomes and species just by planet name, and creating established trade routes and having favorite planets for certain resources, selling or buying certain trade goods or resources, and so forth. After searching dozens and dozens, eventually I built a mining base on the perfect desert planet. It was, the the most part, an experience that was like permadeath Minecraft-in-space, a bit less building but still a lot of 'prosper' (farms and freighters, especially) and certainly better survival (permadeath mode really changes NMS for the better) and exploration (pathfinding updates helped create attachment tremendously).

A great game? To each their own I guess. There's plenty to be found in terms of fault with this game. I will admit I was mistaken with the "full price" thing but still gamestop has it for $49.99 while PS4 has it for $19.99 So are they charging 30 dollars for the NEXT part of this? How is this justified? A 2 year old game that over-promised and under-delivered to the point that Sony had to create a refund policy where there previous was none specifically for this game. False advertising was obvious...and after all this...here's a question for you.

Since this is such a fantastic game, given all that has happened, are you gonna buy it day one? Or are you going to wait to find out if Shawn Murray is pulling another fast one?

I don't care who the heck it's been available to or not. That's beside the point. To summarize
#1. Game is old
#2. Game was bad
#3. Game was falsely advertised
#4. Game has only recently improved to the point to where it is passable
#5. WHEN HAVE WE EVER SEEN AN EXPANSION ON AN INDIE GAME COST $30 DOLLARS?

/End argument

Man, it amaze me that people are still raging about this game. The launch wasn't great and I'm not a big fan but you know they put a lot of work in to it and it a lot better than it was. Although it still a bit too grindy

Sell half a game for full price at launch, sell a full game for half price later...

Great business strategy...

now these two things are exciting...
Unlimited Base Building

  • Bases can now be built anywhere on any planet.
  • Dramatically increased base building complexity and size limits.
  • Hundreds of new base parts.
  • Own multiple bases.
Command Freighters

  • Assemble and upgrade a fleet of frigates and command them from the bridge of your freighter.
  • Send your fleet out to into the universe, or deploy them to help you as you explore a specific system.
  • Improved freighter base building allows a truly custom capital ship.
  • Invite your friends aboard and take on challenging multiplayer missions from the Galactic Commision Station on your bridge.

#1 check the vid, it's anything but old.
#2 game was and still is fantastic.
#3 was it.
#4 game has always been great and gets better with each update.
#5 game has never been on X, so "complete edition", not expansion.

/no argument, just your wrong point of view.

Would not be surprised if this goes to gamepass
seems like the sort of game that would judging by similar releases

Game is very underrated though...dont think its a full price title though

Well, I'll be playing this on Xbox since Blizzard just royally screwed WoW in one patch today.

Edit: Think the 'One Tamriel' patch on ESO and you'll know what Blizzard just did, in their own terrible way.

So this is basically Sea of Thieves in space? Thanks, but I'll pass.
It's really nothing like SoT. For one, it actually has content. For two, it can be enjoyed as a solo experience. For three, there is progression. For four, it has exploration. I could go on and on, but really point one is all I needed to say. NMS has more content in it's tutorial than all of SoT.

It's so frustrating when people just parrot an old narrative. They don't even realise how silly they look because they're supported by even more silly people.

Complete edition/Expansion who cares what you call it? It's 50 bucks on Xbox, Vs. 20 on PS4. What is the difference? Only that the game never released on Xbox before, so this warrants a difference of $30 dollars on a game that's 2 years old? Is there any additional content that you can get on Xbox that's not on PS4? No?

My point is this. If you have 2 people who have never played it before, one PS4 gamer, one Xbox gamer and they both decide to buy this for the first time, PS4 gets everything for 19.99. Xbox gets that same content for $49.99. Um...what?

Check this out. Ashley actually lists everything that was promised an completely not in the game. So yes, it was falsely advertised. The fact that you can't admit this is staggering.

How can it be a complete edition when they never charged for the updates on PS4?

So it's fine for them to charge for the updates on Xbox One but if a person wants to buy it on PS4 now they get a free pass? That's simply...BS.
its not rocket science.
never been on xbox, so in effect.... its never had any updates and i'll assume that the free updates on PS4 are because of the bad feedback from those not happy with the original great game.

and as you consider the game so bad, why worry about getting it for any price, never mind for cheap.

you just need to realise that the game has always been great and is now coming to another console for yet more players to experience its great gameplay.

Wonder why you can't pre-order this digitally yet
I was wondering the same. Looks like it should be coming??

That's your opinion, if you like the game, fantastic. I didn't like it. That doesn't make either of us right or wrong. That's the thing with opinions.

Where you are wrong is failing to realize that opinions by their very nature cannot be wrong unless they are based on false information, in which case, any level headed person may be swayed in their opinion based on new, factual information. My opinion is based on playing it for about 30 hours. I also never played any of the updates. The game I played, in my opinion, was garbage and did not deliver a lot of what was promised.

Unless you have a fundamental dislike for the gameplay loop (which I'm guessing you likely don't since you bought it), you really should revisit it. The past updates already made the game amazing IMO, and the NEXT update looks to bring it very close to what everyone online appears to have been wanting at launch.

Your opinion isn't wrong, it's just not relevent. Most of us in this thread are here to talk about our excitement for the game, and the handful of people coming in here shitting on the game when they have no intention of trying the update adds no value. This thread is for discussing the update, and not for faux outrage and misplaced hatred. We get it, you think the game is trash, how many times do you plan on letting us know?

Yeah it's not on Amazon or Xbox store yet (for purchase), I've been looking for it too. Even the entry on the Xbox store was somewhat hidden for a while. They're probably just being extra careful with this release due to all the hubub around the game.

Me? I'll be enjoying some 4k/HDR space action this summer. I have Elite Dangerous also on Xbox and I've been holding off on it until NMS came out on Xbox so I can go full Space adventure mode for a while.

I'm really looking forward to this update. Haven't played since release and it seems like it's finally a resemblance of what we were promised to begin with.

Not an opinion, simple facts that are worth repeating.

Oh and it's now up for pre-order on X for a reasonable £40 UK.

Actually, that's not true. They always intended to continue adding content. As Sean himself said, there are people who grew up on Minecraft and perhaps want a more mature experience [paraphrasing of course].

New info coming in. We now have buried treasure to find and weekly updates:

To that end, it's implementing something akin to a live events programme, in which players can work to achieve certain community goals in order to earn a second currency that can be spent in a new in-game rewards shop. This currency - and Hello is keen to stress that this is all free, and that there will be no micro-transactions - can be used to purchase the likes of emotes, customisation parts, and eventually unique ships and vehicles.

Additionally, your freighter is where you'll encounter the new frigate system. This wasn't a feature I saw myself during my playtime, but is described as something like Monster Hunter's Palico system. You can buy frigates - up to 50 in a fleet, which will be visible around your freighter - and each can have its own specialisations. Frigates are sent on procedurally generated missions which play out in real-time, and can be followed across the galaxy or simply left to complete their mission, reaping the rewards of a successful adventure.

NEXT's additions go much further though: building has received a major overhaul, with a greater focus on construction using individual pieces (floors, walls ceilings, etc.) to make more elaborate, more distinct rooms and layouts - and I was especially taken with the way room pieces now automatically carve out the landscape, meaning it's easy to build cosy planetary bases underground, straight into the rock.

This currency - and Hello is keen to stress that this is all free, and that there will be no micro-transactions - can be used to purchase the likes of emotes, customisation parts, and eventually unique ships and vehicles.

That's still not all though; this will be joined by a new Galaxy map system, enabling players to scrutinise No Man's Sky from afar. It's a way of highlighting just how much of a living, changing space it is, thanks in large part to the tireless efforts of the game's remarkably engaged community. It will show the likes of galactic hubs and just how far afield the surroundings systems have been explored, as well as player discoveries, and even community-provided points of interest

Perhaps more than anything though, it's the newfound sense of scale that impresses, with the game now sporting a more "earth-like" planetary generation system. Mountains tower above undulating valleys, populated by looming trees, larger architectural "props", and notably improved fauna. Creatures feature more nuanced animations, improved AI, and a broader range of sounds, all of which help sell the illusion of life just that little bit harder.

Are you suggesting that it's wrong to voice my own opinion simply because it isn't taking a popular stance? That seems...hivemindish...if that's even a word. Does debate and different views ruin your experience on a forum? You must be absolutely miserable at this point because debate is how a forum thrives.

What does relevancy have to do with it? Did the OP say "Detractors steer clear, this is your only warning"? I'm voicing my own experience and frustration over the experience I had with the game. I am willing to give the game a second chance and will only rebuy if my friends on Xbox buy it too. They were all on the fence so I said I'd try it on my PS4 and give impressions. I'm not shytting on the game as it is now. That would be stupid, I haven't played since 3 weeks after its launch.

Let me introduce you to the "Switch Tax"...

Y'know... Where they charge you new price for old games from other consoles.

It's pure insanity. I don't believe it's ever been this bad before though. Other examples I can think of is Rise of the Tomb Raider. I know Xbox had like a year exclusivity or something, but I don't remember the game being priced so differently when it eventually came to PS4. Plus didn't PS4 get additional content included that Xbox had to pay for? I could be wrong on that, don't quote me. This just seems...wrong man.

It's only this way because we, as gamers, allow it.

Judging by some of the commentors (not specifically in this thread, but in general), some people will jizz in their pants for the opportunity.

It's sad and pathetic, but welcome to 2018... :poop:

So has anybody played the update yet. I have a few friends that bought it and I'm thinking of jumping in with them tonight. Dat $50 though. I'm just really torn on this. Does it live up to what people had hoped?

It's not already out for Xbox One? News to me.

And, if folks just wait and don't buy games the second they're on the shelves, then none of these pricing headaches will be an issue. Believe it or not, they're still the same game if you wait.

I know, how foolish of me to preach patience in 2018...
