Oh god now they’re duct taping PS4s together.



Look at the chiplets they have 9 CUs per stack which goes perfect with PS4 18 CUs if it's 2 layers , now add 512MB memory chips to the top of each CU stack & that's 18GBs of GDDR5

Edit: 16 CUs but 9 squares between them

I have reasons to believe that PS5 is really 4 PS4 GPU chiplets & really will have GDDR5 memory at a really high bandwidth because the chips will be stacked on the GPU CU's

Wouldn't putting more PS4's GPU together increase the power consumption and temperatures?

nevermind, brain ignored "GPU" before "chiplets". Still doubt it though even if it allowed Zen CPUs, with rumblings that Sony had input into Navi.

No because it could be clocked a lot higher or the chiplets could also have other co-processors on them


but if this is actually 4 PS4 GPU size chiplets it would be 72 CUs


72 x 64 x 2 x ( whatever clock rate lets say 1,400 Mhz ) = 12.90 TFLOPs

Honestly nothing what you said seems possible.

1. GDDR5 is not stack-able. Period. Neither is GDDR6. Neither you can integrate them on interposer. Only way you can stack and get it on interposer is via HBM. It is also impossible at least for now for GDDR6 ot even reach something like 800GB/s let alone GDDR5. It would require gigantic bus work. Recently released 2080 and 2080Ti PCBs show exactly how much space take GDDR6 wiring.

2. While i have same theory that it will have chiplet gpu, 4 dies for gpu alone is definitely out of question At best you will be looking at 1 I/O die, 1 CPU die and either 1 GPU die or 3 GPU dies. The wild idea of mine here is that they will make 3 gpu dies but only 1 die will be for a actuall gpu work, 1 for physics accelerator and 1 for something else like ray tracing.

4 die combo seems the most probable. 1 I/O die, 1 CPU die, 1 GPU die and either 2nd gpu die or fixed function die for something like physics accelerator/raytracing etc.

The GDDR5 wouldn't be stacked on each other they would be connected to the Chiplets

Imo the design is fake. Because it looks like an edited version of a ps4 lol. Never did sony consoles looked any kind of similar.

I honestly don't think the PS5 is using an APU. If Sony is aiming for a $499 price point, I think they will use a discrete GPU. Especially since they want to continue with V.R.

How about PS5 being an APU with two Ryzen 3000 or better 7nm++ Cpu cores and two Navi cores......They could use the threadripper die-space, which will be smaller on 7nm++ anyway....

In essence.....two 8 core chiplets (16 core Ryzen) + two 40CU Navi GPU cores.....

So on either side of the IO, you can have two chips.....The entire die space may be slightly larger than this on 7nm++
 
considering there are no leaks yet. its very safe to say its not coming this year 100%. anyway that should have been obvious.

i think every rumor so far was sort of made up. none of them add up to others
 
I still think the RuthenicCookie rumours are possible.

i think its gonna come out early next year. at least i hope

i hate holiday launches. always hated them. because the library of games is always stale. nobody wants to launch damn games the same year on a new platform. so you get garbage like knack.

I hope its an early launch. and by the time the fall comes around we get better titles due to better install base.

Wow, four PS4s all duct taped together (nice that they're not going the Apple route and soldering it all together - means we can add our own).

So, with that new info, the PS5's specs will be:

6.4Ghz CPU
7.36T GPU
32GB RAM
2TB HDD
8 USB 3.0 ports
4 HDMI ports
4 Blu Ray drives
8K resolution

That's a beast, for sure. Not even PC Master Race machines come close to that. And the 4 Blu Ray drives is a really smart move. There will probably be more games next gen like RDR2 where you have to swap discs during install (Hello?! Are we going back to the Amiga days of "Insert disk 4 ..."???). We'd be able to put all of the discs in the drives and let them install simultaneous and at the same time. Maybe even multiple games! Imagine installing Spider-Man 2, God of War Revenge, Horizon: One Dawn, and Not Actually The Last of Us Anymore all at once?! Excellent!

The 4 HDMI ports will allow the most hardcore to connect up additional TVs and monitors, as well as capture software (Sony will probably go hard into the social stuff for the YouTube screamers*).

Now, nothing's been said about the controller, but if we follow the same route then we can at least expect a 8,000mAh battery, which should keep a lot of people happy. The light on the front will be a bit bright, though. Hope they allow us to turn it down. However, since the PS5 might have 8 USB ports, it could be that Sony are just allowing us to charge multiple controllers at the same time, so the battery life will remain the same as the DS4.

Christmas 2020 is my bet but I won’t be getting one until late 2021.

I think Sony will not even announce PS5 in 2019.

Doing something once x 100mln times is less expensive than doing something 8x100mln.
Unlike in PS4/XboxOne design era AMD have now interposer.

It makes 0 sense to make discrete ram for SOC when you can integrate ram on chip.
Integrating ram on SOC also means CPU who uses it has much lower latency cost.
While HBM2 might be expensive now it should relatively quickly lower price once it gets into popular market.
100mln consoles later HBM shouldn't even cost more than something like GDDR6.

What you say is complete opposite. If they would make discrete GPU and CPU then console would cost MORE not less than SOC.
Whole point of SOC is to minimize cost. Instead of creating essentially two modules you create one. With chiplet design it is even more important because not only you don't create two separate modules but also you don't create one big monolithic die which is costly but instead few small dies and tie them together on interposer.

Why on Earth would Sony do that?
Cut the generation one year earlier when they clearly are killing it? Why waste one year of hardware and software sales just for the sake of releasing a new console?
There are still exclusives to release, prices to be cut, preparations to be made...
I can't imagine they saying: "Oh look, the PS4 is still going strong and we're almost at 100 million so lets just kill it."

I expect them to have their own conference to reveal and announce the PS5 releases date.

So why would they not be at E3 at all then? Or do you think they'd announce the PS5 after E3 like in August and then release it in October of this year?

Then there's the memory setup and modules, from the looks of it Samsung isn't there just yet and Micron/Hynix isn't an option I think (pricing + supply).

Why you think if PS5 realeases in 2019 they'll kill PS4, does PS4 killed PS3 or PS3 killed PS2 that happened? the benefits for releasing PS5 this year:
  1. First to start next-gen big advantage over competitors
  2. Releasing before 2020 summer olympics great advertisement for the system
  3. Price advantage over competitors because of older system

The rush is, Microsoft is going to get out in front of them if they don't release a PS5. If one new console launches first by a significant amount of time, they are going to be at a big advantage. Playstation can continue to capitalize on the PS4 by making sure PS5 plays PS4 games. Just release the PS5, sell the PS4 for $150, and continue to release games that can play on both for a little while (similar to how the same game can play on a PS4 and PS4 pro). Some graphics heavy games that can only play on PS5 will only come out on PS5 to entice people to buy the new hardware. This strategy lets the highly successful PS4 have a longer tail, while allowing people ready to move on to the PS5 move on.

The rush is, Microsoft is going to get out in front of them if they don't release a PS5.
I think an announcement will come in 2019, but not the release itself.
Initially thought PSX (first time reveal in history with fans), but those fans might be too loud when you want very word to be heard loud and clear.
To me it matters not either way as I haven't game on PC or consoles for maybe 2 years now, but as preference I'd like for them to have the stronger console.

I have a gut feeling that Sony will pull a 'PlayStation 2' here, and announce PS5 in H2 this year (maybe even Q2), and release the new system in H1 2020. There are still some core titles such as Last of Us 2 left for 2019, and Sony won't cannibalize itself by being too early. But they want to be early, hence the H1 release.

Still, though, we could be 18 months from the release, that is quite a long time. Plenty of time to reap the sales from the games releasing this year.

Not the HW no, people that want a PS4 now won't be going for a PS5. PS3 SW sales probably took a hit when PS4 came out but now that PS5 will 100% likely be backwards compatible, those SW sales might not take a hit.

Maybe minor impact would be appreciable for PS4 in HW sales but nothing major, avarage consumer doesn't think or care about PS5 all he cares is price, we're neogafers are not avarage consumers we're minority of PS userbase, and software would't have any impact, because new released games will be available on PS5 also, until PS4 can't keep up with PS5 in gfx but that's after couple years of PS5 realease.

But Sony was at E3 the year the PS4 was released. This year they aren't going to be at E3. Did you forget it's 2019 right now?

Why would Sony "NOT" want to show the games more than once? If the PS5 was coming out this year, why would they want nobody at E3 that covers games to talk about it? Are you guy even thinking about any of this or are yall hung over from last night's drinking session?
