Typical food from your country.

Thanks to a conversation with Papa Papa and Mista Mista (who was scammed in a tourist restaurant in Spain). I had the idea to post here typical food from your countries.

I know that there will be a lot of burgers among typical foods over the world, so just post an original burger from your city or something similar.

Well. As a good fellow spaniard I will start with a couple of typical food from here.

TORTILLA DE PATATA

Visiting England?

You start your day with a fry up, all the trimmings, no messing about, no flaking out on the black pudding. Fried bread an acceptable additional/replacement for toast. Winners eat their mushrooms.

letterbox_resizeimage593x426xA6SozL86Xx.jpg

After you've demolished your full English and necked a few cups of tea, you go about your business until it's time for lunch. And of course, it's a chippy lunch. Battered cod, good thick chips, some gravy, mushy peas, salt, vinegar, maybe some tartar sauce, maybe a steak and kidney pie, maybe even curry sauce if you're feeling spicy.

fishbox-fish-chips.jpg

By now it's quite obviously time to hit the pub, if you haven't already, so knock back a few ales and a couple of crafty fags (cigarettes in England if you're feeling triggered), have a go on the quizzy and then order up the pub staple: the Sunday roast. Is it actually Sunday? Who gives a shit! It's Sunday somewhere, probably! Beef is the primary choice though others are available if you're a bit of a fanny about that. Spuds, carrot, swede, peas, maybe brocolli, maybe parsnips and sprouts if you're feeling festive. But let's not forget the key ingredients: a fatty Yorkshire pudding and lashings of thick gravy.

Sunday-roast-beef-dinner-with-Yorkshire-puddings-vegetables-and-gravy.jpg

One full belly later and you're ready for a few more pints. Before you know it, it's 3am and you're stumbling home, arm in arm with your best chum, probably singing some shit Brit pop anthem. You're bloated, sick, skint, you stink, but you've had a cracker. The above diet will probably give you a heart attack by 30, but you can rest easy knowing it was all worth it.

I would love to eat a fry up every single day, but time, money and my weight get in the way. More often than not it's just toast. :messenger_sad_relieved:

Tatertot hotdish is pretty much a staple here in Minnesota. Along with variations of cooked walleye, bass, steaks and burgers, especially one of the GOAT burgers:

Juicy Lucy.

Looks delicious, I'd eat that all the time. When I visited Spain I had tortilla española every morning.

Ahhh, the Juicy Lucy. 33% chance it's raw near the middle, 33% chance of burning your tongue on molten hot cheese. Worth it.

Some that I like from here in Chile

We also have empanadas:
empanada-chilena-ok.jpg

Can be fried or baked. Usually with a meat filling but you can also get them with various cheese fillings (just cheese, ham and cheese, prawns and cheese, etc) or my favourite one which is with seafood

Pastel de Choclo
pastel-de-choclo.jpg

Which is basically a "corn pie" (with meat and chicken)

Paila Marina: (fun side note, this is what Gus Fring was cooking when Walter White went to his house)
paila%20marina.jpg

Which is basically a seafood soup/stew/thing

And if you come down south (in both Chile and Argentina) you can get Cordero al palo (Lamb on a stick) which is god tier:
cordero1.jpg

And more on the sandwich side we have the Churrasco Italiano
dia-churrasco.jpg

Which uses thin cut meat instead of a hamburger, tomatoes, mashed avocado and lots of (hopefully self made) mayonnaise

Exactly, i from Mexico.

Lol so is Patata xD... well i will say Tortilla de patata .:messenger_grinning_sweat:

Breakfast can be many things, cheese (cream or halloumi), honey, jam, shakshooka (scrambled eggs with fried onion & tomato), fol (beans with garlic, onion, cumin & other Arab spices), pies with cream & honey or lamb mince, fresh bread, plenty of tea. There's more, can't remember the other choices.

Traditionally you'd have a barrel buried (plenty in Saudi). You wait for the logs of wood to go grey, put in a massive pot of seasoned rice with a whole lamb covered in spices hanging above it. Two hours later serve it like in the pic accompanied with salad, boiled eggs, fresh hot sauce, laban. Can be done with goat, camel or chicken as well.

The more traditional stuff we'll delve into later.

Kentucky here and I think the only things we are known for is the Hot Brown which is an open faced turkey sandwich and the Mint Julep which is the official drink of the Kentucky Derby.

The capital of Trinidad is Port of Spain so very very possible handed down!

Pholourie is fried dough that is made from flour , ground up channa (chick peas) and seasoned .Recipes differ but normally will have geera (roasted ground cummin) and saffron . The tambrind sauce is a sweet and sour kind of thing that is sometimes a bit spicy. Pholourie and doubles are considered street food , which are snacks you get from curb side vendors or little shops around the place.

As it get closer summer here in Brooklyn the musical artist from the caribbean start coming here as the parties or "fetes" start ramping up for Labor Day , you will come out of these parties at like 4-5 AM and there will be people with big pots and tables full of food like this and believe me coming out of a party at that time normally kinda tipsy or just straight drunk and have a hot plate of homemade food just waiting for you (for a price of course) with your friends is one of the greatest things I've experienced

Also forgot another favorite is Corn soup!

Austrian food is basically what everyone thinks German food is. The Austrians do it so much better though.

Ćevapi or ćevapčići is a grilled dish of minced meat, a type of kebab, found traditionally in the countries of southeastern Europe.
o.jpg

Sarma is a dish of vine, cabbage, monk's rhubarb or chard leaves rolled around a filling usually based on a combination of grains, like bulgur or rice, and minced meat. It is found in the cuisines of the former Ottoman Empire from the Middle East to Southeastern Europe.
Sarma-or-Cabbage-Rolls.jpg

Burek is a specialty of Bosnian cuisine taken from the Turkish cuisine (but, Tur. bend). It is a pie made of finely chopped or minced meat that is mixed with onion and spices and rolled into thin stretched layer of dough.

Its a dumpling.
Especially if the meat has a tasy souce you can soak it up with it.
Its made from egg, crused white-bread which soaked in water, flour and some spices; its then mixed together and rolled, then boiled in water or wrapped in a towel and steamed over water.

These are much different than the ones in the UK i can tell you.
If you ever find yourself in Austria, be sure to try Schweinsbraten, and make sure it says “Semmelknödel” or “Serviettenknödel” in the food description so you can try these dumplings.
