Devil May Cry 5 |OT| Gimme Dat Vergil

I'm still at work for another 2-3 hours, FML.

Stay strong, my man

I have just finished my first mission with V, on PS4 Pro. It looks awesome with HDR and all the stuff. Love everything about the game so far (the second boss is a true highlight). Just a minor complaint: It is TOO EASY. Nero is wildly overpowered and V is even stronger. I died once by being extremely sloppy and careless with a boss. It seems to me that the game is introducing you to the mechanics for later difficulty levels, very hard or DMD. Too many yellow stones as well.

So far its my favourite game of the year, though I was already hyped for it, being a DMC fanboy.

Just made it to mission 9

I am really enjoying it so far! Tho i feel like the difficulty is a little too easy. Picked devil hunter, was there a harder option?

Finished it. Overall it was quite good.
Going to post a few pros and cons below, not sure if spoilery so be careful:

Pros:
- combat is the most advanced and refined in any game out there (Bayonetta, Gaiden, etc)
- graphics and presentation
- good length
- good number of enemies and bosses

Meh:
- samey and forgettable environments, few interesting set pieces
- story is serviceable, but you don't really care about beating most bosses, for example
- majority of the game feels like running through corridors between battle arenas

For stylish action this game gets a 10/10 from me, the story is not too bad at all, but the environments and some of the bosses could have been better. Playing through this thing only once is not enough - the depth is incredible, and the difficulty modes have remixed enemies.

I would say DmC did several things better:
- it made you care more about the story enemies and bosses
- platforming was well done
- the environments were more interesting

Overall this is an excellent game and I will likely be spending a good bunch more time with it over the coming weeks while waiting for bloody palace. Capcom is on a roll recently with so many great AAA releases.

Why didn’t the game give me an option for the red orb bonus when I don’t want it? Can I undo this I hate having a leg up in games

The game is amazing. My only gripe is the excessive loading screens for customisation. I thought they could have polished that part up.

Interesting how the game doesn't tell you, you can parry nearly everything...this has to be my favourite one, since he always gets super armour after a knockdown:

Can anyone confirm if the environments are repetitive?
They are for the most part, with a little variety. The environments are somewhat "sterile" and have an empty feel. The occasional crate or barrel to smash is nice.

Question to anyone who has finished the game:

In how many hours did you do it?

About 13. I have a lot of experience with these type of games, but even so, if you use continues rather than restart missions it should be in that ballpark. It would be a waste not to play the game a second time on a higher difficulty given that the first run unlocks many things you hardly get to use (there are unlocks right up to the last mission).

12, though I played a lot of DMC4 back in December. Warmed me up pretty well for Nero and Dante.

Second playthrough took about 8 hours skipping most of the cutscenes and knowing where I was going.

Played the first 7 missions before I realised you can level up your health. Makes the boss fights much easier.

Is there any way to switch the devil breakers in combat?

Not sure if posted already but this intro sequence gets me so pumped up! Everytime I boot the game, I watch it at least once. Capcom is really back! A lot of credit to how awesome DMC5 is goes to Devil Trigger imo. Fantastic game!

Just beat chapter 15 and going to call it a night, not sure how far i am to the end but i dont want to get to the point where im falling asleep fighting to finish the game.

The combat in this game feels very easy to cheese. Last boss i fought with nero was just me strafing around them and shooting them with charged shots. Didnt take any damage either.

Apparently there is a patch for PS4 at this time that added "holy rays" to cover up Trish's bum. Can anyone confirm if nudity is being censored on Xbox one and PC versions?

This better not be true. I'm just getting started on the Xbox One version. If it's censored on PS4 and not PC or Xbox One then that blows the whole argument that Sony is only censoring anime or underage content.

Damn amazing game so far, though!

The game has already been rated M for nudity and it's pretty tame compared to games like Witcher 3. So if this patch is real it's bizarre. I'll never understand how you can show people getting impaled left and right, but a woman's bare ass is considered crossing the line.

This will seriously piss me off and make me second guess supporting Sony at all. I don't think I can make it that far into DMCV tonight to confirm if the Xbox One version is uncensored but it sure looks like this is a Sony issue. I looked the scene up on YouTube and it does have a large chunk of the screen covered in purple light. It appears Lady has "lens flare" no matter what (though I hear you can disable the lens flare on the PC).

If this is real then it sounds like Sony is taking issue even with realistic, adult nudity. The likelihood that Cyberpunk 2077 will have issues just shot up, lol.

There needs to be clarification on what is censored before a game releases.

Edit: It's censored on the western PS4 via a patch and apparently uncensored on all other platforms. Images of the different versions here.

Good thing I'm on the Xbox!

That is so fucking ridiculous.
I played Agony on my PS4 last year, now a partial butt is censored. Sony is on another planet.

It makes me wonder if Bioware compiled the Mass Effect Trilogy for PS4 would Sony would censor it? Hell, would Sony even allow ME Andromeda now?

I am getting (slowly) better at doing combos. Just have to remember letting go of RB for some stuff. I'm starting to feel like there are too many buttons to press for my age... :messenger_confounded:

Do we know if this was the case all along or only since Patch 1.1?

That is so fucking ridiculous.
Especially for a game with adult rating.
Sony is not supposed to play the moral coach for adult content.

From what I can gather the patch adds the lights to Trish so you can not patch the PS4 version and be treated to the glorious butt the rest of the world sees!

This game has a cutscene every 60 seconds, does it stay like this the whole time?

I don't really understand the rating at the end of a mission. There is supposed to be someone there with me? I have never seen another player though. Pretty weird.

What part of the rating exactly?

Some missions feature several characters fighting nearby, and in these instances they are sometimes controlled by players playing that mission with another character than you.

I like the environments though I agree that they are kind of samey. Something I loved from the first game was the great variety of levels, despite being inside a castle (as in Castlevania).

I don't understand why I cannot switch my arms at will or why suddenly they all disappear.

Enemies and bosses are truly fantastic. I love their design, though Ender would be suffering for this insector slaughtering.

V is the SSS guy, like Vergil in DMC 4. I cannot wait for DMD mode for it is clear that things will get pretty hectic when enemies are on par with your pets and you have to manage carefully 3 characters in the battle. Right now spamming Shadow is a winner.

Devil May Cry 5 Is The Second Best Launch On Steam For Capcom After Monster Hunter World
Devil May Cry 5 has surpassed the all-time peak for Resident Evil 2 Remake on its debut. It is now the second best launch on Steam for Capcom ahead of Resident Evil 2 Remake but behind Monster Hunter World, which was absolutely massive.

Devil May Cry 5 launched with Denuvo DRM, which is the case with almost every Capcom release. There were reports of the PC version getting cracked before the official launch and game unlocking on Steam, but despite that, the player count for Devil May Cry 5 remained strong and it continued to surge during its opening day.

Devil May Cry 5 has done really well on PC judging from the all-time peak concurrent player count it currently has on Steam charts. At the time of writing this article, it has surpassed 77K concurrent player count. While it is possible that this number will increase throughout this week, it won’t be able to hit the Monster Hunter World number, which had more than 300K concurrent player at one point during its launch.

What matters more is that Devil May Cry 5 is now already ahead of Resident Evil 2, which had an all-time peak concurrent player count of 74K on Steam. It is now well on its way to hit the Top 5 concurrent player count for Japanese games on Steam which is currently claimed by Dark Souls 2 and 3, Metal Gear Solid 5, and Monster Hunter World.

Resident Evil 2 opened to three million sales in its debut week. It will be interesting to see how well Devil May Cry 5 fares next to Resident Evil 2. Capcom is expecting the game to ship two million in its current fiscal year.

Game starts out pretty slow and staggered but my god it gets so much fun in the later parts of the game....so much love has been put into some of these set pieces

It's not so much hitting them before they hit you, but moreso hitting their "swing" with your own.
This can be done while being locked onto them or with the free camera? Or even both as long as I'm facing the attack?

Another thing : how do you dodge attacks effectively? Might be a stupid question, but the boss attacks seem to hit me very often even though I'm doing what the game told me : sick to the side and roll with a. I know there is table hopper as well, but the timing seems very strict.

I prefer DMCV's gauntlets to DmC's Eryx any day of the week. They looked like potato sacks that were caught on fire in DmC. In DMCV they get you ready for battle. I love it.

So long as your sword's hitbox touches their attack's hitbox at the right moment it doesn't matter.

Just jump, it has iframes like a dodge roll. If you still get hit through that then you were too close :messenger_winking:

Eryx was the worst. It looked like a pair of Hulk Hands :messenger_confused:

Fuckin' fantastic game.

Capcom is Fuckin Back, Baby

I wish more games used this engine. So clean on PC

My awesome brother Solarstrike Solarstrike gifted me the game last night on Steam! Thanks bro! Didn't get a chance to play it last night but I'm going to dive into it now.

Go easy on me but I'm a total DMC noob. This will be the FIRST DMC I ever play. Seems like a good jumping in point. I did manage to play the demo that's on
Xbox for my Xbox One X and that looked and played fantastic. I can imagine how it looks and plays on my Founder's Edition Nvidia 2080! :messenger_sunglasses:

Off to send demons back to hell!! :messenger_ogre::messenger_darts:

- I feel like I need 2 right thumbs to play V optimally. Anyone try moving Shadow or Griffon to a shoulder button?

- re: parrying - I haven't tested it myself yet but I've seen videos where Overture can parry and it supposedly has a fairly large window.

Was really enjoying the game and then I hit V's section. Really sucked the life out of the gameplay and pacing the whole time I played as him.

Not because he's a new character and that I'm biased towards Dante and Nero, but becuase he's fucking terrible, and there is nothing enjoyable or redeaming from his playstyle, at all.

I'm really hoping there isn't many more controllable segments with him.

He seems like a cool character, but he should only be for cutscene and story purposes.
