There should be more laws when it comes to these sorts of aquistions and deals.

Whooo! X-Men after credits scene here we come.

Remember, the shawarma after credits for Avengers was filmed 2 days after the Hollywood premiere.

Can a comic nerd explain to me what this means for Inhumans? That is assuming Marvel uses the X-Men property eventually. I'm under the impression that Marvel started strengthening the "Inhumans" brand because the X-Men were presently unavailable, but I'd like to know if I'm wrong.

What would be really cool, if Marvel makes an X-Men movie, would be if they used a new version of the 90s cartoon theme... even if it were just in a teaser. It would tickle me even more if they hired Ron Wasserman to compose it. People would be stepping over each other to buy a ticket if that music were in a teaser/trailer.

What would your suggestion be? Fox were shutting shop and selling anyway. What should have happened?
I'm not very well read when it comes economics and business practices, but I find the existence of monopolies like Disney disgusting and harmful to the market of film and toys. I believe that competition can drive improvement to a product by giving challenge and the multiple players can come up with some pretty unique ideas. When there is no challenge or different people coming up with different ideas, you get stagnation which leads to a decline in quality of a product. More companies should have a foothold in the market, Disney is discouraging this with their aquistions, they have become too large to compete with.

As what can be done, I think more laws should be in place to prevent these practices in the future, and if possible I would like to see these sorts of businesses divided and segregated, like when Standard Oil was divided up in 1911 under the Sherman Antitrust Act.

I do believe businesses should have some leeway in some instances, but to muscle out competition in such a manner is unacceptable.

EDIT: I got so wrapped up on monopolies that I forgot the intial question. "What should Fox have done when it was closing shop"? Perhaps selling some properties to other companies that do not already have the size and strength of Disney?

Disney honestly doesn't need Fox, but Fox needs Disney more than anyone. From what I've heard, Ruppert Murdoch wants to focus more on News and Sports, and with Fox having lost a lot of relevance recently, it'd be best to sell the entertainment stuff to another company. Besides, it's not like Disney owns all of Fox now. Fox network, and the aforementioned News and Sports stuff, still exist as a separate company under "Fox Corporation".

Also, let's not forget this isn't the first time Fox sold one of their assets to Disney. Almost a 2 decades ago, Fox sold is children's unit, Fox Family Worldwide to Disney in 2001. In it Disney, gained the Fox Family Channel, Saban Entertainment, Fox Kids Network, and the entire programing library that goes with it.

Fox lost their entire children's entertainment division to Disney, now they lost everything else to them.

Power is where money is.
So, vote with your wallet.

I don't see Disney and Netflix to be all that different.
If anything, Netflix is threatening the whole theater business.

Movie ticket pricing are already not based on competition.
So the main group that could be harmed by this kind of monopolies, are the movie stars.

I agree. I think Disney needs Fox to try keep up with Netflix.

So basically it is now even more worth to get a subscription to the Diseny Streaming Service?^^

If we get everything Disney now has in Germany as well I will certainly subscribe. Amazon Prime in Germany is a Joke and _Netflix also has not as many movies and series as in the US.

I'm all for this move by the way. I think it'll be a net positive. I'm open to being wrong though.

interesting thread here. oldest movie theater in Toronto showing Aliens, etc. for the last time.

How about they give us a little context as to why? Freaking idiots complaining, yet we have no details as to why things like that are changing. But then they want to get mad at us for being happy that a good Fantastic Four movie is probably on the way.

click on each tweet, each one has a thread. these are people who program movies at a longstanding theater, being told they can no longer show old films. they go into it.

but lol at your defense! hah you even say there is a good movie on the way. dude, this isn't about how good the movies are. this is about them fucking up movies themselves. by making movie theaters stop showing movies.

these are people directly impacted, talking about being impacted. cut it with the "no details" bullshit. you just have to listen to them.

Good point. It's something that Twitter just isn't good at. It's easy to only view the first Tweet. But looking through the thread, I just can't get myself to feel mad at Disney. I do feel bad for these people that lost out here. But at the end of the day, it is a business of course. I'm "ASSUMING" that Disney did this because all of those Fox movies will be on either Disney+ or HULU. I understand how the everyday man may not like that. And I understand MORE why those employees hate it, but this is how business works.

I'd also assume that Blockbuster employees hated Netflix and RedBox too. I know small mom and pop shops hate it when the local mayor approves of a town Wal-Mart to be built too. Times change and so do business models.
