You haven't lived until you watched Phantom of the Paradise. Super 70s though so it can be hard to digest. The things they do to that poor composer.

Not to mention Paul Williams just killing it with the soundtrack!

I'd like to introduce you to Takashi Miike. Start with The Happiness of the Katakuris, Ichi the Killer, Zebraman, Gozu, and end with Visitor Q. He's done some AMAZING movies (The Bird People of China, Audition, Thirteen Assassins), but some of his earlier movies are beyond weird.

a cult classic

Though technically and visually quite unusual, reviewers found this artsy black-and-white "mythodrama," which features repeated disembowelment, unappealing in the extreme. In the story, a god uses a knife to mutilate himself, and dies. A woman comes along, and recognizing his godhood, uses his corpse to get pregnant, and gives birth to a son. The son and she are captured and disemboweled by a nomadic tribe.

Kuso, just don’t watch it unless you really hate yourself and want to be fucking disgusted.

It is the strangest, grossest thing I’ve ever watched and sometimes think about doing it again, but I just can’t. As soon as I see the title card I hesitate on pulling that trigger.

This is the most boring, pretentious sack of shit I ever saw.

Maybe Death Bed: The Bed That Eats or Ed Wood's Orgy of the Dead.

Orgy of the Dead is a collection of "erotic" dances. It is the least erotic thing you will ever see in your life. I was putting clothes on as I watching it.

Nope I still say Kuso, and I dare anyone here to watch it.

I really want to talk to someone who has been through it, I shouldn’t have to suffer alone.
I haven't seen Kuso but have you seen Funky Forest? I have a hard time believing that there can be something weirder than it. I'll watch Kuso though.

I love Miike, The Bird People of China is such an amazing movie, glad someone here appreciates it.

If it’s safe for YouTube, it’s very safe compared to Kuso.
Lol yeah Funky Forest is not grotesque (some parts are a bit though) but it is weird af. The weirdest movie I've ever seen and I've seen lots of weird (and grotesque) movies, I actively searched for them when I was younger cause I like weirdness.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
More recently, Sorry to Bother You took one of the weirdest fucking twists I've ever seen in a film. It's ludicrous.

Ya this is pretty weird , with themes of incest or some shit.
A movie representing a now non-existent image on the internet that has gone unavailable sounds terrific indeed. Ralph eats the Internet horror flick incoming.

Rocky Horror Picture Show. I hated it, but somehow a number of people are into it.

I haven't seen it, but Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe sounds like a hot mess. I enjoyed this review:

THE Prey 2 fanatic
Apocalypse, CA. Very... very strange movie. Like the writers were on acid. It's incredibly hard to find in decent quality, legally or not, and I actually had to personally ask the director to make it available for purchase, which he did for only a limited period of time. I can offer the MP4 to anyone interested, as there is no method to purchase it at the moment.
The Earth is about to be struck by an asteroid, a magical woman grants a few wishes, and a set of pills induce the feeling of having sex with two specific people.

The Glamorous Life of Sachiko Hanai
Holy Motors
Zoo: A Zed & Two Noughts
The Saragossa Manuscript

Alejandro Jodorowsky across the board (who people already mentioned) but also
Peter Greenaway earlier movies (like "Zoo" or "Draughtsman's Contract")

my friends call me "Cunty"
Inland Empire. It's David Lynch at his weirdest and meta (since it's about an actress). Also good for music nerds, since it's the source of a Burial sample. And this is definitely not the kind of role you expect Laura Dern to play.

Ugh. Eraserhead is my answer. I had to watch it for a philosophy class. I still have no idea what it was.

I have watched it 4x at different points throughout my life and I think I finally understood it....

......after watching a breakdown video on YouTube.

I work(ed) in public school SPED so this one theory connected with me, and the theory I saw on YouTube basically said that the movie is about the challenges of having/raising a child with disabiltiies in a world that isn't nurturing.

Lost Highway, courtesy of David Lynch.

Even now I have no fucking clue what that film was about.

I was actually able to follow most of that movie, granted it helped that a friend told me a very specific line that Bill Pullman says is important ("I like to remember things my own way. How I remember them. Not necessarily the way they happened.") and I was able to piece most of the movie together.

The other Lynch movie I've seen, Mulholland Drive, now that one went over my head. For a while during it I thought I might have an idea what was going on sorta but then a scene in the final act completely destroyed any theory I had.

Pi. First movie I watched where I made a mental bookmark in my head never to talk to the person who recommended this movie to me about movies ever again.

Primer was also very strange. The first half of this movie was kind of awesome but then the second half gets so confusing you are left in total confusion by the end.

And I love how pretentious the trailer is. It doesn’t even tell you it’s a time travel movie.

Oh, I forgot, fun fact about Lost Highway, David Lynch actually based the opening scene off of practically what happened to him in real life. He woke up early, got a buzz on his intercom, and a voice he didn't know said, "Dick Laurant is dead." No one was outside by the time he got to the front window. He says his neighbor was an actor also named David so possibly the message was for him instead but regardless rather weird. I'd find it funny if whoever the voice belonged to ever saw the movie and his eyes widened at the opening scene.

There's a movie I can't remember the name of that was like from the 80s or late 70s and was about a guy who ends up leading a bunch of people up a mountain to find God or something and was just bizarre as hell. I will try to google it

I really liked this one. It's one of those movies I would like to see remade with a bigger budget.

i absolutely LOVE this movie. it's so bizarre, so many weird sets and visual effects in it. a few years ago a local theater showed it and people were upset because "it wasn't a horror movie". it really is it's own thing, a dark, twisted fantasy.
