House of Reckoning

Can anyone tell me am I able to go back to the world map and mop up side missions / collectibles after this mission or am I locked in now until the end of the campaign?

Also, after you finish the campaign, can you then also go back for collectibles or have to start a new game?

yes

I didnt like the topics of the story, and I have thought brutes were dumb since Halo 2.

That said, they can't even write new matrix or Star Wars. I expect nothing.

I think a good starting point is to tear up the story and consider if it fits co-op. Am I supposed to be watching that ending shit with Darrel on the mic with a box of tissue?

The monkey is not cool, Elites are still cool, you will want some "oh shit" moments, the world state must change. If you go past how Keyes death is treated in any way, you have gone to far. Remember when Master Chief had to take a biometric key out of his husk...Yuck. Good guy, though. Good captain.

I would accept no Chief, Halos, new enemies, new locations...if the story strokes were along the lines of their original Halo. I think most paid authors know all stories have been told, people are exposed to story types earlier, and there is nowhere to go with franchises that were generational firsts. You cant have a new Star Wars, Halo, Matrix, Fight Club.

I don't believe the answer is to recreate the original, tho that is where most franchises land. I also dont think they story they tell is interesting. It's really about emotions. Like...the fuck? Why? For who do they make this shit?

Here is a fun creative excercise, 343: make a story that is good with the sound and subtitles off. Halo 1 was cool because that's how I experienced (talking with my friend over whatever was happening it in co-op mode), it still worked. The end result will probably be fun to replay. I dont see how I replay this.

Actually the open world was fun and I may fuck with it. Good job.

Would anyone have any words of encouragement for me, so that I would find the will within me to fire up the campaign and finish the four remaining bosses on Legendary?

I just arrived at Adjutant Resolution R2

My sentiments as well. Don't give one single fuck about Halo's story aside from CE I guess, but perhaps more from a "this is all new to me and I like it so I'm more or less engaged" standpoint. Never liked the brutes very much as well. Covenant are cool AF and would've liked infiltrating Covenant Space ships with some exotic artitecture and design ie more purple LSD shit

With that said I'm really losing sense of time while playing, roaming around taking my time and doing clutch shit. It's very entertaining. I do love walking on the ring, nice ambience. I really missed Halo

I hope this whole problematic process which is Infinites campaign is used as a blueprint to give us Halo Infinity: C(ampaign) E(volved)

Somewhat smaller piece by piece level areas to freely roam that are more diverse (think Halo CE/2's thematic level approach) that are more dense with more (organic) enemy encounters, narratively and therefore more logically placed FOB's ( marine holdup spots) which act like lore/ammo/etc based points which drive the player to continue the battle. Less emphasis on a detached overarching story that's somewhat forced onto the player and instead a close to context revealing of situational awareness style of breadcrumb narrative. I'm done talking.

Ive been clearing the map for Mjolnir armor lockers, and found the final 13/13 locker in the
Lima FOB
area. I couldnt understand why it didnt show up on the tacmap after clearing every FOB. I love discovering stuff like that, and the way you could just barely see a hint to where it is by clever use of some of the unsc items that you usually find in the locker locations.

I’d like mission select soon please - would like to get my own back in tower of reckoning on legendary with bandana skull on please just for shits and giggles.

Really enjoying playing this in spurts between my bloodborne runs. The combat is absolutely sublime. I think I’m towards the end as I’m getting achievements for securing the last fob base and set of marines etc. Looking forward to completing heroic and then doing a legendary co op run with a friend. Couldn’t care about the story and brute boy shouting at me But the gameplay is the best ever. Gg on that front.

You have to go up there for a skull anyway iirc.

But I was just trying to get up there without the Wasp, before it unlocked.

The Halo campaign formula: Bring your fav guns to a mission, run out of bullets for them 1/3 into the mission, pick up trashy guns on the ground for the rest of the mission. Rinse and Repeat.
It can be frustrating at times but the resupply boxes are an excellent edition to the game. If you run out of ammo for one gun that you love hold onto it as long as possible as eventually you should find a resupply box. I tried to have 2 different weapon types as well.

Watch out tho.
There is a skull in the last Mission and a few Audio Logs in the last missions. If you don't get them you will have to play on a new save since as of now you cannot replay missions. Everything that is in a Mission as a collectible has to be collected in said missions. Every collectible that is available in Open World will be obtainable after finishing the campaign so don't worry about those.

Thank you.

I’ve 100% the campaign tonight getting those final few propaganda towers. I climbed through the girders to dodge the sentinels in the last mission 😂

I missed that skull by mistake on my Legendary run and was so infuriated. I got it in my Easy "Speedrun" though, since you need to finish all Missions in under 8h for a Achievement anyway and you won't need anything close to, even less when you use the Tank-Gun Easteregg/Glitch and they barely do any damage to you on Easy so you can just stroll through.

Just finished the campaign. Gameplay was great and I actually really liked the open world aspects. Made the sandbox much more fun to need around than a traditional campaign but...
what the hell was that story? Did 343 forget all the stuff they were pushing in 4 and 5? Cortana spends 2 games turning all the AIs and those guardian things against humanity and organic life in general but by the end of this game she has a change of heart after talking to a monkey. Am I missing something? How does she go from destroying planets and all races are under threat of extinction to getting outsmarted by a brute and realizing she misses her friends lol. None of the bosses were all that interesting. The only ones I remember are the last brute boss just because he had asthma and the final boss because of the bull shit lightning attack. What was the "secret of zeta Halo" anyway? That there was another race frozen in Carbonite? Why do I care? I didn't see any evidence they were a big deal and it just felt like set up for the next game. I admit I did not play Halo wars 2 but I did look up the synopsis so maybe I'm missing something important. This game just doesn't seem to jive with the story beats that came before it

I knew it was in the general area around the FOB, but not the location. So it wasnt because I searched all over the place. I spent some time in the wasp back and forth and literally landed on the first hint by chance when grappling around. Its a nice unlockable too. The other vehicle coatings are the red Banished ones but this is more like a custom one you would buy in the store. Maybe thats why it isnt unlocked by the FOB in question, so people have to go find it :messenger_grinning:

Got stuck on final brute. Damn hammer.

Niw lost quicksave so back on his first attacks with guns again.

Any tips / strategy other than running away with pot shots?
I am getting annoyed now and just want to get back to the open world.

Every time he gets near, grapple hook to the other side of the room. Fire away with ranged weapons and power weapons as he is charging towards you. Rinse and repeat until he is dead. Plenty of ammo and power weapons on the edge of the room.

I haven't attempted it either as of yet. I'm thinking of learning some speedrun strats since you can skip half of the game with them. That would be a godsend. Together with the tank gun it sounds doable. Only afraid of the boss fight before you get the gun.

You can stun him with the grappling hook. Also if you grapple far enough away from him there is a possibility of getting a checkpoint.

I did this last night on Heroic, and just a tip not to use any of the human weapons on him in case you tried that. At least I was using the BR for the last phase to chip away at his health in between using grapple to keep distance as well as grappling him and then moving out. Grapple then stick a grenade as long as you have any left, and grapple out of the way.

But I got so frustrated at one point from not doing any damage with the BR at all, and changed randomly to a Needler and lo and behold that bad boy completely wrecked him. Felt like the Needler did double the damage from the BR. So I assumed there was something with him having a weakness to human weapons, or Kinetic weapons maybe. Once I switched to the Needler, and I had a save on his last phase so I could go from there, I finished him off in two attempts. Like day and night difference with those two weapons.

I mean, on the story beats, if you look a them at face value, that's one of 4 storie going on.

  • Chief has gained and lost a lot over the course of the series. He's the ultimate bad ass, but he's human. He's failed locally to save the greater good, but failing to destroy Cortana ended up killing millions of people.
  • The Banished assumed Atriox was dead
  • Cortana destroyed the Brute homeworld.
  • The Banished just wanted to annihilate the UNSC and almost did. Between Cortana and The Banished, the UNSC has been dismantaled and stranded on the ring with a tremendous number of casualties throughout the universe.
  • Cortana blew up the section of the ring as a last resort
  • The Endless have been awakened by Atriox (Legendary Ending)
  • The Endless were immune to the Halo's defenses against the Flood which is why they were imprisoned as they are a timeless race of creatures and could not be killed off by the Halo Array. If the flood gets ahold of the endless, the flood wouldn't starve to death, and would flourish. Making the Halo Array pointless and would end all life in the worst way possible without the ability to bring all life back.

so sure, there were some emotional points. But there was a lot of story to be had. It's a good setup for the next set of DLC/games.

They only thing I got of thosr bullets were:

cortana blew the ring. I did not know Atriox was alive. How would I know that. Was he the clean faced minkey at the end?

Thanks for proving the point though. How did you get all this info? The audio logs don't have to be picked up. I actually wish I undrstood the game like you do. They never said any of that in a cutscene.

You have to be in like 1% of players that got that out of the game

  • Find chief
  • Chief wants to go back to Halo for an ai
  • ...start to take over island to make them pay
  • They are digging, a promethean shoes up to zip zap around
  • ...gotta stop them all
  • Chief tries to delete new ai, but doesnt want to mention rampancy (im into the lore)
  • Cortana blew monkys home. Not cool
  • Cortana blew ring. Keeping the new AI though it will will be bad
  • Credits: new minkey shows up, kinda looks like a clean faced atriox. Wished it was an elite

Grapple to the top of one of the pillars in the middle of the room and take him out with power weapons. Beat it last night on Legendary. 99% of this game was a cakewalk, but some of the boss encounters were rage inducing for me.

Story is not all in the cutscenes.
Clean face after credits was Atriox.
The words the Harbinger Speaks during the campaign were important
There's also text that is narrated in one of the levels that spoke to the trials the forerunners had to banish The Endless
The last level was where the trials occured.

This was a fun one. This is a mock up image of what a space fighting game would look like. A lot of the inspiration came from the Sabre Mission in Reach and how cool it would be to have that be a full game.
Very early on during the development, we formed groups and had a week to make a playable prototypes of some of the things we would like to see in Halo. Can't remember everyone that participated but some were Ryan Roth, Brian May, David Heidhoff.

Just finished it.

What a fantastic game. Very well put together, infact, probably most satisfied I have been with a game since OoT. Frustrations are entirely down to your own skill / tactics, so many different ways of tackling things... Looking forward to jumping back in.

Very glad I got the xbox :)

The only real issue I had was that on Legendary some of the boss fights were outrageously difficult.

Still, my favorite levels in past Halo games were where you were in a vehicle. So...yeah, I'm getting a lot of enjoyment here.

I would agree, that last battle felt like Doom Eternal to some degree at that 3rd round.

Those are gorgeous. This is the sort of colouring and vibrancy that Infinite should have achieved instead of that "samey washout" feel when outdoors. Variety was sorely missing from the campaign environments. Destiny 1&2 really nail the vibrancy and colour grades from planets to mission by mission.

Seeing those Cortana billboard shots would have been far better in game than the speeches we got. Same goes for the planet kaboom.
