FRIDAYTON MK II: 5.5 million bears and salmon create unholy allliance to sack SONY HQ

Unban Keit4!!!

HE WAS RIGHTT!!

CEERNYYYYY!! WHAT I WAS FIGHTING FOOORRR!!

...

Seriously, if this means that PS4 OS won't fall behind XB1 features is ok. Still let's see and wait, right now nothing indicates in the OS that they are using that much PS4 is not offering multitasking, right?

Anyone making a purchase decision one way or the other on this is out of their gord. Games that you thought were impressive or not, will remain so.

Games.

Please let that be WHY you're even considering this thing in the first place.

Oh, Brad.

Based on what we know (if this rumor is true), the difference between the One and PS4 is less than the difference between PS2 and Xbox or GameCube.

Do people who keep mentioning this actually have some sort of basis to claim that such functionality requires insane amounts of RAM.

Yeah, especially because it was already stated by MS that the XboxONE does indeed record the video to the HDD. So, it means it's the most logical solution.

Honestly if this turns out to be true and Sony can show us why it is worth allocating that much RAM to the OS, I'm okay with it. It's not really the same as having to allocate an entire GB to Kinect, as it's all focused on one system.
Do we know how much ram is allocated to the PSeye? After all was the console clearly designed with it in mind.

Forgive my ignorance, but why would Brad have any investment in propagating a lie?

He doesn't have an investment (except, possibly, an emotional one), but he's been shown to talk very confidently about topics that he really knows very little about. On the Bombcast, on Twitter, even here on NeoGAF. He talks shit about how people on the Internet don't have his secret sources and should shut up because they don't know what they're talking about, but doesn't seem to realize that all applies to him as well.

This kind of shit is hilarious... people trying to predict the power advantages/disadvantages before the consoles are even released. We're not really going to know for quite a while, folks.

DEAL BREAKER.

Only half of the systems RAM will used for games. No wonder Killzone 4 & Drive Club are 30fps. Pathetic really.

Might as well cancel my PS4 pre-order & get an Xbox One, which at least it has Forza 5.

Does any PC gamer know if there has been any game out to date to utilize 4gb of vram? I'm just curious.

EDIT: This obviously forbids the PS4 from ever having a good game, right? C'mon, people.

Firstly the difference between PS2 and Xbox was very significant.

Secondly having 50% more GPU compute cores is still quite significant.

If you put in the fact that they might be using that RAM space to record those last 15 minutes of gameplay constantly, it's not really that absurd?

Also 5.5gb is plenty of ram.

So much entitlement in this post.

I'm the one paying for the damn thing ain't I?

Well, he is right. As a long time PC gamer I can tell you that there is no difference between having 5.5 GB RAM and 8GB RAM. None at all.

I support rolling back the years in tech. What's the point in even having 4.5 GB easily accessible and 5.5 with challenging access.

Hell I'm from the Kutaragi and Nintendo mixed school of thought. Devs did wonders with 512 MB of ram, so imagine what they could do with a full GB! And let's make 256 MB easily accessible and the rest challenging, because that way we separate the lazy from the hard working devs and the console is really future proof. Games will keep looking better and better as the gen goes along, and they figure out how to use the whole GB.

I mean, if it makes you feel better, you could look at it like they are allocating at least 4.5GB to games. Basically putting a hard cap on concurrent memory usage by everything else on the system. In the future they could allocate more, but never less.

What do I need to feel better about? Until this is either confirmed or denied, and Sony releases a response, there is really no point in my reacting to anything. I say we should wait for more concrete information before we jump to conclusions, but then again its GAF lol.

It seemed to be a big deal with the XBox One. Seemed to be a big deal with the Wii U. Why isn't it a big deal now?

Oh, right, console wars. Forgot.

Why is every OS taking up so much RAM now? The PS3 and 360 OSes barely use any RAM and they work well enough.

I wonder if this is only a limit imposed by only having 8 GB of gddr5 on your devkits, MS does have more than 8 on theirs.

That makes sense to me. Honestly, this is one of those wait and see moments for me. I could believe both sides, so I'm just gonna wait until something is confirmed fact. Still, the whole 4.5 available thing is interesting if it's true. Aside from streaming and recording, I wonder what they're using that much memory for? Unannounced features? I also wonder what they'd be "turning off" to get that extra GB.

That's why he said reserving 3.5GB for OS functions makes no sense according to him, but he did add that he isn't an OS developer so could be wrong.

I think you're forgetting that the PS4 is 1.84TFlops vs the Xbox One's 1.2Tflops. This doesn't change the fact that the PS4 is still 50% more powerful. And the ram also has 3x more bandiwdth to boot. Oh and there's still 500mb more availble to devs if this rumour is true.

I know we are joking about NSA spyware but it is just about the only explanation left for how the OS could possibly require 3.5 GB of GDDR5.

ND just unleashed one of the greatest game experiences of this generation (some might argue any) on a system using 512MB with only half of that being dedicated to the GPU. Whatever is available to devs is plenty. Calm the fuck down.

LMAO! I felt like u shook grabbed him and smacked him before you said that slowly.

Game Informer: Report: PlayStation 4 Reserves Nearly Half Of RAM For OS

:lol

Indeed. By their account, we should just never buy anything ever, because it'll be outdated in a few months anyway.

IGN, we don't buy game console b/c we want top tech; we buy them for games. But if this Eurogamer stuff is true, I still find the amount being reserved for multitasking media for both systems....utterly insane.
