Damn, feel really bad for those who just got spoiled on The Last of Us

Haha, I figured that out quick. Was obvious to me.

You guys, that isn't really a proper spoiler of The Last of Us, not some end game story revelation or anything like that. It's essentially the premise of the game, so don't worry if you read it. It would be like saying "Assassin's Creed is in a computer program."

NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I've never played them.

Jk

I mean for the likes of Titan or any other card with a quantity of GDDR5 close to the PS4. $1000 for the whole package isn't that much since you're buying something to be used for more than playing games. But for someone who wants games alone with similar performance at a fraction of the cost, the PS4 is the perfect alternative to a gaming PC.

now that we know only 4.5-5.5GB on PS4 would be available for games, how much of that would be used for video? half of that? so it has no advantage over a PC video card that has 2-3GB GDDR5. as for CPU tasks the CPU on PS4 only has 20GB/s bandwidth, so no advantage there over PC's DDR3 either.

As mentioned already; a good gaming PC nets you about $1000. It will always range in that ballpark if you're going for an up-to-date system each time every three or so years.

$1000 every 3 years? Haha. Someone is doing something wrong if that is the cycle and price they buy PCs in. My last gaming PC prior to me upgrading lasted about 5 years. By the end of its gaming life I had to turn down certain graphics options, but it still looked better than the console versions of the same game.

When I finally upgraded last summer I used the same case, keyboard, mouse, DVD drive which saved a significant amount money. I could've used the same hard drive as well but I wanted a SATA III drive instead of the II that was in there.

$1000 every three years is not valid assessment of what is required for a gaming PC. Also how much is PSN/LIVE going to cost over 5 years? That adds $250 right there. Console games usually cost more and their prices stay higher longer. I game on both consoles and PCs and the cost difference isn't just A vs. B, many factors come out in the long run to make the costs closer than you would think.

Interesting thread title. Nothing to see here.
If this was a Xbox One story, I'm sure the thread title would be clearly spelled out. Word for word. And more than likely bolded!

Yeah man this conspiracy runs so deep. Remember that one speech Obama gave telling parents to "turn off the xbox"? I'm sure that's somehow involved.

Been gone most of the day. Can someone give me a good breakdown of what's happened in the past few hours? I've seen some references to insider statements but can't track them down.

How the hell is thuway allowed to share his insider knowledge after the "FF15 is exclusive to PS4" debacle?
It was going to be at some point but the contract didn't get signed.

The PS4 is less than half that, with the same games, some of its own exclusives, comparable performance, twice the shelf-life, more GDDR5 (potentially more performance), and so on. It's a completely moot point unless you're a rich bastard.

You can easily build a $800 PC with a $300 Radeon 7950, which has 3GB GDDR5 and already 50% more powerful than PS4's GPU.

compare that to the cost of $400 PS4, and pay $50 a year for online for its life cycle (8 years?).

they cost the same!

I don't know about conspiracy, but I question it being allowed. It does cause one to miss it. I was looking for the old thread title and just realized this was it.

Did a mod do it?

GPU and CPU alone, if you're going for particularly mid-range, would be about $700. More if you're going high-end. It's not an exact science, however. Never claimed it was, just gave averages.

Monthly costs are not comparable to lump sums. While it's natural to think of it in a retrospective way, it's not realistic.

I do agree with you on many things there though (cost of games, etc). I'm not saying PS4 > PC or something. I'm a PC gamer. I'm just saying that the PS4 is a nice alternative and that any complaints [solely] against the amount of RAM are unfounded. The actual power of the GPU/CPU is a whole other issue.

That was heavily hinted by a LOT of people, in and out of GAF, some even more reliable than thuway. Kinda weird how the trailer on the square enix youtube channel doesn't have the xbox trademarks, don't you think?

A lot of people thought that... even Kagari and others. Seems like things changed though DURING E3 since they were in talks about it at the event, I believe.

Essentially insiders say
4.5 guaranteed
1.5 os now
1 bookmarked for things they may need to add to os (in reaction to features in xbone which become popular for eg party chat for ps3)
1 is flexible available to dev but it's heap memory not stack as of now.

They could free up the 1 back from os in the future and streamline the rest accordingly . Basically Sony is playing it safe . Also devs seem that some of these comments and discussions are way overblown and are happy with the ram available .

Bottom line 5.5 at launch or so. More later but that could take time

Ironically /r/games thread is a better place to find out what this GAF thread is about. Even links GAF insider posts that have been posted.

I highly doubt they are using 3.5 gb for os. I mean what where they using before for the game when they only had 4 gb? 0.5?

PC Gaming isn't just for the rich anymore, no doubt. Console play is for the exclusives, communities, and plug and play experience.

Also with PC build chat: Buy a decent Intel processor and the only thing you'll need to upgrade is the videocard every 2-3 years.

Intel processors from 2008 are still kicking ass right now.

I think the whole story would only make sense if MSFT's TvTvTv presentation would have been a huge success and if there would have been a big outcry that Sony doesn't support such things. In this case I'd understand that they want to catch up and add those features too.

In reality it was completely the other way around. The whole Internet started to complain about MSFT'S attempt and Sony was praised into heaven for concentrating on a gaming machine. Everything just told them they're on the right track. Why would they try to catch up on something that they can clearly see is not wanted.

After all they have done until now it just doesn't make any sense. It's like they would now trash the dual shock 4 after all the praise and add a pad with touch screen similar to Wii U's because they see how bad it's selling.

Because Sony, like Microsoft, realise these cant just be games consoles maybe?

That's it? Meh. Not a big deal for me if true. If anything it just makes it more ridiculous that the XB1 is still going to be more expensive if it's not that much different than PS4.

Just shows you the difference between Sony and Microsoft on GAF. Here you have two exact scenarios across two consoles, but the GAF response for one is much more of a circus show then the other. Lol reminds me of the time someone made a thread comparing exclusives. Within minutes the thread title is changed to show its not "fair" for the Xbox and to take it with a grain of salt.

OK cool. Makes me feel better than I did while reading the article initially. Still disappointing though. Thankfully devs are happy, which is the most comforting thing I could hear. Hopefully stuff opens up later.

It does not mean thuway was not deliberately spewing wrong info. What's funnier his bs was debunked like 20 minutes later.

I also informed the community Killer Instinct was a Free to Play title, sometimes you just get things wrong no matter what. E3 this year was a time where lots of papers were being shuffled left and right. I do my best to contribute, but I can be wrong too. My apologies dear sir. What do you want me to say?

With whatever little I get (that I'm allowed to share), I try to share it with the community. If that bothers you, you can always block me. Ramadan Mubarak :).

It's amusing to see people think this is a big deal. PC games don't even use anywhere near 4GB between what is running in the OS memory space and what is held in GPU RAM. To think the hardware in the PS4 or X1 is ever going to be powerful enough to warrant needing 4+GB of RAM is pretty funny.

PC Gaming is a heck of a lot more community oriented than consoles. Look at it's most popular genres: MMOs and MOBAs, games that highly emphasize team play and social groups.

Is that supposed to be 360?

Sorry if it wasnt clear so basically the 1 bookmarked for the os is for if they need to add extra features later . Like on the 360 once they came with party chat ps3 couldn't implement it because the os didn't have enough memory allocated. They are playing it safe this gen and saying for now were keeping this extra 1 gb for os incase we have to implement something unforeseen in the future z

Could we get a clearer thread title ?
Waking up to a mass thread with no real understanding of what it is about it's helpful.

But from what I understand about the topic not much has changed and talk of cancelling preorders is maddness.

It's kind of funny that they are both people who are upset that the reactions aren't bad enough and want it to be as bad as the XB1 reactions, and people who are upset that people did overreact too much in this thread.

Please enlighten me. Does p2p multi player not take away resources from the host machine lowering the bar?

Yes, but not all games will be p2p. It depends if the dev/publisher wants to set up dedicated servers or not with Amazon/Google/etc.

Either way your previous post was very misleading in more ways than one.

As always , let the games talk.

Both consoles will have weak areas and strong ones , PS4 looks the best deal and 5.5 ram for games is huge.

Wow.Way to re-write the story. Where does the 1.5 for OS come from? Feels like there is some salt affecting interpretations. Get over it.4.5-5.5 is plenty. Dick waving contest can still be won with these figures.

Reserving 1GB of memory for something you "might" need in the future is entirely stupid. Especially if your OS is already 1.5GB to begin with. That's basically saying you're going to have to add an entire operating system's worth of features at some point. Does anyone seriously believe Sony is going to add that much given what the PS4 can currently do with 1.5GB?

yeah, title change makes difficult to follow this thread. it should be something clear about what's going on.

I did a thread search for this after seeing it on another site, and couldn't find anything. I thought it was incredibly bizarre that NeoGAF wouldn't be talking about this, but then I found the incredibly cryptic thread title... then I remembered which side of the fence this site is on.
