Ahh, I was referring more to the time period between the 180 (which was like a week after E3) and launch.

Yeah, I can definitely understand in your particular case that the original plans wouldn't work very well at all. That said, you still apparently have to download massive patches for a lot of the games, even if you can technically play offline afterward, so I'm sure that part still sucks :/

It's fine to say the Xbox One version of the game of the game looks fantastic (since that's a subjective thing), but the PS4 version is objectively better than the Xbox One version. 1080p versus the 720p on the Xbox One, way better antialiasing on PS4, and no weird sharpening/overly dark filter due to the scaler.

As far as I was aware, ps4 bf4 is 900p.

I guess if you've played the game on a high-end PC, BF4 on the X1 might be considered "ugly", but if you haven't I'm not really sure where that comes from. IQ at 720 isn't great by any means but the texture work is mostly solid, effects and animation systems are top notch, and all wrapped in an destructible, impressive sense of scale.

Ahh confused CoD with BF. Either way it is still objective better. I don't really care about visuals as long as they don't affect game play (eg. Leggy controls, low frame rates, or no v sync), but I can understand people who do (most of my friends are totally obsessed with visuals). Maybe it's just me but I don't like it when people downplay or outright lie about things and have an agenda/bias. It's better to just be honest about the situation even if you're a fan of something. Reminds me of when fans of sports team have riots in the streets when there's something like a close call or something even if their team is in the wrong. :p

I live just barely in the city (for work and family reasons) so I have decent internet, but I am constantly going back out to the small town nearby. Basically I just do my updates and stuff when I'm home and them don't worry about it when I drag the console out with me.

Same. I actually think overall I would have been better grabbing the Wii U and some of its backlog and worry about the ps4 in a year or so.

It looks exactly like the PS4 version, just rendering at a lower resolution. Unless you directly compare the two, it's not really something you'd miss during actual gameplay.

What about fps?

Some levels on xbox one run like shit (paracel storm when the storm hits) and really impact the experience.

It will display the bitrate of the video. 5800 is their "SuperHD" bitrate. Some people who have an XB1 have been able to hit that number. I can't. The highest I've gotten is like 3750 but it always bounces back out of that range.

My Smart TV is able to consistently reach and stay at 5800 and my ps3 in my bedroom is able to hit 3750 and stay there (My bedroom TV is only 720 so it can't get any higher).

I'm not sure why this is the case. My xbox is wired and my download speeds test at 60/10.

I can hit Super HD and stay there pretty consistently but it does occasionally plummet to 3000 or less and work its way back up, probably just an issue on netflix' end

I read that the PS4 version has significant frame rate drops during that part too, but haven't played that myself so I can't confirm. Wish Digital Foundry's fps comparisions weren't so bad, they could have at least tried to capture the same action on the same maps.

Can you select your store region when you set up the console?

I've not got an Xbox but wondering ahead of if and when I do. I use the US store on PS4 and would like to do the same on Xbox. I don't want discs and I certainly don't want our £55 retail prices.

I own both copies (XB1 and PS4) and BF4 definately hccups on XB1 during the storm- not on PS4

Settings -> System -> Language & Location -> Set it to whichever store you want -> reboot -> profit

Thanks to some recommandation's on GAF I bought Max: The curse of brotherhood and I Love it. Tha game is a lot of fun and it looks great. The lighting is beautiful and the puzzles are clever. I'm going to try to get 1000/1000 achievements for the extra challenge.

Only time I see framerate drops on BF4 XB1 version is when the sky scraper falls down, it's pretty bad for a couple seconds.

I can't find the motivation to play XB1 at the moment. I'm sticking to 360 until AC Black Flag comes in the mail. I hate the achievements app. =/ Achievements work like a dream on 360 and have an awful system on XB1.

I don't see how it is awful and I'm a big achievement hunter. It is also a lot quicker to get to the achievements. Just say xbox go to achievements and bam I'm there. Would take 3 button presses on the 360.

And my god the art for some of these achievement pictures. Just beautiful to look at.

It shouldn't take you out of the game. The least they could do is have achievements snap to the side of the game.

When you've unlocked an achievement you need to hold the guide button for a couple seconds. Only to be brought to the notification center where you need to click on "Show details" under the achievement. To be brought to a different app which needs to load and sync(freaking sync, something that the 360 did automatically and instantaneously back in 2005. 8 years ago...) achievements. It's such a hassle now to view your achievements. On the 360 is was a simple hit on the guide button and you'd be automatically brought to the achievement in the mini-guide.

The achievement app itself looks good and it's great that we can finally see progress towards achievements. But I wish that every achievement name+unlock date was displayed and not only the one that has focus. In terms of swiftness and ease of use it's a big step backward from the 360 achievements section.

Can someone let me know if digital codes work in all regions??? I have a UK Fifa code I wanna trade and don't wanna give it to a US person if they can't use it (and vice verse for Xbox credit)

Had my Xbox One for about a week now. Quick impressions:

- Bumper buttons are weird but everything else on the controller is better.
- Automatic sign-in using Kinect = amazing. Ready at Home in 20s vs. 60s for the 360.
- UI is confusing and inefficient though I love that you can access any app without closing the game.
- Voice commands work nearly all the time for me, but I cannot get 'Xbox On' to work. Natural language processing would be nice.

- Dead Rising 3 is super fun and underrated graphically IMO.
- Ryse is boring but not as bad as I think it's made out to be. Absolutely gorgeous as well obviously.

It took a good year+ for ths Arcade to start building steam, although I admit putting a Geometry Wars or Robotron 2084 on there like the 360 would do wonders to alleviate the pain of the waiting game.

PS4 is 900p scaled. X1 is 720p scaled.

i wish the IR blaster would change my tv's input to the xbox one. it should be possible for it to do that right, via update, assuming you'd have the option to select which input the x1 is on?

Agreed, but if you play it on X1 do yourself a favor and don't play it on PS4. The difference in aliasing will really be apparent. The frame rate is also superior on ps4 but I didn't notice nearly as much as those jaggies. I'm also able to pick out soldiers better from a distance on ps4 vs the X1 version. I guess that falls in line with a higher resolution. Still, the X1 versions looks very nice.

See if your TV supports auto switching to the active HDMI port. Not ideal but could be a workaround for now.

Do you have a picture? My kinect shows three IR lights right next to each other in the middle of it and the Xbox Logo is light, just like the Xbox logo on the console itself, all the time.

Macros for the IR blaster would be really useful. Let's hope that MS expands the IR capabilities in future updates, right now it isn't capable of turning on my TV.
