Xbox One Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

AC4 has a harsh look to it with the sharpening filter and altered contrast. I've become accustomed to it on PS4; this is going to take some time getting used to.

Do we want to have a monthly OT that includes updates and release dates?

I can make the home tile be the central release for that month. And topical jokes in the side tiles. I think it could work. Sort of like the pick up threads.

I want whatever is allowed by the mods ;)

But a monthly recap thread or whatever would be cool though

I did not make the top 5 posters, for shame.
at this point I think a general thread is not needed anymore. If updates or news come out just make threads for it.

Speaking of that are there any update news? There are more bugs and glitch they need to fix plus some functionality "adjustment".

I just turned it on a few hours ago to buy and install Halo.
Hardly had time to enjoy it this month; exams, lots of dinner parties, "shopping" trip to London, work, etc.

For me it's clearing PC backlog and Steam sale. Halo is not very good, because with a controler it just get's very shallow :/

You switched from the PS4 version to the XB1 version?

But yes, that sharpening filter needs to go ASAP. At the very least tone it down. It's kinda obnoxious what it's doing.

Just saw this in a local store:

Was this known? I had no idea the order was coming to the one.

Finally finished Ryse, the last 2 chapters were great. Well the 2nd to last was probably the best out of the entire game and the last 15-20 minutes of the last chapter was pretty amazing. The game didn't deserve the negativity around it, was it on the short side and was the combat somewhat the same, yes. But it has some decent depth especially on harder difficulties and it was a great ride with a pretty good story that I enjoyed quite a bit.

Maybe not worth 60 bucks, but I would take it at 40 easily. Such a great game. Oh, and the MP is pretty fun.

Yeah, I have to agree. I didn't mind the combat at all, and I agree about the last 2 chapters being the best by FAR. Still not incredible in my opinion, but it's a far cry from the first half which seems really generic and boring. It's better upon replaying I found though, the first half that is.

Can't decide between Forza, Ryse, or Max next...

It's nice to have options though!

Forza will give you the best value. With the amount of events to race in you could play for like 50 hours and then there's multiplayer. Ryse is like going to a 6 hour movie. It's good but not worth that kind of cash.

Makes sense! Price is definitely the downside of going all digital. I imagine it will take ages for digital content to go on sale whereas Forza was already $40 on Amazon. I really want to be all digital with the Xbox One though so it is what it is.

Ryse is good but not full price good, $40 or less
Max was just okay in my opinion, terrible final boss battle
Forza 5 is the first Forza I've played and it's pretty good so far

Well, this thread has been a hoot. Glad there was one thread that was a shelter from the madness.

I think MS had a great idea doing hdmi in. The one has really become the center of the living room as far as entertainment goes. I believe this become more apparent over time.

I think it's gonna be a fun generation. I've decided to go all digital, for better or worse.

*grabs fiddle* Gentlemen, its been an honor

My xbox one isn't recognizing my kinect. I tried a bunch of different things people have suggest around the net.

Total fucking bummer :(

did you try a full shut down? --hold logo on box for 5 seconds until it shuts down and restart from controller?

otherwise as said, yes they will swap for new one pretty quickly

Try disconnecting the power cable and plugging it back in so you get the long green screen boot up. Happened twice for me with an unresponsive Kinect and that fixed it.

Yep I tried all of those things, none worked. I did the thing with MS support where they send one out first and then I send mine back so I'll have a replacement in 3-5 days (in a box they send with the replacement with postage paid). Not bad :) Had to give a CC# in case I didnt send the other one back - the price for a new kinect = $150 (if that wasn't known)

Took the wind out of my sails a bit but I obviously can still play games and 3-5 days isn't bad at all. Still enjoying the system.

Figure I should ask before the thread is closed...

Does anyone else's Xbox One make constant crackling noises when on the dashboard? Once a game loads up it seems to go away, but if I hope back to the dash it starts up again.

Is there anyway to get around the crappy Australian digital prices? I want digital as I hate swapping disks all the time but a game on disk locally can usually be found for around $79. Digital price from the Xbox store is $99.

I have no idea about how regions etc work with Xbox.

Games are all region free. Console/store no longer uses the region of your account and instead it's whatever you set it to in settings (can be changed at will). To answer your primary question the best way is probably to buy games on the US store

Flew home on holiday leave for two weeks, and took my PS4 with me. Miss my Xbox One already :(

Couldn't pack both, so I had to choose what was more portable.

PM'd bish to see if he'd approve a monthly OT.

If you set it up like the vita one, call it the Xbox One Games Thread for (whatever month) and the OP lists the games slated to come out... I don't see why that wouldn't be allowed. That's what us vita-gaf folks had to do when they shut down the OTs for the system.

Sad to see the launch thread come to a close. It's been a long ride Xbox One owners and 2014 is going to be AMAZING. TitanFall, Halo, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, the ID@Xbox games starting to flow in, plus all the multiplats.
