Well, what do we have here?
You must be a new arrival.
Let me guess. Fate of the Undead, right?
Well, you're not the first. But there's no salvation here.
You'd have done better to rot in the Undead Asylum....
But, too late now.

Welcome to Dark Souls Mafia, the Dark Souls of Mafia.
This is an open game and you can find information on all the roles appearing in this game below.
In the interest of brevity portions of flavor text have been removed from the role PMs listed here, as such standard rules about quoting role pms are in effect (as shown in the full rule listing below).

The roles in game are as follows.
  • Big Hat Logan
  • Solaire of Astora
  • Sirris of the Sunless Realm
  • Adherent of The Way of Blue x 10
  • Yuria of Londor
  • Darkwraith x 2
  • Chaos Servant

Firekeepers
You are aligned with the The Firekeepers (That means you're Town). You win when all threats to The Firekeepers have been eliminated.

Big Hat Logan - Hypnotist
In your journeys you have amassed a great deal of magical knowledge and ability and as such as a one time night action you may compel a player to divulge their alignment during the next day.
You may do this by sending Hypnotize: <TARGET> during any night phase.
The player will be compelled to clearly announce their alignment at least 24 hours before the end of the following day phase.
Hypnotism is a delicate process, however, if you are killed the same night you use this ability it will fail.

Solaire of Astora - Doctor
In your journeys you always enjoy a bit of Jolly Cooperation.
At night you can choose one player to engage in jolly cooperation assisting them in their battles and protecting them from their foes by sending the command COOPERATE: <PLAYER>.
If you are engaged in jolly cooperation with a player they cannot be killed or burrowed by the arsonist. Unfortunately this cooperation provides no benefit to you and you cannot cooperate with the same player two nights in a row.
Because time is convoluted in Lordran you can even cooperate with yourself, a future version of yourself returns to the past to cooperate. This temporal cooperation must still obey the rules of normal cooperation.
Praise the Sun.

Sirris of the Sunless Realms - Cop
In order to hunt your foes you first must be able to find them, to that end you have honed your ability to identify the nature of those you come across.
Each night you may investigate one player by sending the command INVESTIGATE: <PLAYER>.
You will either get the result BLUE if the player is aligned with The Firekeepers or RED if they are not.
Blessings of the Moon upon your Journey.

Adherent of the Way of Blue
Marked with the undead curse and lost in a strange land you have already encountered more horrors than you can count.
You hoped that joining the Way of Blue covenant would afford you some protection but you have yet to see assistance from a single Blue Sentinel.
You are beginning to think you might have to face these nightmares on your own.

Darkwraiths

You are aligned with The Darkwraiths (That means you're Mafia). You win when all threats to The Darkwraiths have been eliminated.

Yuria of Londor - Godfather
The magics you have developed as part of The Sable Church cloak you from your enemies, You will appear to be aligned with the Firekeepers if investigated.

Darkwraith - Goon
The age of fire has gone on too long, it has been unnaturally extended by those who would stoke it's flames with their very souls.
You know, however, of the Dark Soul in every human and with the help of Darkstalker Kaathe you will snuff out the flame and usher in the age of Man, ensuring your place as a Dark Lord.

Neutral

You are aligned with The Fair Lady (That means you're Neutral). You win when you are the last living player.

Chaos Servant - Arsonist
Each night you may burrow a sacred flame into another player by sending the command BURROW: <PLAYER> or you may ignite all players that have a sacred flame in them by sending the command IGNITE.
Furthermore, through your study of pyromancy you have attained some healing magics and the ability to turn your flesh into iron.
You cannot be killed at night.

Fundamental
1. All site-wide rules are also applicable here. Please do not tarnish this community.
2. Unless your Role PM explicitly allows you to do otherwise, discussion about this game is strictly confined to this thread.
3. Unless your role PM explicitly allows you to do otherwise, do not quote or posts screen-shots of any PMs or posts that were not made in this thread. Obviously this is a grey area, but please try and play sportingly.
4. Within reason, you are allowed to lie about any game material or game-related conversations that could conceivably have appeared outside this thread [such as the content of role PMs or private chats allowed by a role]. If unsure whether a lie is reasonable, please ask the game-runner.
5. Do not refer or discuss to player activity in other forum threads or life in general beyond the game.
6. The player list includes the preferred personal pronoun of each player. Please try to use the correct pronoun.
7. Please be nice to your fellow players. Mafia can be a tense experience, and occasionally aggressive play is useful, but remember this is game and that everyone should have fun.

Activity and Deadlines
8. Treat this game as a commitment. Remember that other players' fun is dependent on your participation; this game only works if you remain reasonably active.
9. If you do not post in this thread at least 10 times per Day Phase period without prior permission, you will be sent a PM requesting you respond immediately (a "prod"). If you do not respond to a prod by the end of the following Night Phase, you will be replaced.
10. If you need an extended period of absence for some other issues in life, please notify the game-runner by PM in advance. Leave of up to one Day and Night Phase (five days) is possible.
11. If you expect to be unable to post for a period of 7 days, please notify the game-runner by PM so that you can be replaced in good time - we're sad to see you go, but other players need to be able to continue to play.
12. Each Day Phase will last 3 days. Day Phases officially begin when the game-runner notifies players in the game thread, and end exactly 72 hours later (by NeoGAF post time-stamps).
13. Each Night phase will last 2 days. Night Phases officially begin when the game-runner notifies players in the game thread, and end exactly 48 hours later (by NeoGAF post time-stamps).
14. If a Phase ends and the game-runner has not received an action PM from a player with a relevant action, then that Phase will end with that that player making no action.
15. In the event of a day ending with no player having a plurality of the votes, then the game will proceed to the next night phase with nobody lynched ("no-lynch").
16. If a replacement is needed, they may PM the game-runner once to request the Night Phase in which they join is extended by up to 2 days, to allow catch-up time.
17. Game-runners may change the length of Phases at their discretion. However, they will inform players at the start of the equivalent Phase before (i.e., if Day 7 is set to be shortened, players will be no later than the start of Day 6).

Voting, Lynching, and Death
18. For your vote to count, it must be presented in the following format: VOTE: playername, via use of the highlight tag. It must also be in an entirely separate line from any other text.
19. To remove a vote from a player, you must present in the following format: UNVOTE: playername, via use of the highlight tag. It must also be in an entirely separate line from any other text. It is not necessary to unvote before casting new vote for a different player; unvoting is simply to remove a vote without casting a new one.
20. Players may use VOTE: No Lynch to end the Day Phase without a lynch ("No Lynch"). It must also be in an entirely separate line from any other text.
21. Misspelt votes will be accepted within reason; if the game-runner is unsure they will notify you and in the meanwhile discount the vote. Votes in broken tags will not count.
22. Once someone has received a strict majority (>50%) of the available votes, the day ends with the Lynch of that player or a No Lynch (whichever applies). Once this has happened, any further votes or unvotes that Phase will not be counted, and the Night Phase will begin shortly.
23. Some roles take place between the end of the Day Phase and the start of the Night Phase, so game-runners may allow a short period of time for this "Twilight Phase". Unless your role PM explicitly allows you to do otherwise, do not post during the Twilight Phase.
24. Once you are dead, you are dead: you may no longer discuss the game in ANY manner with ANY of the remaining players. Dead players may PM the game-runner one last message for the other players (a "Will"), which the game-runner will post on their behalf in the thread. The sole condition is that it contains NO game-relevant information, e.g. "Thanks guys for an excellent game!" is allowed, "My partner was John!" is not.

The Dead Thread
25. To allow dead players to freely discuss the game with other dead players, a secret thread will be created.
26. On death, a player can either opt to join the replacement list, or receive a link to the Dead Thread. They may not do both. If a player opted to join the replacement list, they may change their mind, but players who have a link to the Dead Thread cannot act as replacements.
27. The Dead Thread will also be made available to non-players, provided they have played in at least one GAF mafia game before in which they did not go inactive. These non-players will also be disbarred from the replacement list.

Other
28. Outside of votes and explicit allowances made by role PMs, the use of the highlight tag is strictly the game-runner's prerogative. Do not use it.
29. You may not put any active players in this game on your ignore list. If you have an active player on your ignore list, please remove them. Obviously this is on the honor system, but please don't do it, or joke about doing it.
30. Do not edit your posts. If you are a repeat offender, a replacement will be sought.
31. Do not use the email tags to hide extra content in your posts.
32. A list of the votes so far (a "Vote Count") can be requested by contacting any game-runner or game-tutor.
33. Game-runners reserve the right to add, remove, or modify existing any rules at any point, and enforcement may be applied retroactively. However, all players will be informed of changes, and changes will be consistent across games.
34. In general, do not try and exploit loop-holes in the rules.
35. Completed GAF games are often read by people thinking of signing up in the future. As such, please keep your avatar spoiler free - it should not allude to your role or alignment.
36. Night Actions will be accepted up to two hours before the Day starts. Missing actions will be decided at Moderator's discretion.

Special Game Rules
1. Player Roles are not Revealed upon death
1a. At the start of every Even Numbered Day Phase the number of dead Anti-Town (mafia and neutral) players is announced
2. Mafia is not allowed to communicate during the day.
3. Mafia communication at night is restricted to voting on kill targets
4. All kill sources are announced

Keep on keeping on.

Choose thy fate alone. Seize it with thine on hands. All the more, should thy fate entail such foul betrayal

I look forward to constantly hitting mental walls and always feeling like the game wants to kill me, just like real Dark Souls :D

I noticed an unclear situation with the Solaire of Astora role and have updated the role pm listed here to reflect that Solaire can in fact cooperate with himself.

Special thanks to fat4all for providing banner images for day starts

A shattered orb hangs low in the sky bleeding what little illumination it has left over a crumbling tower.
Ancient roots slither through broken stonework and yet despite its many failing walls the light outside cannot penetrate its depths. From the center of the tower a small, guttering flame casts dancing shadows out from the figures arrayed around it.
The breath of those in the tower forms in the air, in spite of the soft orange glow.
It is a weak flame that provides light but no heat. Perhaps it will return to the blazing bonfire it once was. Perhaps it will finally be snuffed out.

Day 1 begins

Day 1 ends in.

So this may be a controversial way to begin, but since we don't get immediate information from flips, but we do have investigative roles working for town, for once is a day one no lynch vote a more viable position?

Throwing it out there early but am also here for day 1 shitposting (to some degree, at least).

Hmmm.

Considering we don't get the number of dead anti-townies until Even Numbered Day Phases I think it would be best to still give it a go. Now if we started off the game where we got the number of dead anti-townies for Odd Numbered Days I'd say sure since we wouldn't be able to clearly get info from a Day 1 flip but I'd be more willing to at least try today than not at all, especially considering we won't get an answer for the Day 2 flip for a while ( if at all ).

That's true, and it's why I'm asking and not just voting - I think there's pros and cons - but what we will get tomorrow, hopefully, is the hypnotist, the cop, and hell, even the arsonist's result, which seems to mitigate it a bit. But I can't decide if it's worth it.

No lynch could be a viable option, but there is the flipside that no lynch would also give basically a free night for both scum and the arsonist to work on.

A no lynch doesn't give us much to work with. People aren't forced to take any stances and leave a voting pattern.

Especially the arsonist seems to be a danger to me in that regard.

As a note, the 100% open setup is going to change the meta of the game more. Don't expect scum or neutral to do fake PR claims, unless they are sure they are going to be lynched, and just try to fish for a town counterclaim in a suicide move.

I'm not sure how the flips not being directly revealed is going to change the game. There will be lot more uncertainty, especially if arsonist ignites, and kills multiple town and one scum, so that there is no certain information about who of the dead is which alignment. Same if town lynches 1 scum/arso and 1 town in space of 2 days, and then there is no certain information which one of the two was scum.
