That's exactly why we don't post Famitsu numbers at all. :p
But if it wasn't for the Famitsu chart we wouldn't know that Bleach DS sold 49,675 copies through February 12th. Way to ship an appropriate supply Sega! :lol

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention that DS crossed 6 mil sold and PSP crossed 3 mil sold this week. (Unless someone did and I just missed it.)

According to what I got, these are the up to date total sold to date numbers:

DS: 52,099 (6,050,854)
PSP: 27,430 (3,020,645)
GBASP: 5,553 (5,749,205)
GBM: 2,941 (450,016)
Xbox 360: 1,314 (94,539)
Xbox: 92 (473,214)

And these are from 2002 (since apparently people can't find good numbers from before that, and these all launched in Japan in 2001 and 2000):

PS2: 23,433 (11,631,266)
GC: 1,814 (3,184,221)
GBA: 105 (4,555,140)

If any of that is wrong (or someone can give me more accurate "sold to date" numbers for PS2, GC, and GBA -- or at least a close estimate of how much they sold between their launches and 2002), please tell me. :)

Someone did mention it, and I didn't bother double checking the rest of your post.

I am trying my hardest to come up with some kind of bet I can make on this game that does not involve a ban. GOD darnit. I would say give me a tag that makes me look like a loser, but...yeah.

If Brain Training becomes as big as Nintendogs...kill me. My zip code is 48197.

If Brain Training surpasses 500,000 sales in the US by the end of the year...just do something to me. Something that doesn't involve banning/furry porn/etc. God darnit

So who's gonna make sure that something get's done to PD? I'm not talented enough to find something to do to him.

The problem is, Nintendo has to do all the work in order to make sucessful the DS, meanwhile PSP goes by the legs of third parties. That's the big diference. Ok, when 30 millions of DS are sold, everybody go to make DS games... that's not fair.

OK, here. Let's say you're a developer. You have the DS and the PSP. The two systems have comparable third party sales. Don't quote me, but I think the DS is doing slightly better in the third party department... but it's close. Anyway, so you have comparable third party sales. But the DS has twice the userbase of of the PSP and, probably costs less to develop for. Would you choose the one with the larger userbase? I definitely would.

While I don't think it's a good thing that 3rd party sales for a system with a userbase of 6 million is comparable to a system with 3 million, I still think the DS is more attractive.

OK on a completely unrelated note. With second party games that nintendo publishes, do some of the companies developing them ever also makes games for third party publishers? I'm thinking of companies like Inis, and Retro.

Somebody else could probably give a fuller example, but Silicon Knights doing Twin Snakes for Konami comes to mind, so it's not unheard of.
