Well the 3DS's summer line up is becoming quite nice in Japan o_O.

So far we have:
6/11 - Rhythm Tengoku: The Best+
6/11 - DBZ: Extreme Butouden
6/18 - Popolocrois Harvest Moon
6/25 - Fire Emblem If
7/09 - The Great Ace Attorney
7/09 - Super Run for Money
7/11 - Youkai Watch Busters
8/27 - Dragon Quest 8 3DS

right?

That's what I'm remembering now

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Sorry, but DQVIII's announcement made me remind of something.

It's probably just winding down at this point but it's somewhat surprising.

I'm still not sure we should assume DQM is on 3DS. It's still noticeable that they haven't announced anything 3DS in a while, wouldn't be surprised if they are done with the platform after Bravely Second.

Done indeed, Oregano. Done indeed. :p

I'd say we should assume DQM is on 3DS because there's zero incentive to put out a second DQM on mobile (the first one is still insanely profitable and you don't replace service games without huge shifts in market dynamics anyway) and it's the only other platform that makes sense.

heard good things about the splatoon comg preorders, tracking higher than pikmin 3, xenoblade x, and mario 3d world at the same time frame.

I'll post an update about Comgnet stats / comparisons tomorrow, so we'll see where it sits now.

Well hey if someone asked me to guess the next SE game for 3DS I definitely wouldn't have guessed DQVIII anyway!

That depends when/if it is coming out though. 3DS is already slowing down.

I think they'll get it out on 3DS since they like showing up in popular genres and between Pokemon and Yokai Watch the iron is definitely still hot.

Like I don't think Square Enix has a reserved number of 3DS games because they feel the platform doesn't fit their strategy at all so much as they just don't have a lot of products they feel line up well for 3DS.

Looking through their announced line-up there aren't really any major headscratchers out there to me platform wise.

Not like they would stop development on a title because an unrelated game flopped just now.
Bravely flopping definitely hurts chances of getting a new Squeenix project on 3DS, but that install base can't be ignored for an IP as big as DQ.

Got answer just above my post.
Why OP is missing the table for hardware sales with Last week, Last year, ytd, ltd figures?

Xenoblade X did great wow. Puzzles and Dragons seems ok.
That marvelous report, did they expect unrealistic sales for the new Senran Kagura to make up for the losses of all those games (SK2, rock, magna) and that cancelled game? It's probably sold 100k already with a great sell through for the PS4. Hope they weren't unrealistic. IAVT seems poised for some success.

I haven't heard much about the neptunia. Has that sold in profitable and expected numbers? Seems to be quite less than usual.

Wouldn't it be 2016 at the earliest now? I would have thought SE would avoid big releases that late but then they are still making PS3 games and they could go cross gen if they really wanted to.

EDIT: Is there any chance 3DS takes the record for most million sellers in Japan?(I'm thinking no)

Hey ImageEpoch is finally officially bankrupt and oh man their debts
I haven't heard much about the neptunia. Has that sold in profitable and expected numbers? Seems to be quite less than usual.

It sold 30K copies in 2 weeks. On the one hand, that's just as much as its spinoffs and less than other mainline entries. On the other hand, considering this is a PS4 exclusive in Japan, it has really managed to retain its audience for the most part.
Anyway, they were aiming for 40~50K sales. I'm sure they'll get 40 eventually but not for a while.
I hope it's not too much of a disappointment.

Actually, with all these fiscal reports coming out, I've wanted to ask. Is IdeaFactory privately owned or something? I never hear anything about them.

Media Create finally updated their official site with last week's top 50.

LTD

[WII] Xenoblade (Nintendo) - 197.000

Xenoblade X will fail to reach that.

3ds looks like to have a pretty good lineup this year, especially with DQ8 on top of the likely top selling Youkai Watch 3 this year. So far Majoras Mask, Pheonix Wright, Fire Emblem if, YW3, YW Busters, Rhythm Tengoku plus and DQ8 seem to be the strongest contenders to chart in this years (console/handheld) top 10 selling games chart. Despite all the overhasty doom and gloom talk in the beginning of the year, the same as in the past few years when it came to 3DS. With Monster Hunter Stories and Snack World also 2016 looks like to have a good start. I´m looking forward to their E3 and "pre TGS" announcements.

It's a great line up, but hardware sales will continue to drop.

Marvelous didn't state what their sales target were, but yeah it's likely that they aimed a bit too high. Perhaps the success of their online game business somewhat clouded their judgment.

Even Kenichiro Takaki seemed to be upset with Marvelous' report based on his recent tweets. Also, he said that all the Senran Kagura titles have been profitable.

Famicom holds that record with 42 titles that crossed the million mark, closely followed by Nintendo DS with 36.

Nintendo 3DS currently has 17 million sellers, although this list is likely to grow in the months ahead with Youkai Watch Busters / 3, Dragon Quest VIII or Monster Hunter Stories. Then there is the new Level 5 cross-media project, the yearly Pokémon release or the next Dragon Quest Monsters title unless it is a remake like Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D or Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru to Ruka no Fushigi na Fushigi na Kagi.

Squeenix seems to like February (DQM2, DQVII, DQH), so a February release seems to fit the bill.

By the way, DQVIII might very well be the N3DS' very first system-seller, as long as:

- there's significant N3DS enhancements
- there's a nice bundle available at launch

Even if it's a remake, the DQ brand is quite strong, so this is a great opportunity to boost sales. Of course, it won't bring miracles and the N3DS isn't going to start selling 100k week even during off-holiday periods, but there's definitely potential.

I have to admit, they really took me by surprise with DQ8. Wasn't expecting it, and certainly not so soon (I mean, less than 4 months before release?).

So, what is L~A talking about?

I dunno, none of that was mentioned in the announcement thread.

??

You don't need a game to be N3DS exclusive to have N3DS enhancement.

I was simply speculating on the impact of DQVIII on sales, especially if it came to have major N3DS enhancements (to make peope upgrade.

If DQVIII doesn't have anything special on the N3DS, then people won't bother upgrading since there's already been quite a lot of DQ game on 3DS already. It'd certainly be a missed opportunity.

Now obviously, Nintendo has much more to gain than Squeenix here, but I doubt N3DS enhancements is something Squeenix would be unwilling to do.

Haven't been on as much lately, who are puzzle leaks and are they reliable?

The same blogger who posts the first day sell-through, post leaks some hours before the numbers come out. The problem is that he likes puzzles, and you have to guess what is saying.

I guess he is doing this to avoid problems with Media Create for leaking the numbers.
