I just looked at those kanji on the top left corner, it's written something about the limited version, too lazy to translate all of them ;)
That sticker indicates that it's a first print edition and includes a bonus item. Limited Edition has a different box art and is more expensive.

I want to know what Garage Nintendo are up to. They deserve every damn good thing that goes their way. Splatoon is glorious!

I'm pretty there will be a lot more new ideas from Nintendo in the future. Didn't they say last year that there were a lot of games being worked at in the garage?

Q1 and Q2:

1. Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Deluxe (3DS) [May 28, 2015].
2. Stella Glow (3DS) [June 4, 2015].
3. Alien Isolation (PS4/Xbox One) [June 11, 2015].
4. Persona 4: Dancing All Night (PS Vita) [June 25, 2015].

Maybe they should actually try to develop something before crying that packed games market is shrinking.

The updates to Mobius seem to work, but they don't last out the month. They need to figure out either how to make more engaging side activities for people to do between updates, or streamline the development process so they can get updates out more frequently (~every 2-3 weeks) while maintaining quality.

My understanding is that Mobius' updates are incredibly short lived and are all plagued by the same problem that plagues the product overall: short, repetitive, and quickly dulled (and completed).

I don't think you can fix that without sinking in a lot of extra dev time or money, and if it takes to long to produce the needed long-lived content, you'll lose the audience completely in the interim. Right now it feels like bandage, stop-gap solutions to try and keep the boat afloat (so to speak) but I don't think anything big will come in time if at all.

Sorry to butt in..:p

When it was actually announced at the press conference, it sounded like it was pretty much confirmed for NX. I also believe that it would not have been mentioned if both companies hadn't had prior discussions about the it being developed on the NX platform. Like you said, it is Dragon Quest.

Late to the discussion but to add to this. Nintendo has always had this weird hunger for Dragon Quest. As far back as the NES and SNES where Enix would reportedly get special treatment when it came to carts over other RPG companies. Whenever they had the chance they backed it or went after it and going as far a localizing Dragon Quest 9 themselves. I would be shocked if they didn't take steps to make sure they didn't lose it to Sony again after the last few announcements for Dragon Quest Heroes and Builders. If they didn't know about them that hopefully should have scared the crap out of them and hopefully pushed them to making what I feel would be correct decisions when it comes to the NX.

I know the announcement included a definitive announcement for NX before the backtracking but I can't get to excited by that because we still don't know what the NX is. For all we know it could be getting a version of the 3DS game. We can't take the announcement of Dragon Quest X for the NX either as a hint because it's on the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS as well.

Why does it say Wii Global sales: 115.2 million units on http://www.nintendo.co.jp/csr/en/report2015/smile/index.html?

The DS / 3DS / Wii U figures match those on the “Hardware and Software Sales Unit” page (updated more recently, “As of June 30, 2015”) but the Wii one is completely off (Hardware: 101.56 million units).

EDIT: see thread Nintendo 2015 Corporate Social Responsibility Report

That's a pretty obvious typo. It's supposed to say 101.52 million (which is the number from the end of FY 2014-15), but someone forgot to add that 0 when translating the document which is actually from the time Nintendo revealed their FY financial results in May iirc.

Splatoon will be the first new Nintendo IP that will cross 1 million in Japan after Tomodachi Collection for DS in 2009 and Wii Party for Wii in 2010.

Since it shows stability at its sales and has already passed half million maybe that million will come sooner than someone would expect.

I still remember that discussion about 500k by the end of the year, just a few weeks ago lol

We had many episodes before that.

Before first week sales there was discussion about the disappointing debut it would have, after first week sales there was discussion whether it would manage to hit half million LTD.

Strangely first successful new IP from Nintendo after 5 years isn't on 3DS but on Wii U.

Yup, that game really destroyed the prediction of pretty much everyone, even those who were the most optimistic.

I really want to see how it will do during the Christmas holidays.

While not really a new IP, Luigi´s Mansion 3DS is the first entry for a handheld and also the first to cross the million mark in Japan. 3DS surely has the best environment and it shows in overall software sales, but considering that Nintendo had an abundance of successful IPs on Wii and especially on DS that warranted many sequels with now considerably increased need of resources, I can´t say that I´m too surprised.

5 years with disappointments and failures are many for something like Splatoon to be considered business as usual for Nintendo.

The usual blog updated but I'm not sure it refers to Animal Crossing or it's a post for gaming.

I think it gives 600k (2 movies of 300) but better wait for confirmation from others

I esitate to believe such number, it'd be insanely huge for an Animal Crossing spin-off (not actual brand new main iteration). It'd destroy all other AC's debuts, except for New Leaf itself.

I talked about the allocation of Nintendos limited resources, obviously new IPs aren´t created out of thin air. Wii and DS had an abundance of succesful Nintendo games which like I said earlier warrented sequels. On top of that they also don´t shy away from developing niche titles like Steel Diver or "revivals" such as Pilotwings, Kid Icarus and Luigis Mansion.

Taking also into account that new IPs are generally created by either new studios or meant as an replacement of fallen from grace IPs it just isn´t realistic to expect an abundance of new IPs, when you actually have an abundance of very successful IPs, even less when you consider that all these mentioned projects have drawn most available development resources and time. Not everything managed to keep up with their previous success due to several market changes, but at the time they were greenlit they were more than justified. The success of Splatoon surprised a lot of people and it´s even more remarkable considering all the odds it had to overcome.

This is fine and all but Nintendo had, for a period, definitely overvalued (and ironically ultimately devalued for themselves in worth to their audience) sequels. Sequels are a safe and easy product: people know what it is, there is an audience that you can potentially grow, and you could even possibly build it off of a previous game.

Now that isn't to say its just Nintendo, the whole industry values sequels (or 500$b marketing campaigns and/or lying) to sell products reliably. Some of our more recent "new" IP are lipservice to established franchises whether that be GTA, Halo, or Souls. Of course, we also have games like NMS (if it ever comes out), Rime, BOXBOY, Ori, and others from all sorts of places but they're all "indie" sized or outright indies "bought and paid for" by the larger companies or (like BOXBOY) were probably on a shoestring.

So looks like the mysterious Koei-Tecmo game is something related to Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan). Most likely PS4/3/V (PlayStation only according to that "scan"... I believe it's magazine/manga sleeve, though).

http://blog.livedoor.jp/od3/archives/52128035.html

That's a pretty big deal, given how the 3DS game sold without being a stellar game. No doubt that whatever KT cook up, it will be significantly better.

I could swear the gamecube had more than one million seller.

Yeah, One Piece and Hokuto no Ken by Koei both sold really well. No reason why Attack on Titan can't do better than HnK (550k+).
