Hi everyone. We're up and running on XF 2.0. The proper site design isn't quite ready for deployment just yet, so we're on a quick and dirty placeholder for now. We should have that sorted out later today hopefully w/ light+dark options and a gaffier look, so please don't mind the current visual state of things too much.

New features:

-Responsive design across desktop and mobile
-Robust notification options (who quoted me et al)
-Vastly improved search
-Mention system - just use @ plus username in your post to direct a comment their way, e.g. Gromph Gromph is a hero!
-Reporting system (REPORTED!!! <--don't do this please)
-Follow system to build your own content feed
-Likes for improved user-to-user feedback and signal:noise in threads
-Full HTTPS encryption support
-High resolution avatar support
-2FA option
-Post draft auto/manual saves

Lots more to follow. We'll get the proper site skin up shortly and continue from there. Now that we're no longer stuck on a depreciated platform we can rapidly iterate and add new features.

If you have any feature requests, feedback, or questions regarding the update, ask away. Thanks.

Just made a post to reply to a thread and it says it's awaiting moderator approval, what's that about? Otherwise seems great so far.

looks a lot like IGN forums... lets just hope it doesn't run like them on the backend.

love having the like system though

I'm big on the idea of improved signal:noise ratio in threads, but is a like system really the correct way to do that? If Reddit (and to a lesser degree Facebook) are anything to go by then it's going to affect the way people post, and not in an exclusively positive way.

Take Reddit as an example: In a lot of cases, the karma system causes that place to boil down into people being fake-nice / fake-helpful or pulling goofs to karma whore their way into making the numbers go up. It feels like there's an unspoken sense of "be sugary sweet or get dogpiled", which isn't healthy for discussion.

TL;DR Please don't let GAF turn into a circlejerk of wordsalad lulz and insincerity. That's all I ask.

Outside of that, all of this looks nice and modern and new. Being able to read new posts while typing without refreshing or installing a browser extension feels like living in the future!

Really happy with the change man. Fluid and responsive and I appreciate the “like” button. I got used to that on another forum and it comes in handy when you want to thank someone when a response is not necessary. Looking good so far.

I'm loving the speed and overall feel of the forum, but this placeholder skin is a bit...meh. I can't wait for the light skin to become available. Other than that, great work on the upgrade. It went a lot faster than I thought it would.

Looks like it's stock Xen with a orange and black stylesheet. They said it's a placeholder though?

The only thing I don't like but I could be missing it completely.

Is that there doesn't seem to be a way to open a thread on the last page automatically.

I was your first "like", EvilLore :)

The features are all welcome additions.

I don't really like how quoted images show only the top part of the image rather than a small preview of the full image.

I don't get it... where's the button to "like" a post?
Bottom-right.

Also this new quote system is kind of weird. Is there a way to quote one person directly without having to click the button on their post, then select it via the multi-quote box?

Edit: Oh I see, it's this new-fangled Reply button. Whatever will they think of next.

Any chance the “refresh page” button at the bottom of the page can be integrated into this system? I miss it already. :(

Hmm, so the like system is per-account and not per-post. That seems like it would bias toward more veteran members.

I get that the idea is to be able to gauge the probable quality of a given post at a glance without having to read it (though that's a reductive behaviour pattern in and of itself), but new people are going to be at a disadvantage even if their post content is really good. It's also not going to be accurate for long-term shitposters that occasionally pull a sick mic drop and make the peanut gallery go wild.

That and you can edit a given post after it receives a like, possibly misconstruing the intent of the liker. I guess you should be replying if you want that much nuance though.

+1 for this, it seems that the system supports updating without refreshing since it'll notify you if someone posts while you're typing and asks if you want to show it, but I'm still finding myself F5ing and scrolling back to the bottom.

Also, does this system support the old function of highlighting your posts and quotes in a different colour so they are easy to spot?

Mr. Grumpy

Grumpy see, Grumpy do.

Yep, that worked.

Just post the url directly for embedded YouTube videos.

Missing:
Button to jump to last thread page from home.
Buttons to scroll page all the way up/down

At least that's from my first 2 minutes with the new design

Holy smokes batman. It even works in quotes!

I can't see a 'collapse' button after expanding it to show the whole thing though, that'd be nice to have.

Not sure about scroll down, but there is definitely a button to scroll up on mobile. Floating on the right bottom corner.

Not on my phone :(

EDIT: there it is, it kinda pops up and disappears. Works.
But the # of pages and the button to jump to last page/post directly from home has to be restored

I can already feel the like system poking at part of my brain that responds to skinner box techniques. Send help.

Just a heads up. On iPhone, when I type a message the keyboard covers the text input window, so you can’t see what you are typing. If you scroll the window above it so you can see, it reverts back to behind the keyboard as soon as you start typing.

Not sure if it's everyone but apostrophes are broken it seems. Sometimes it's a box and sometimes it's some jumbled code.

The avatar editor suggests a 400x400 minimal size, but when uploading a file with that exact resolution it is cropped.
Also there must be some weird caching, since I've uploaded different versions of my avatar, and it doesn't display the latest one.

I saw this too, it looks like you're supposed to be able to pick which area is cropped by dragging the preview but saving it hasn't actually changed anything.

Mine is 91x100 but it still crops the bottom. I'm going to re-do it in 400x400 later, but might want to look into why it's doing that crop at the bottom.

Mine is 400x400 and it seems OK, it seems to have just squared yours off. Are you able to make a square version of that avatar?

Yea, this is a fantastic update! Currently browsing from an iPhone and things are smooth and snappy on my end.

I’m not sure how I feel about the like-system. A bit hypocritical since I just liked something a moment ago but yea...others above have brought up some valid concerns. We shall see. If anything I’ll limit my use of it.

Been on GAF for ~6 years now. Longest I’ve been active on any site...ever. Glad it’s weathering the storm. Everything happens for a reason. Cliched as hell but I like to believe it’s true haha.

Please come up with something other then the Cheap Ass Gamer Halloween color scheme.

Everything else looks great.

I'm getting this same issue
