I think I started with the lotion on the third day. The physical instructions they provided me with state putting lotion when it starts scabing, when I went online to their website they say to let it air for 2 days then apply lotion for the next two weeks.

Skin is starting to peel, just hope it looks good after these two weeks.

I'm also getting pretty used to it as is and am not sure if I should add the color that I was going to do.

Love the pieces, all. Here's my most recent from last year:

So it did scab in one spot, and the color did fade. Kinda sucks, I looked up reasons for scabing, and since I feel I took good care of it I believe it was the artist. I read that if the artist uses too much pressure it can cause scabing, and the spot that scabbed was the most tender and red/inflamed area after I took the bandage off.

I guess I should have read how to deal with scabbing specifically, since after reading up on it today it said to avoid moisturizing it so that it would dry up and fall off faster.

Partly my fault and I feel partly theirs, maybe he can give that spot a touch up when he does the color.

Got it done last Monday. It's scabbing pretty hard and I'm fighting my damnest not to peel it off. It's also crazy itchy. Must resist urge to scratch.

Thanks so much! I love the balance of ink and negative space with the wolf in the tree. It's very bold and attractive!

I really want a Superman tattoo, been shopping around for a cool, minimal design but haven't come up with anything that I like more than just the S shield. Any suggestions?

Also I'm thinking I'll stick it under my collarbone on the left side, just saying :)

This is my new tattoo also disclaimer it is not finished yet but it will be soon enough and if you are wondering who or what it is it's Malthael from Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls.

When it is done it will cover up my old tattoo he will also do the tattoo above to match it beneath the other one off course but so far i am very happy with this.

Oh geez, is this a good place to ask this? Didn't seem worthy of it's own thread.

I'm looking at getting my first tattoo within the next month or so. Looking to get half a sleeve of what is essentially a piece of Stanley Donwood's 20ft long London Views. You might know this better as the album art for Thom Yorke's The Eraser.
The full span of London Views.
Here's a section from another of his works, Lost Angeles

Now I have seen photos of someone with a very similar tattoo to what I am looking to get. Almost identical.
The difference, though, is that while their tattoo shares the waves and clouds of the artwork, the buildings and people caught in the flood seem to be original work, I'm guessing by the tattoo artist. I can't find them anywhere in London Views or Lost Angeles.
I'm still looking for the artist who I'll contact about the tattoo, but when I do, I'm not sure how to approach it. This is my first tattoo, and I'm not sure about how artists feel about replicating work. I imagine it would be rude to simply ask him to copy the tattoo I linked to, so I don't plan on that.

But what should I tell him/her? That I'd like to keep the waves and clouds how they are (though modifying them to fit around my arm will probably be necessary), but that they are welcome to create their own buildings / structures / people in boats? OR is even asking them to replicate the clouds and waves of the original artwork too much? I'm just worried about coming off as rude or inconsiderate. I'm sure most artists don't get into the profession to copy other people's work, and would rather create their own. But I'm also worried about asking them to create their own buildings for the work if they can't replicate the style well enough.

Just ask around. Who cares if they get offended. Just make sure they are actually good. Based off how many studios still have the pick one from the wall options I doubt finding someone willing to copy artwork will be hard. Artists like mine can't draw many styles and copies photos and uses Photoshop to design.
That style image is going to show flaws if the artist isn't good with line work.

A good tattooist will take the time to discuss all this with you.

In my experience, replicating work isn't a problem. Doing an interesting piece is far more important, even if it's not 100% their own creation. I think anything which challenges them beyond just floral or tribal pieces, or your usual wall chart stuff, is going to be interesting enough for the artist to enjoy doing. As the poster above said, them being a good tattoo artist is your only real concern.

In your situation I would obviously take the designs with you and talk to him or her about what you want doing with the style, any specific buildings you want in there etc. You might bounce ideas off each other and come up with some really cool and unique stuff.

Most good artists won't want to replicate a piece unless it's by a well known tattoo artist like Sailor Jerry or something like that. Bringing in a picture never hurts, I do that almost every time, but then I tell them to do their own interpretation and take on it. Usually it's much different, but I like it just the same.

Sorry for potato pic.

Not really new, but this is my most recent. It's actually a cover up of some tribal mess an apprentice did. I didn't go in looking for a koi, but she did an awesome job covering it up. Just told her to have at it, pretty much.

Sometimes I worry it's a little too effeminate but it's soo much better than what it covered. Was very happy with the way she hid part of the old tat in the shadow over the flower.
Wish I took a before pic..

Talked to her about sleeving it out at some point, but tattoos are fucking expensive. Maybe someday.

Keep searching for my next thing but can't come up with something specific :/ I want a Souls related tattoo, maybe a bonfire with some level design, maybe Snuggly, maybe one of the memorable bosses, maybe a mashup of different things, and I want it kind of as a half/quarter sleeve on my upper arm and maybe chest area, similar to this

So yeah, serious question, if there's an artist in here who'd be able to design/draw something here, I'd be interested in talking.

This seems like most active tattoo thread so I'll bump it.

I'm getting sleeve done in January or February and I've been asking and reading around a bit and just stumbled about something that worries me. It is recommended to keep your tattoo out of sun - forever. Few minutes under with protection is fine judging by what I've read but you should always have it covered up.
This seems very hard to do really, especially living in a sunny and warm country and being on the sea side for months.

Sleeve will be black with shading, I'd be fine with always covering it up with protective cream etc when exposing it to sun but it seems unrealistic to keep it covered even when at beach etc so if there isn't a way to protect it and it will fade I am starting to have doubts now :\

I have a sleeve and applying sunscreen with a high SPF to the tattoo is fine.

I'm ginger with very pale skin, I have a black and shaded half sleeve and I stupidly got sunburnt a few weeks after it was done, tattoo was absolutely fine. 2 (3?) years on and I've regularly had it out on display throughout summer without any protective covering and it's not faded at all. Inks are pretty good these days.

Thanks, I'd make sure the artist was using the BEST ink available too, but people on another forum really freaked the fuck out of me with what they were saying.

Oh, hey. I didn't know there was an ink community thread. Might as well get in.

It's been about five years since I got one. I got all four in a period of about two years after waiting around 10 years past legal age. Nothing ever struck me as good enough for permanence until that time. Not sure if I'll ever get any more. Again, nothing has really struck me as tattoo material.

I didn't mention before, I'm getting Greco-Roman themed sleeve, gonna be awesome. Talked to artist and it's fine and when time comes he and I will work on final design.
Bulking atm (gym, putting on muscle) and don't want to get it while I'm still "small", as I plan on adding a lot more weight.

Query for those of you London and UK-based:

I've finally settled on my fourth tattoo design and I'm looking for a tattooist that specialises in single needle (i.e. very fine line) tattoos. The common reference point for this style is Dr Woo in LA. However I can't seem to find anyone in London or the UK as a whole who seems to specialise in this style of tattooing.

Any suggestions / recommendations?

Help me GAF; you're my only hope.

You're in luck. I know a guy. Fred.

Not only is he one of the best tattooists I've ever seen, but he's also a really awesome dude, friendly, professional, makes you feel totally at ease, and gentle. Least painful tatt I've had.

But anyway, I'll let his work speak for itself.

Thanks for that! Heard good things about The Family Business (I have got all of mine so far at The Circle).

His art is incredible but the portfolio on the site is pretty limited and there are no examples that seem to show a style more like the single needle design I have. I'm not sure that what I want and his style quite match-up.

Cheers anyway; the search continues!

Got this about two weeks ago

My tattoo guy had fun stories about this, one customer got it done on the day and hour of the Zelda BOTW announcement, and he (the artist) was like "That's a great idea to do it today, did you plan it for this moment since they announced they'll show the game today?"

Customer who was getting the tattoo said
"what game"

yup

To be honest the only thing I even bother making sure I put suncream on is my tattoos, as long as you use a decent sunscreen it should be fine. The quality of the tattoo definitely also matters.

Generally I can't recommend bamboo tattoos enough. Doesn't scab, heals in 3 days and the ink doesn't seem to age at nearly the same rate as needle. (I'll try get a decent photo of my bamboo sleeve up later)

Got this about two weeks ago

Love the colours on this.

Hey all, (I also posted this in the tattoo and piercings thread but that seems to be dead, so I'll repost here to see if this is one is more active)

Just wanted to know if any of you has had experience with getting a leg "sleeve".

I'm planning on getting one in the coming 2 months (they say mine will take about 4 sessions and I'm planning to have 14 days between each session.
Just a reference for the placement/style of my tattoo;
japanese-fish-and-flower-leg-tattoo.jpg

And something along these lines for the colors;
koi-fish-tattoo-designs-13.jpg

From tattoo pictures I've seen online I think a black koi with 2 colorful flowers will make the tattoo look better.
I feel if I would make the koi bright orange the tattoo would be a bit messy compared to having a black fish and two brightly colored lotus flowers next to it.
Especially with the black background and a wave design. I like the idea of a black koi with highlighted edges like in the image above or something along the lines of the following tattoo;
genkotattoostudio.jpg

Just wanted to know;
- Has anyone here gotten a leg sleeve tattoo and how long did it take you?
- How much time did you keep between sessions and how did the recovery go?
- I work as a teacher so I'm on my feet most of the time at work, how much will that affect healing/pain rates?

After two years of thinking about getting my first tattoo I am finally pulling through. I am from a travellers family, my grandparents went on holidays when they were young and left for Switzerland two weeks after WW2 had ended. They always brought this small St. Christopher medallion with them which my mother gave to me over 3 years ago.

I looked at loads of websites and visited lots of tattoo shops and I've decided to get one done in the center of Amsterdam at this artist :
https://www.instagram.com/danielselleck/

I visited him yesterday to talk things through and we decided that I can come and take a look at his design on the 19th of May, the 26th would be the day that it'll get real.

It'll be put on my calf but I was wondering what I can expect.

I'll be back when it is done :p

Like I said a while ago, I was getting my first tattoo and after 3,5 hours it came out even more perfect than I expected.
The best part of the story is that I found 260 Euros that day so it cost me even less! :D

I'm talking with a tattoo artist about a half sleeve concept that might turn into a full sleeve. This will be my first tattoo. I'm all about going deep into something when I do it, so I've been thinking about this for at least a few years now.

Fading definitely worries me. Not sure how it'll look. I'm a pretty pale dude. I can't tan at all. Not sure if lighter skin is better or worse for a tattoo. But I know once I get a sleeve I'm going to be hyper conscious about applying sunscreen for the rest of my life.

I just got my first tattoo and fading is a part that will happen but maybe you can get a touch up in a while?
