November 2014 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes December 9th

I think its safe to say if Sony has any PR for black friday they're probably saving it for PSX, maybe.
They'll probably have something for November in total; why just stop at Black Friday when the whole month is wrapped up?

Granted no numbers; they'll maybe just hint to it and I'm thinking they'll save new WW numbers until early next year.

Actually, I'll do it now so I won't forget.

Going with 769K PS4 and 839K XB1 now.

XB1 pulling out a gap less than Sony pulled in September or October would be a good result for Sony I think, given the price gouging being done by MS and the relative lack of actual price drops by Sony. MS will still trumpet any win but I doubt internally head be happy about it.

Maybe MS are just waiting for PSX for any tyoe of announcement.

Yeah! They are waiting. What if Sony during PSX conference says to public : during the Black Friday we were "Numero Uno".

Well, they were No.1 @Amazon, Best-Buy, Walmart and Gamestop and it lasted about 2-3 days.

Midnight Club: LA (x2 for PS3/360).

This game sold well? I always kind of assumed it did poorly, like it was one of those games that showed a serious decline in interest in the franchise. Wonder why Rockstar doesn't revisit those games then.

It sold very well.

Of course, games like Call of Duty sold much better than it...but we're talking about the best-selling 'racing' games, so they're on a different level.

Sometimes developers just get tired of working on a franchise.

It's not unprecedented. For example, Bungie got tired of working on Halo despite Halo selling very well.

Looks like Rockstar San Diego just got tired of working on Midnight Club and wanted to focus on Red Dead Redemption.

I see you've got your hopes up mighty high. Hopefully they aren't shattered when NPD comes.

Personally lack of PR from a company that's been pretty boisterous w/ it over the month and in the past, should be telling you something a bit unpleasant on their end. But we'll see how things shake out.

No way.
Xbox One is number 1 on Amazon, PS4 is number 32. It's maybe the lowest ranking for PS4 since it's launch. I think people are underestimating Microsoft. Like I said earlier in this thread, we might witnessing the start of a new trend, at least in the US.

Hourly charts, and the Destiny bundle is right behind it at #34.

Monthly charts say:
  • #3 AC Unity Xbox One Bundle
  • #17 GTAV PS4 BF Bundle
  • #20 Standard PS4
  • #56 AC Unity Xbox One Kinect Bundle
  • #65 Destiny White PS4 Bundle
  • #70 COD Xbox One Bundle
  • Missing - SO White Xbox One bundle

Seems pretty random, so we don't know of any trends right now, and it is only Amazon.

One thing for sure however. Microsoft can potentially win against the PS4 in the US with a lower price+a free game.

PS4 was #1 during Black Friday on Amazon, Best-Buy, Wal-mart and Gamestop charts. Understand now? And it lasted 2-3 days.

Just imagine how absolutely atrocious MS' numbers would be without these crazy deals.

It's at 31 now. If anything MS hopefully sent Amazon ample amounts of that bundle, b/c it was still something else to see that GTA5/TLOU bundle sell out in mere hours and MS's production pipeline is more or less the same as Sony's.

Very possible MS just took units from other markets and sent them back to the U.S tho; conceding the globe for a chance in one region. I guess it could work but MS better hope the market for core consoles doesn't contract heavily here or that's their ass.

The Xbox One BF price started early Thursday, PS4 late Thursday/Early Friday. We also can't say who won purely on online markets, as most people go to stores on BF, and some deals were in store only IIRC, such as Wal-Mart's Xbox One MCC bundle.

Indeed. Unless you can say with certainty that #3 is more than #17 and #20 combined, you cannot say that Amazon sold more XB1s than PS4s.

I expect big numbers for the PS4/XBONE - it took a lot of self control to not buy one of those bundles on Black Friday.

Before black Friday, PS4 was sitting at the #14 spot while the XB1 was sitting at the #10 spot. It would suggest the gap wasn't that big before the launch of Black Friday.

Black Friday 2014 sounds like it was something of a letdown compared to past years; I think I heard somewhere that profits were down 11% compared to 2013. I have no doubt both consoles sold well, but it also seems like neither cracked a million. I don't think either system is going to claim a knock out victory over the other.

Well there is no way Xbox One was making a profit, so that shouldn't say much about performance for it.

This. Profit clearly wasn't in mind for MS this year. Not with those bundles and price cuts. The goal was to have just one month were they could claim the number one spot here in the US and maintain the marketshare which they fought hard for last gen.

I agree that it looks like before Black Friday, XB1 sold more. It is also clear that XB1 ACU bundle sold more than either PS4 standalone or PS4 GTA bundle on Amazon.

But the gap could have become bigger or smaller during BF, as we know neither the difference in sales between #10 and #14 nor between #3 and #17+#20.

IIRC, it was PC Data that released the weekly charts. NPD purchased them, and ended the releases.
PC Data yeah.
Well this shows it is possible to track weekly sales in the USA. If PC data was doing it, why can't the NPD, who purchased them?

This is not a question for Aqua (although she can answer if she wants). I feel like she's been defending or speaking on behalf of the NPD so much lately.

GfK does a wonderful job with weekly reports. If GfK can do it, there's no reason why NPD shouldn't be able to as well.

I agree...NPD not releasing weekly sales reports to all clients is stupid. They need to get with the times.

If XBone were able to outsell PS4 in the UK, I don't see why we are even debating the US results where the price disparity is even more so.

I'm pretty sure price gouging isn't what Microsoft was doing.

Wait how have MS been price gouging?

Edit: Lol beaten.

Thought it would be fun to put the 8th gen. console sales in perspective as NPD approaches.

Some interesting facts:

The PS4's highest selling month - 1,138k units
The X1's highest selling month - 909k units
The WiiU's highest selling month - 481k units

The PS4's lowest selling month - 187k units
The X1's lowest selling month - 77k units
The Wii U's lowest selling month - 29k units.

This data of coarse come courtesy of those on here who have been willing to share it.
Thanks!

Still no Best Buy impressions?ㅠㅠ I think Shogun's statement about "neither selling out" means no million+, but I wanted a little more information before placing numbers in. I will give it until tomorrow to see if anything comes out of TGA/PSX, but silence tells me that neither hit whatever target they set for themselves...

Looking at the Yearly sales on Amazon it looks like the ACU bundle actually really cleaned house there (and is continuing to do so).

In 1 month, the ACU bundle went to rank #19 for the whole year, well ahead of the Destiny bundle which probably by itself sold more than 500.000 units in the US in Sept/ Oct (Rank #30).
For comparison, the PS4 GTA V Bundle is "only" at the 75th place in the yearly ranking.

Current 2014 Amazon rankings in Videogames

#4- PS4 $399
#19 - XB1 ACU bundle $349
#30 - PS4 Destiny Bundle $449
#75 - PS4 GTA 5 Bundle $399
#87 - XB1 + Kinect $499
#93 - XB1 + Kinect + TF $499

I really thought there wouldn't be more than 100-200k unit difference... But we might be looking at a 300k unit difference easy here...

That's with December now as well. With only November I'm very certain it was behind the Destiny bundle and ahead of the Titanfall bundle. I think that SKU sold 350-400k judging by Amazon rankings.

for November (keep in mind this includes November 30th and doesn't count preorders from before November 1):

#2-XB1 ACU bundle
#11-PS4 GTAV bundle
#31-regular PS4
#48-PS4 Destiny bundle
#79-PS4 LBP3 bundle
#82-XB1 ACU Kinect bundle
#100-XB1 CoD bundle

If only MS had ample supply for the CoD and White bundles. IF ONLY.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
no black friday pr from sony at their event

...Right, they didn't talk about sales at all. Hashimoto's enthusiasm made me forget about it.

Time to start being worried for overall numbers next week?

actually the playstation head said "fastest selling console of all time"

Which would mean that's it still above the Wii at this point in time, I would think.

We might need one of the sales gurus to correct me, but after the September numbers for Wii (which PS4 was very slightly ahead) the next numbers update didn't come until January. If so, Sony is ahead of the Wii since September, but they won't know if they still are the fastest come next month. Wii is just Shipped numbers, so Sony may still be able to do it WW.
