I didn't even know that the PPA had an App. Sounds cool. But saying "look at the app" is a poor excuse to remove parking holidays. BTW I also didn't even know that Wed and First Friday were parking holidays.

I used to take advantage of it a lot when my wife and I commuted together to NJ. We'd come across the Ben Franklin and park near Chinatown or try to find something in Rittenhouse on Wednesdays and do dinner. I don't use it much anymore, but it's always been nice to have. I got the app a while ago but keep forgetting to use it. I don't really park in CC that often, usually only if I have to stop for something on my way home from work.

The PPA serves a big purpose! It's the patronage job machine given to the Republicans to keep them and their cronies placated so they don't organize actual resistance to the Democratic powerbrokers.

This sounds like a joke but it's 100% true.

I'd be happier if they could run on schedule for once. The MFL was brutal this morning. It's literally almost impossible to get on at 2nd Street when there are delays.

I do feel bad for people using tokens since stations are transitioning to the new turnstiles. At Cecil B Moore there is always a long line since people are trying to use the single token turnstile or go to the attendant. I've seen quite a few people miss trains because of the backups.

Technically they can ticket (and I think impound?) Uber and Lyft drivers... but they won't, outside of very rare circumstances.

Still job hunting, had a couple IT interviews which were promising. What sort of jobs do you guys recommend for someone inexperienced in IT who wants to get started? I really want to get this Help desk job at the Philadelphia Contributionship down Old City.

Mmm both of those are pretty good. Movie theater pretty close, lil mini mall(Andorra shopping center), houses are affordable. Don't go to my old place of work tho worst hospital ever ugh

If you want to replicate the Brooklyn feel, look at Fishtown. But I think the best neighborhood in the city is Queen Village/Bella Vista if you can afford it and can deal with the parking

Yo! PM your resume. I work at 4th and Market and I know we are hiring for help desk support, I think it's a Tier II spot and you'd need a strong networking background but I can see if you want?

Also, Comcast Business is ALWAYS hiring for Help Desk in Horsham. ALWAYS! Its kinda out there but there's free cable, 3 months of training before they put you in the call center and they give away the best prizes I have ever seen at a job. The Cons are its the Call Center for Comcast Business, and people HATE Comcast. It will make your resume look better if you can last a year at that place.

Born and raised in BK, trying to get away from the BK feel!

When I found out they had a Fete Sau & Barcade automatically scratched it off my list of hoods.

West Philly, Market St to Baltimore Ave. between 52nd and 40th street. Not that expensive relatively speaking and still fairly active without being Brooklyn-ish (Stores actually close at a certain time and there's not bunch of people outside all night on a random Tuesday like it is whenever I'm in Brooklyn)

If you want the Brooklyn feel, as mentioned try East Passyunk, Fishtown or Northern Liberties.

If you want something slower and more residential try Fairmount/Spring Garden or Fitler Square.

If you want something very affordable try Francisville or Callowhill.

If you want neighborhoods with the best balance of shit to do and nice quiet residential I'd look at Bella Vista, Society Hill, or Washington Square.

Anyway, I think you're going to like it in Philly. I haven't met a NYer who didn't love the city, to be honest. You're making a good choice.

Right now the most important thing is easy access to Bala Cynwyd since my wife won't be getting a car for awhile but we're trying to sign a short term lease in Manayunk/Roxborough and once we're settled in branch out to other neighborhoods.

I was going once a week over the summer to visit while my wife was working out there and loved it!

We're both in our 30s and basically chill at home and try to avoid going out to bars/partying and usually just go out to restaurants for dinner/brunch.

The most important thing for us is having access to restaurants and maybe a local dive bar.

Edit: What's the job market like out there?

What length of time is an acceptable commute time? You can get to Bala from almost anywhere in Center City in about 45 minutes via public transit. It's faster from Manayunk/Roxborough but those neighborhoods have a lot less to offer and you'll feel more cut off from CC. Bella Vista,Washington Square and Fairmount/Spring Garden seem like nice choices based on your age and habits. They have better restaurant access, shopping access, etc. Once you get a car the commute from CC to Bala is a lot faster and you won't hit a ton of traffic since it's a reverse commute.
