Mass Effect: Andromeda |OT| Ryders on the Storm

It's a recent Bioware problem, the mechanics are solid but let down by the encounter design because of the open-world. A lot of the random combat zones are template copy-paste with "a wild dropship appears!"

Really contemplating this at 29.99 ugh lol

Pretty worth it at that price, I think, especially if you like the Mass Effect games. I mean I don't feel any regret whatsoever for my $60 purchase, so maybe I'm a bit biased.

My own advice is that the first 10-15 hours or so are probably the worst of the entire game, so bear with that a bit and you'll get some good shit. Not saying the first 10-15 are horrible, just the worst of it.

Yeah, and then your choices are to end it quickly by running them over in a largely unsatisfying hit and run collision which doesn't kill them so you need to do it two or three times, or get out and do it more slowly via powers, or most likely drive away bc its not really worth it at any point tbh.

i'm amazed that anyone'd think andromeda's might be getting dlc, at this point. i'm guessing that anyone left from the project's been busy enough just working on the patches...

that there was never a season's pass pretty much says it all :) ...

Just because Schreier writes something doesn't make it true. The DLC like Citadel was not developed by the main team. Dragon Age Inquisition didn't have a season pass either.

If Shinobi were to say its dead than its dead

The Citadel DLC was developed for a game that did well commercially. Andromeda did not do well commercially. Chances of it being dead are... high.

Schreier is legit. Mass Effect is dead for the next 5 - 10 years.

I picked ME:A up again on PS4 to see if I could power through it, skipping the optional crap, but I'm still not feeling it (and the lower frame rate hurts compared to PC hurts, too). On the other hand, I do agree that in its current state, it's not a terrible game; had it been released in 2014, I'm sure it would have been praised and scored a solid 85% on MC.

I'll probably wait until I'm done with Horizon, Nier: A, and Nioh before trying Andromeda again. Hopefully the PC version will be <$20 by then.

Okay, I finally started this yesterday and got about two hours in. The facial animations are not great, even with patches, but the game itself so far is pretty fun! I'm really not sure what all the complaining is about, but I just got the Tempest so I'm VERY early in.

There are some issues with the game, but it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be..

I'm about to embark on the final mission this week, so hopefully, it is better than three ended, lol.

Yeah let plenty of people tell it this is the worst POS to come out since the gen started. But then, I enjoyed Dragon Age Inquisition (aside from Orlais being an awful city and the terrible, awful battle system) so maybe I'm just built different.

Finished the game a couple of days ago. A total of 45 hours. It's not a masterpiece, but it is a good game nontheless. The hate this game receives is undeserved.

The story is not the most shocking one or the best, but good enough.

I loved it, hope we get the
quarian ark
DLC

Also, surprised by the explicitness of the sex scenes. OH BOI

Missed the Deluxe Andromeda sale on PSN... ;_;

I couldn't resist and glanced at a few of the romance scenes... uhhhh.... that scene with Cora looks hot....

I gotta get this game for... REASONS!

Super annoyed we will probably not see any single player dlc. They had some of my favorite moments of the original trilogy and I bought them all.

I thought andromeda sold pretty well, but apparently not well enough for EA to make any dlc!

I was one of the early disgruntled gamers that put this game down but I think I am nearing the end of the game (last planet stuff just opened for me) and I have to say, after 50+ hours the "facial" shortcomings have all but vanished. I actually enjoy the story. I am not as invested in Ryder as I was in Shep, but it still tells a great story.

Thus far I have finished Cora's and Drack's loyalty mission and holy fuck, Drack's dialogue through that mission is the BEST of the game I have heard so far. I hope the game ending is worth it.

Agreed. There are some legit issues with the game design with regard to operational flow, but for the most part, it is pretty solid, and it's a pity to hear that it's unlikely to get a sequel, as I dare say a lot of those aspects would likely be ironed out.

I agree that it's better than inquisition, but it's not in the same league as Horizon imo. Not in story, world building or combat design.
I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I was loving Horizon, but dropped it when ME:A launched. After 70 hours of ME:A I tried to go back and finish the last third or so or Horizon... and I couldn't get back into it. Just bored all of a sudden especially with the combat. Recently started my NG+ Scott run on Andromeda and still loving it.

Really?

I stopped playing Horizon as I just wasn't having any fun with the combat, gameplay mechanics, or the story, which is unfortunate since that game is the reason I bought a PS4 Pro. I'm enjoying Andromeda, though. So, to me, Andromeda is a much better game.

The combat is easily the best a Mass Effect game has offered imo, superb!

If they could of sorted some things out like pacing, mission structure, kept the Nomad openness on a smaller scale (like Vetra's mission which to me was very atmospheric) like Mass Effect 1 and had sorted the facial stuff out-to me the worst offence is the copy and paste Asaris, disgraceful. This could of been a really good game.

I don't think it's bad by any means, in fact I like it but they could and should of done better here, my love of Bioware diminished somewhat after this.

Honestly, if they could've gotten everything sorted out at least six months earlier, the game would've been a lot better, simply because there would've been more time to get the writing, pacing, and animations sorted out before release.

About a few hours in, loved 1-3 but this game is janky and the characters aren't the greatest. At this point is it worth just plowing through just the main story to finish or is any of the side mission stuff good and I should try those out too?

Trying to get through my backlog this summer if it helps any.

Bought this at release, not expecting too much from Andromeda even though i am a massive Mass Effect fan and would put the original trilogy all in my top 10 of all time.

Played it up till middle of Harvarl as my first planet after Eos and put it down and went elsewhere. The pacing felt off, i was not meshing with the characters at all and it just felt like a pale imitation of what Mass Effect was.

Started playing again last week. It feels like a different game - a lot of small niggly things were fixed or improved enough that i could mesh with the characters more and i am really enjoying it now. Still would not put it in the same league as the original trilogy but it improved my opinion enough that i can play through it and look forward to "what's next".

Main story, Tempest crew, and Heleus Assignment missions are the only ones worth doing. Once you get to 100% viability and beat all the Architects, you just quit the Heleus Assignments for Eos, Voeld, Kadara, and Elaaden, especially if they're just helping out a rando person (totally do the
Bain Massani
one on Eos though).

You do that, and the game is pretty straight forward.

I would say to especially do the Ryder Family Secrets mission as well. Great homage to the original trilogy and tie-ins with Andromeda.

It's alright if you focus solely on the full sidequests I guess. Don't do any of the task shit though. That's just pointless filler.

As disappointed as I was with Andromeda I decided to restart the original last weekend to see if I simply have rose tinted glasses when looking back or if it really is that good and god, it's like a breath of fresh air after the stench that was Andromeda. Almost played the whole weekend. Literally the only thing Andromeda does better is the combat, everything else is LEAGUES behind the original. Never going to touch that piece of shit game that Andromeda is again.

Sheesh, tell us how you REALLY feel.

Was the opposite for me at least with regard to ME1. Shows it's age, and very tough to stomach after playing Andromeda. The combat is not even near the same conversation and the Mako is a steaming pile compared to the Nomad. Story and characters are fine, but I prefer the Andromeda crew (trilogy crew didn't hit stride largely until later games).

Final thoughts:

I finally finished this up the other night and was really impressed at the structure and intensity of the final mission. However, the story in and around that mission felt a bit disjointed and was a little confusion, maybe I missed some things during the CG interventions…

Hoy did he Arcon remove the Hyperion from the Nexus? I mean, one minute it’s become a fixture of the Nexus, the next minute he’s remotely taken control of it and is flying it towards Meridian with Dunn at the helm? Was it Sam controlling everything? How did the Arcon get control of Sam through Sarah’s implant, when Sam was linked to Ryder?

The mission itself was really fun to play and had a good balance of challenge and fun. It helped a lot that I had done a majority of the side missions and had a bunch of folks kick in to help. After the mission, you can clearly see that the game was set up for multiple “episodes” as you see the Primark fly away and then your crew constantly telling you there is much more to do.

Also, that Quarian Arc are they going to bother with the DLC?

Overall, I really enjoyed my time with the game. I feel a lot of the hate the game gets it just overblown torch and pitchfork internet dribble. That's not to say the game didn't have any issues, because there were still several glitched missions, bad animations and quirky story elements. With that being said, it was far from the unplayable and nonsensicle mess that some felt the need to shout to the heavens about. I'd give it a 8/10 if I had to rate it..

It's cool to see a few people are giving Andromeda a fair shake now that the drama has died down, and are pleasantly surprised to find a fun, if flawed, game. That's what it always was. That's all it ever was.

I'm not done yet but I'm finding some real heart in this game. The angaran are pretty cool and I'm enjoying the kett after we learn some things about them. I like the religious angle and I wish it was played up more. One thing I think BioWare should focus on is urban environments, this goes for Dragon Age as well. Stuff like Aya or Val Royeaux should be really fleshed out and unique instead of extremely small hubs. Look at Novigrad as an example, now that's a damn city. A bonus is that urban environments are more fun to fight in than empty sand dunes. Use those Frostbite destruction tools! Let me rip apart a kett ship with biotics.

And yeah like people said they really need to figure out how to get enemies into place without just dropping them from random drop ships or just empty space like in other games. The whole open world genre needs some tightening.

That being said I really like the characters and my Sara Ryder's got some spunk.

Origin currently has it on sale for £22.49. I'm tempted and after reading some the impressions and seeing the improvements from the patches. I'm tempted to pick up now.

Question is, is it worthing getting now? Or should I wait till cheaper?

If you want to play it now, then have at it. There's a ton there to like even if it has flaws.

However if you have other stuff you're playing now and could wait for a while, I'm sure it'll be even cheaper later in the year.

But I for one loved it and played 70 hours at launch prepatch and it's my current GOTY.
