would give it a 7, loved the setting and atmosphere though.

Tried to watch don't knock twice this weekend with Lucy Boynton, from the blackcoats daughter. Stopped after 20 mins, horrible...

I saw this. Its visual and sound design are powerfully immersive, and the cast give some passionate performances. I liked the structure of the film. The plot is simple and effective.

It's an odd complaint, but I found myself wishing that the sinister elements had amounted to more. The narrative is so intimate, so focused on a minuscule handful of characters. Initially I expected the setting and the other students to have more of a role. I suppose the one thing I really missed was a bigger payoff than the scene of
the girl taking the severed heads and worshiping the Devil in the furnace room. I mean, of course she was going to do that. That image just didn't quite do it for me, not like the first time you see her sitting on the ground doing that creepy bowing.

Her violent actions and the time skip reveal are memorable punches to the gut.
I just wanted more. A more haunting image, a more interesting tableau after the
murder spree.
Maybe I was spoiled by Hannibal or something.

Anyway, the movie still gets my full endorsement. It was super well made.

Interesting! I agree that the scene you reference could have been somewhat more out there, but I was actually surprised by the strength of the image. Might have been the way it was juxtaposed against the rest of the film. A lot of films let me down in the very respect you describe, but this one delivered the gut punch I wanted.

Can you place it on a slasher scale consisting of Friday Sequels when 1 is Friday Part IV and the last place Jason Goes To Hell?

It's pretty low really. Do you want gore? Cause this really doesn't have any. Scares? Not really. First half of the movie has nothing horror about it. It's a really odd mix of action and horror......

PLEASE watch this. It's absolutely fucking weird, awfully weird, like Scooby Doo on crack, the Tommy Wiseau of horror. I'm dead laughing at some of the scenes here. The humour is so fucking strange and out there. I can't tell if this is genius or outright BAD. Just give it a watch and laugh your asses off at what happens.

Would love to watch this, but only a censored version is avaiable here

Starz Encore has been airing all of the Friday the 13th films in reverse order, and sitting down and watching this, I can see what specific things they took from which films, like the sweater thing and Tommy Jarvis

Fifth episode of our fledgling podcast, 'Choke On It'. Had a lot of fun with this one:

This week Jasmine and Jeremiah dig into a topic that's known to cause division within the horror community, that is, the definition of a horror film. What components are crucial, can they be funny, or does horror have to play it mean and gory from start to finish? We chose a handful of films that are known to force this conversation to surface, and decide whether or not they fall into the genre they so often claim to be a part of.

How did you watch it? I'm not sure what's available to me here.

Yeah the only version I can even find to buy is a german blu ray (i'm not fucking with DVD's if there's a bluray version out, and I'm not opposed to buying different region blu's) and it's cut (79min). Unfortunately I refuse to buy cut version of movies. This is why I don't even have Dawn of the Dead or Dead Alive on blu.

IMDB says it's 84min but I've seen the movie listed on download sites as 81min. So I'm not even sure if you can find a non-cut version period right now or if the runtime is wrong on imdb.

No idea what movie you're talking about. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4900708/?ref_=ttmi_tt this one? It's supposedly not even a horror movie, although a thriller can definitely fall into the category.

This is it. :) Finished it, it was awesome! Highly recommended for...maybe fans of Memories of Murder. I haven't watched too many similar movies, actually. A deeply disturbing slow-burn. I'd say it blurs the line between thriller and horror.

Watch it if you can, guys!

I tried watching Kuso but it's just not for me. Interesting idea but there's just too much cum and boils for me. Plus the style was very jarring wandering from part to part.

That's a really good trailer, nice job. I'm not too keen on the typeface of the logo however, it looks a bit generic.
It's just the opening scene, the font is much smaller in the film.

We are being pretty big with the horror though. It's very Blumhouse.

I just watched this, I really liked it but there's just one thing I really have to question

What the fuck was going on with the wife to cause her to turn into an obedient zombie that quickly? Good lord those drugs must be magic.

I think it's left open on purpose but my personal interpretation would be that it's
a mix of drugs and maybe some fucked up hypnosis. Look at his eyes...It also seems he went for the wife from the beginning. Scenes with her not saying talking about her encounters with the creep started really early, now that I think about it.
It's all a bit surreal so you have to suspend your disbelief here and there, I guess.

Just listened to this and enjoyed the discussion. I'll add it to my subs.

Are there two separate podcasts that you and the cohost also do? I missed the names in the beginning.

First, THANK YOU!

We don't care if it's just one view, as long as there's someone to engage with regarding the topic at hand, we are thrilled to have spent the time on the episode.

As for the other podcast, it's Bitches of Horror. They are also fairly new, but have garnered a good size amount of subscribers given the production value and release frequency of each episode. They are very receptive to any constructive criticism, and love to engage with subscribers.

Both girls are regular contributors to the parent site Thirteenth Floor (which is always looking for writers) as well.

Cool, thanks, I subbed to their yt as well. Is YT the way to sub to these? I usually listen to podcasts via itunes but couldn't find Choke On It in the itunes store.

Does anyone know how extensive the cuts on the German Tonight She Comes blu-ray are?

I can't believe the only version available is that. I can't even find any info on any other region releases or what cuts were made to the German one.

It's being worked on. I expect by next episode, we'll officially be available on iTunes.

I love that the first linked podcast touches on the hidden, more obscure horror.

Being in Germany kinda sucks as a horror fan. Yesterday I was looking for a blu ray of The Wailing. No chance, it's simply not wanted here thanks to the general German taste in movies. :(

There's some weird omissions for USA as well.

Inbred never came to the states on bluray - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1723124/?ref_=nv_sr_1 (really underrated I might add)

I found this one particularly strange though
P2 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0804516/?ref_=nv_sr_1 Also never came here on bluray and it had fairly well known american actors. Not to mention every other Alexandre Aja film is on bluray.

Also, Germany is one of only a handful of countries that has an uncut bluray release of Evil Dead 2013. (not in USA still, I imported japanese one, they're region 1)

I was a little late to Blu Rays but now I can't go back. :( Makes me think that maybe the format is not as established as I thought.

We got pretty great remastered versions of Re-Animator from Capelight, though. :)

I can definitely sympathize with that. Finland used to have very strict guidelines with movie violence up until the DVD age. Before The Evil Dead was banned entirely over here, there were about 10 minutes cut from it, including most of the wax animations towards the end. The DVD was finally released here in uncut form in 2003, and shown at theaters for the first time.

Some movies aren't still released here, like Session 9, which only came out in VHS format. I had to buy the UK DVD, which unfortunately lacked English subtitles.

The only horror movie focused podcast I listen to is Faculty of Horror

Good discussion, usually themed episodes and usually pairing movies together to compare and contrast their approaches to different themes or concepts (ie Creepshow and Trick R Treat, Fright Night and Lost Boys, etc.)
