Sony cracks down on sexual content in games.

It's where all the money is it seems, since so many mega corporations are catering to them. I mean we're talking about companies who's management would sell their own mother for a nickle of profit so it has to be very profitable, right?

This particular issue it isn't, it's a vocal minority that infected companies to push their agenda. Or you think everybody is as extreme as that other forum? Make it a worldwide poll about fanservice and if it should be removed because it offends women and let's see what happens. They practically pretend that they speak for a gigantic amount of people, with the silent majority completely unaware of it.
Most men don't even know MK11 women look like futches for this reason.

It's really weird to see a company like Sony that not only makes consoles but also M rated videogames come out and pretty much say they agree with the idea that videogames have a negative impact on children.

You'd think a gaming company would be the first to call out that argument as BS and point out that there haven't been any big studies to prove it.
But apparently that isn't the case, the same company that wants to sell you realistic looking and gore heavy games like TLOU 2 seems to think that that sort of content is totally fine but anime tits will fuck up your kids. To me that's borderline as hypocritical as some alcohol company being like "We need to do more to keep drugs away from kids. Alcohol though? That's fine, we should set the drinking age to 12"

If I was a politician that's looking to restrict or ban violent games, having a big company like Sony admitting that some games affect kids would be exactly the sort of ammo I'd be looking for
You can show a little girl running up behind a man and stabbing him repeatedly in the throat, but you can't show an adult woman's naked arse. I see posts trying to downplay this matter, but this mindset is baffling.

I just don't understand how a company can police what I'm allowed to enjoy.

I feel like it needs to be pointed out that companies - including Sony - have been doing this very thing forever. It is not new for a publisher of content to have final say on what it acceptable content to authorise. What is new is the standard they now consider to be unacceptable when it comes to sexual content. I don't agree with how they have applied this policy in some cases, but do believe they have the right to make that call, and the noise being made about it relates to the content affected and not the principle of it.

All three console companies have had a policy to refuse certification for AO rated titles forever. Does this outrage people? Because I can't say I ever see it talked about.

This means more than censorship honestly. At least for me. This just seems like it would piss off devs and companies that rely on their niche market that wouldn't buy censored games. So in the future the Ps5 will only have cinematic games made in the west.

You're comparing Netflix not allowing porn with Sony not allowing content that could be shown in a PG-13 movie. That's not a very good argument.

Motivation is the same, that's all.

The point being, Netflix don't have issues with the content per-se, they aren't censoring "Love" or similar art-house fare with hardcore content because its got a degree of artistic legitimacy. "Big-titty fuckers VII" or whatever has no chance, because its not hiding its purpose of spank-fodder!

That as I keep stressing is what the games getting hit have in common, they trade on their prurient content. So even if the titty-fondling modes and stuff are pretty tame by real porn standards, the problem is that's what they are selling.

In this current, reactionary climate, Sony have evidently decided that the potential risk of association with bad publicity emanating from such titles is more than they are worth - because should fingers get pointed in the media at them for allowing such un-PC content on their platform, they have no artistic merit argument to fall back on. Its just a niche flavor of soft-porn.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by selling sex. If you use sex to profit in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the japanese public, is not going to want to purchase a PS4, nor will they purchase any games for the system if they find out Sony allows sexual content in the store.

Devil May Cry 5 wasn't hentai though and that had its nudity censored for a scene that was acceptable on every other platform. It was so embarrassing that Sony had to go back and remove the censorship after people complained. Is that going to be the standard going forward with every game that has the mildest of nudity?
That was on capcoms part. It was uncensored and the game is the exact same on all platforms now.

See the thing is, none of the censored titles have to do with the AO rated titles at all. The rating boards did their job but Sony is going even further by ignoring that and making asinine censorship only on Japanese based games.

Its not about hentai or naked chicks, its what it leads to. Whats next, cut out gore?, cut out swearing?, end up like Nintendos bigger cousin?.

"Winners can be choosers" so Sony thinks. Meaning Sony thinks you all will have to suck it up and still kiss its ass. Hopefully things can turn around.

i will definitely support a console that censors content that developers intended for me to enjoy as a mature adult

it's like we are living in an episode of Black Mirror, except the episode spans over 2 decades as society crumbles and the free market collapses due to SJW mania. LONG LIVE CENSORED MEDIA!!! SONY WILL DEFINITELY WIN THE NEXT GEN CONSOLE RACE!!!

I find it pretty insulting that Sony believes the art already present in games is harmful. As someone who creates erotic art I take issue with the the "changing world" idea.

The other censorship discussion that has more quotes from the article says that Sony is using the #metoo movement as a reason to do this.

I work alongside and take commissions from women that create and enjoy erotic art so this idea that sexy art is demeaning seems really misguided. I don't think the #metoo movement was for suppressing art. That seems like a poor reading of the issue.

I can't support a company that believes sexual content is demeaning to women and needs to be banned. I believe Sony has made a mistake here.

I get that and as I said, I don't agree with how they have applied their policy in some cases, but it illustrates that they have always had a say over what content you get to play, and that most have no issue with that in principle on any console. All three companies 'could' allow the publication of AO rated games, but blanket ban them instead, making the choice for you.

The problem for me is not the removal of specific content, but rather not clearly defining what is and is not allowed. Aside from the harm to developers, you cannot well argue against, or reasonably agree with something that is so undefined. Sony should set out what has changed, what is allowed and what is not.

If sony bends over to the anti women objectification crowd, then the "don´t waste kid´s time" legions are next. Sony will have to be philosophically consistent and start implementing play time restrictions inside the ps network and even banning games that make too much damage, as we start seeing with games like PUBG in some countries like India and Nepal. Anyway, it´s not my battle, I don´t do consoles :messenger_sunglasses:

It wasn't on Capcom's part. No other platform made this change. Not even japanese PS4 players had this censorship. This was purely the result of the Western Playstation guidelines. I already acknowledged it was changed back, but it never should have been censored in the first place. It shouldn't take people complaining to get Sony to amend a change for every censorship decision made.

Touching used games makes me feel like the poor tho

That is silly. Used games are cheap, developers get no money from them, and they can be found in amazing condition. Most large scale collections are primarily comprised of used games and those people are certainly not poor!

America-centric sensibilities are cute with their tits bad, violence fine stance. I don't particularly care for the current crop of boob-fests like Sengan Kagura (I'm more of an Onechanbara / DoA man, myself), but to each their own! I do wonder how the censors would react if a studio decided to make a graphic BL game for the West, though. Those manga get really intense.

In any case, I haven't bought a Sony product since the PS2 and don't see that changing. Their exclusives don't interest me, and anything else that I'm interested that shows up on Sony consoles winds up on PC eventually anyway, so I'll wait for those ports.

I don't think everybody is that extreme, no. But the silent majority always just keeps on staying silent and won't really move. So catering to the "sjw" crowd seems to only increase their profits still. Nike had success with it, the rest of them keep on doing it too, Sony now joins, I mean what else am I supposed to conclude when, again, these companies are run by people that would sell their mother for a nickle of profit. And the end result remains the same anyways: they always win.

What's wrong with them? They have their priorities wrong. Like the MK peeps. I can understand moving away from stupid looking costumes but it doesn't work if you double down on the gore and the savagery.

I’d love to join the fight...

But Sony has me by the balls because of MLB The Show

You know, I was going to skip out on this year's game, but my buddy streamed MTO last night for me, raved about how much better fielding is (he used to use auto fielding in the past, but now the ratings based makes it so much better that he switched to manual), and that the gameplay feels much tighter overall that last years, since the influences pretty much ruined it with them appeasing to them with patches in 18.

MTO looks dope as hell, so I am on board again, plus, it's baseball! So I am going to sure up 18, then get 19 when I am done.

Tag me in the MLB The Show thread with a reply to this, don't want to derail, just wanted to share that since it happened last night.

Just like it is up to gamers where they wish to buy their games. People didn't accept Xbox's anti consumer bullshit and they won't accept Sony's.
sure, if people want to vote with their wallet they should absolutely do that

but i have long lost hope about gamer's ability tokeeptheitmoney in their pants

Are you comparing a black man taking a knee against racism to a bunch of spoiled white women butthurt about fictional women looking better than them?
Because this is what it boils down to. I'm fairly positive regardless of race men don't mind pretty women in their games, and those who argue they do mind on the internet are merely grandstanding for a "good boy" headpat from the woke community.
