There are watch dogs PS4 bundles so the game would have to release alongside the console no matter what right?

No those are not official bundles, essentially retailers like Amazon created those orders so if PS4 was to release before Watchdogs you would get the console and then the game would be shipped to you later!

Yeah, I think that's really what it boils down to, the casuals who make up the majority of buyers are interested in next gen FIFA/COD/BF and the €100/£80 difference is a game plus PS+ for at least 3 months.

Xbone + game + 3 months XBLG = £493/€587

PS4 + game + 3 months PS+ = £414/€484

The same with 12 month PS+ = £436/517

Whichever way you look at it PS4 is better value for people who want to play next gen COD/FIFA/BF and don't give a shit about media functions or Kinect/Move.

I have to concede and agree. That price difference is huge for softcore audiences.

If the rumor of a Kinectless SKU is true then Kinect is dead in the water. I feel bad for the people that pay the extra for a launch console with a peripheral that will eventually not be supported by almost any games.

Seems MS is really against a wall. I'd be pretty furious too if they dropped Kinect. They can't force the product and then kill it, and if they go with a Kinect-less model so soon, the majority will go for that version, no?

Or maybe it wont be such a big deal if they can cater to both spectrums.

All the more reason to be surprised that they are really going to give Sony that $100 lead.

ANY chance that they will take a hit and come down in price? I mean, PS3 surely couldn't afford to lower the price, but X1 can, right?

They're retailer bundles, not official bundles. You're just buying two separate products together. If the PS4 version launches in late November with the other versions you'll just get the PS4 when it launches and the game when it launches.

So I'm wondering what happens when you try to play a game that uses Kinect? Since it's no longer required for the console to function will the game have logic to detect if it's hooked up and bypass it or will it say you must connect the Kinect to play this game.

The latter.

If MS releases a $349 or $299 Kinectless SKU, Sony has pretty much no chance of winning (at least, in NA). IIRC, Sony isn't that profitable as it is, so lowering the price would probably make them lose tons of money.

I'd imagine MS could lower the prices on the console (and maybe even the games) and knock Sony out of the running in some regions.

Of course they do. Many people expected the XO to be cheaper due to the PS4 having more hardware performance and better specs. A XO Kinectless SKU that was cheaper than the PS4 is as it should already be.

If PS4 launches on the 29th, you can get:

Knack
Driveclub
Killzone: SF
Assassin's Creed 4
Battlefield 4
(possibly Watch Dogs) since next-gen version was said to be launched alongside PS4.
Warframe
Hohokum
DC Universe Online
(Not sure about Madden, FIFA, or NBA 2k, since I don't follow those games) they've been listed as launch games earlier this year.
Doesn't CoD release like a week later?

There's a lot in it for almost every type of gamer. While I do not like every title on that list - the variety makes it strong.

Exactly. My thoughts exactly. A powerful launch isn't about having an overwhelming amount of awesome titles, in my opinion. It's about having strong titles in a variety of genres, for a multitude of tastes.

I'm fine just having one game I really want to play at launch as long as whatever I want to play is something I know I'll enjoy.

I assume Ryse, Dead Rising and most launch titles will require Kinect, does that mean my Kinectless Xbox bought 6 months later won't let me play these ? That makes nonsense

Kinect 2 is a huge investment both in R&D and vision of the system.

Dropping it means
1)Zero confidence in your own product
2)Making all the money invested in the project worthless
3)Confusing dvelopers as to what the hell do you want

Very interested to see how far Microsoft can be cornered.
This is what makes it such an insane move. Presumably the cheaper, kinectless skew is going to sell way better, thus dramatically reducing the potential install base for kinect games. Think of the money poured into those games, and the development resources put into figuring out his to shoehorn kinect features into more traditional games. They'd be cutting the legs out from underneath all that stuff. Having showed so much faith in it and touting it as a key part of the xbox experience, they'd basically be dooming it to obscurity.

Wow that's an awful launch lineup. The only thing I want out of that is Killzone.

Not going to happen

Damn that could suck for the people who chose that one. Hopefully Ubi does the right thing and bumps the date up.

Kinect stuff in those titles is probably optional. We have not seen any real Kinect only games apart from that new Kinect Sports thingy.

Ryse is confirmed to not depend on Kinect. It's optional. Don't know about other titles, but I haven't seen any essential Kinect features in any of them.

Its simple, don't have Kinect, you cannot play Kinnect games.

I am buying the PS4 just for DC Online...so everything else is gravy for me. I may buy AC4 for PS as well have to see how it compares to the XB1 first.

This is exactly why it should have never been a focus for Microsoft in the first place. What market research did they do that arrived them at the belief that there was no market for a powerful next gen gaming console?

It's fine if you want to make a machine that can browse the web, do skype, etc. But when those functions (i.e. KINECT) drive the price of the console up to $100 over your competitor.... who are you aiming the device for? smh....

Having first-party exclusives and moneyhatting third-parties are not the same thing.
It always depends on how people see it

I mean just look at the game + 3m PS+ vs Xbone

Xbone (no extras) = £429/€499
PS4 + 3m PS+ + game = £414/€484

That is what's killing MS right now, and I don't expect it to be any different in the US. People are weighing up the value proposition offered by both consoles and it is very hard to come away with Xbone as being better value for money unless the buyer is really into Kinect and motion gaming. MS bet on those buyers, and so far their horse has yet to leave the stable while Sony's (hardcore and softcore gamers) can see the finish line.

Lesson learned, next time they shouldn't waste time on useless gimmicky shit that only serves at the detriment of gameplay.

Wut, dc universe online is not a good game at all. You're going to be dissapointed.

Xbox One sounds so fractured its unreal. I never expected this to be 360s successor. Such a disappointment.

Great news on PS4 though, can't wait for next gen to start.

Everything in the OP sounds good beside the worrying money hat. I'm really, really hoping Sony would wise up this gen and attempt to follow MS in snatching some desireable JP exclusives rather than funding too many first party Western centric games that only end up competing against each other for crumbs.
