NPD Sales Results for November 2013 [Up3: Zelda, Pokemon, Mario, 3DS, Wii U]

TEARAWAY ~ 14k

Well, that really is a damn shame. Game looks great and I still want to play it someday. Can't say it would have sold much better on any other platform - it's just too quirky and the market is not terribly hospitable to new IP.

doesn't that include digital-only stuff though

Good question. And not that I'm saying he made anything up, but since multiple people have brought it up, it would be nice if famousmortimer also explained why the 2M Vita LTD figure isn't consistent with the NPD total.

Sony has 2.2 million already sold (past week).

They'll sell at least 2 million on december worldwide: launches on Middle East this week, on Asia next week, and holyday sales on EEUU (big one this sunday) and Europe.

They'll get close to 4 million this year.

Xbox One has 2 millions and I expect 1 million more, at most.

They'll get near to 3 million this year (50-50 on USA maybe, 35-65 on G. Britain and far worst on other 11 countries they are).

March? PS4 will get easily to 6 million (with Japan launch included)... Xbox One will be around 4 at best.

I can tell that this stuff really matters to you. How bummed out will you be if the Xbox does well?

Titanfall seems like type of game that will do well in the States, but not worldwide, while Infamous seems to have a broader worldwide appeal, IMO. I wouldn't bet against Infamous selling more than Titanfall on the Xbone.

Don't we have 2 Infamous games to predict sales by already? The series ain't that big.

Edit: how can PS3 be 6x the sales of Wii U? That doesn't sound right...unless he meant PS4.

Edit 2: Nevermind, it says Wii. Do you see what you've done with your naming Nintendo?

I'm curious as to how your graph has GBC spiking in its third month...it was released in November.

The only time Tearaway would've sold any decent number of copies is if it was a launch game for the system.

Unfortunately it wasn't going to be ready for launch and Sony and MM had no idea Vita would tank this badly by the time it came out. Sucks for everyone involved and joins the lost gems genre.

Hopefully MM's next game is on PS4 with some good marketing like LBP got.

The real test is not the Christmas time, which is kind of guaranteed sales. The real test, which Wii U failed terribly is come Feb/Mar and beyond until the second wave of titles come in.

Whichever has less sales drop during the "drought" will be the winner.

I wonder how much digital factored into the PS4/XB1. Is there any word on when NPD is supposed to include that?

Unlike a lot of my colleagues, who often express glee after convincing someone to go for the Xbone instead of the PS4, I don't like to get personally invested in my job. But I must say, everytime I saw a parent put down the copy of Tearaway I recommended and pick up Angry Birds: Star Wars instead, a little piece of my soul would die.

Thanks, cs.

But that gives a too high of a margin. =\

PS4 ~ 1234k ???

Nice catch, the GBC is one month behind everyone else. Gonna fix it now.
That fits much better with my expectation based on the 1.4M.

And would give 395K and 66K for the PS3 and Wii respectively.

Oh ignore this: I've transposed some numbers.

EDIT2: Would give 420K and 70K for PS3 and Wii.

What's the difference?

One is accusing the person of lying or spreading misinformation and the other is questioning the information.

It would not have worked properly on any system but the Vita.

Oh, it takes advantage of Vita controls? I haven't played it, just watched some videos. It looks like a lot of fun and if I decide to get a Vita for remote play on PS4, I will be sure to pick it up.

Man. Vita numbers are terrible. 3DS numbers are also mehhh. Android/iOS really took a huge chunk of that market this generation.

I don't see how the WiiU can survive through next year. With sales being that low with a good Mario game, I don't see how they can compete with the PS4/Xbone with their respective lineups next year

Titanfall will move a few X1s, but nowhere near the amount people think it will (at least, in my opinion). Most of it's sales will come from the 360 (I'd say it'll be at least 60/30/10 360/X1/PC). Dudebros won't put down 500+ when they can get it on their 360s where most of their other friends probably are.

The real question is, will EA and Respawn fast track Titanfall 2 to get it out on X1/360/PS4/3/PC in 2015? Or will they keep the exclusivity.

Don't we have 2 Infamous games to predict sales by already? The series ain't that big.

You're right, the first two inFamous games weren't the biggest sellers, but Sony seems to actually be giving Second Son a lot of a attention, and everything about so far seems better than the first two. I think it has a decent chance of pushing the inFamous franchise higher in popularity and I think it has a shot at outselling Titanfall on X1 (obviously, not Titanfall combined, just the X1 version)

Well, that's the thing. If one friend is likely to have purchased TF first and is enthusiastic about it, they very may have purchased it for Xbone instead of 360. MS is going to push that game hard.

Fore sure, but even if purchased for XB1 the other person could still buy it on 360 if s/he has enough friends in the 360 ecosystem. That's what I'm talking about. Forza 5 doesn't have that problem as it's totally exclusive on one Microsoft platform not 2 or 3, however a person views Windows PC.

You know, I gotta wonder if PS+ on the Vita really did a number on Tearaway's sales potential, and perhaps just about every other Vita exclusive. I don't think anyone was expecting Sony to have offered the major games that they have there, and with Soul Sacrifice being a recent addition there, I wonder if Sony has unwittingly trained the audience to expect the big first party titles to show up on PS+ sooner rather than later.

Spectacular numbers for the history of consoles and the doubters begone.

But poor poor Vita... it needs exclusives in major franchises right now.

It needs to be taken out back. Both the Wii U and Vita have no future, but I don't know why anyone would say VIta has a better one. Even it's mediocre Japanese numbers can't make the difference up elsewhere.

No, it's dead. Uncharted, Gravity Rush, P4G, Tearaway, LBP, Soul Sacrfice, a shit ton of JRPGS/indies/etc didn't work. I'm glad all of Sony's 1st party studios are all working on the PS4.

LBP was quirky and a new IP and did over 200k. I just think the Vita is not an appealing platform. The consumer seems to agree.

The Tearaway team was 8 people. This isn't going to hurt MM in any way. More people do deserve to play it though. Hopefully it has some legs. 5k legs. :/

Looking forward to picking up a vita, persona and kz mercenaries for at a bargain bin price in the near future. Still regret not pulling the trigger on last years Amazon bundle.

Another problem is that the PS4 released last month, and Vita owners are likely to be early adopters and hardcore Playstation enthusiasts.

I didn't buy Tearaway just because I had way too many other video game expenses last month. I'll probably pick it up after the holidays.

Agreed. Even the biggest Vita fans around here (myself included) consider it a dead system walking, but at least it got a few must-play games, and releases will continue to trickle out over the coming months regardless of how dead the system is.

*Goes back to playing Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God on his dead system...*

It'll get cheaper soon with either store discounts or official. I've been looking forward to P4G for a while, and since rpgs are better on handhelds, I might pick up FFX HD. I actually wish KH would have come too.
