I forgot, but where are we in this two years timeframe to switch everything to Apple Silicon.

Still on Intel:

MacBook Pro 16"
iMac 27"
Mac Pro

Think that is it. Of course, they still offered some of the other products in Intel, but that's just existing stock.

So Parasite is only $5 on iTunes/Apple Movies/TV/Whatever. I picked it up based on the positivity I've seen about it.

I see Us is also on sale for $5. I love Jordan Peele's comedy but haven't watched his movies yet. Is this a good one to jump in on?

HELP me decide.
I never had an iphone. I've always had an android phone and to say the truth... I do not use any of android customizations. I've rooted the phones years ago but not for the last few years.
I did not even put custom wallpapers on my Oneplus 7t (I have is for almost 2 years).
Generally I am kinda tired with android. UI can be skippy, sometimes laggy and camera does what it wants... Notifications sometimes are instant and sometimes take long time to show up etc.
I could get a better android phone like S21 (I want to avoid Chinese phones like oneplus since they downgraded it badly with upgrades and software kinda sucks).
But Iphone 13 is very similar price and maybe it's a good idea to experiment.

So... I am a big guy. 120kg, 190cm tall etc. I am kinda tired of big phones though so Iphone 13 default size seems perfect. I've been considering mini but it would probably be too small.
Since turning 30 few years ago I relaxed a bit and RGBified my pc and stuff which I swore I would never do. Then after ps5 came out, I like getting all white accessories and experiment. Black phones do not interest me AT ALL anymore.

Would it be a terrible idea to get a PINK iphone 13 lol? Kinda as a joke but also for it to be something a bit different?
Gold Iphone 13 pro looks even better but it's already too expensive. 120hz is not that important to me and it is still unknown if cameras in PRO models are better than standard models.

edit - I like a good camera quality and decent loud speaker for showering podcasts.
btw - The older I get, the more rgb I get. fml

Based on this, I would say you mainly have to double check the application you use a lot. but i feel most of the decent phone should be able to fulfill your requirement.
I’m not an android expert, but i know the notification part is quite different. But on the UI side you should be ok.
I have an iPhone 12 mini and the size of the screen is more than enough for me and i like the smaller size/weight of the phone.

Take the plunge my man. If you dislike the color of the phone, get a case.

Thanks. It's silly for a man to get Pink but it is kinda... salmon coloured on the images which is great.
I have no idea if the back is glossy or matte and what color sides are. I might wait for reviews.

And I wonder what sacrifices does 13 and 13 mini take on camera side compared to Pro models. I absolutely do not want to game on phone. I just use it for neogaf, yt, twitch and Camera Photos.
The PRO models stainless steel sides seem to catch fingerprints like crazy too. I rarely use a case but I did with oneplus 7t because it was too think and hard to grip. Flat sides could be cool.

So right now I am leaning towards standard 13 pink... but mini could be pretty neat too. It Could be refreshing to have smaller phone again if it's not shite and too hard to type on.

You should consider using a screen protector, the omnipresent alcohol gel (thanks COVID) will destroy the oleophobic coating.

MagSafe is kind of Qi wireless charging with MagSafe. It’s an alternate way of charging. If you have Qi charger, it’s good enough, you don’t need anything else.
Else you can either pick one of them:
-> lightning charging cable (and use a standard usb–C brick)
-> Qi wireless charger (same than the one use on Android).
-> mag-safe charger (Qi + magnet)

Hell. I've caved in and preordered 13 pro gold... and 13 blue for waifu.
Now I need the 20watt chargers right?
Why do cases say magsafe on it? the phone have magnets for magsafe puck by default right ?
30 watt if you want the MagSafe charger. I do recommend it. It’s my preferred way to charge.

20watt is fine for everything else.

MagSafe allows for accessories. If you don’t plan to use it your case won’t need to have MagSafe. I think it’s good to have but I use the MagSafe wallet & wireless charging puck.

My iPhone run is over, I just listed it on Facebook. I still have my iPad and MacBook but I just like my Android better

I like Android fine, but Apple's device ecosystem unfortunately doesn't have a match in the Android world. The integration between iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch is pretty awesome. It would be strange, imo, to use Mac, iPad, and Android. But if that works for you.....ok.

The way I use these devices doesn’t seem like it will change enough to be worth sticking with iPhone
I don't think there will very be one device for all people, so it is good there is competition. I was Android since the beginning and eventually change is nice. Enjoy the journey my man. Maybe we'll see you back sometime in the future. Or maybe we'll join you. ;)

I don’t look at these phones like some people do, same with game consoles or whatever thing fanboys get caught up in. I am not brand loyal and use and appreciate all kinds of stuff, the iPhone is good and nice I just like Android better.

Does Apple not sell the Capri Blue silicone case for iPhone 12 Pro’s any more? I see it on the website but doesn’t seem to be in stock at any stores or deliverable from Apple…

Also, is anyone else’s battery draining faster after upgrading to iOS 15?

I've ordered 13 blue (wife) and 13 pro gold (me) on 21st and it's still not here.
Media Markt screwed something badly. Yesterday they ifnally emailed me:
"We are very sorry for not being able to ship your iphone on time due to high demand. Your iphone is on the way to us and we will ship it asap. Here, take this 100 bucks as we are sorry".
I've already bought two 20w apple chargers so I am thinking what else I could get.

I have lg fn7 earbuds for bike podcasts so I think I am good on airpods for now. A bit annoying as I can't use ambient mode on a bicycle since it just picks up wind. And the damn headphone always defaults to noise cancelling which I 100% do not want on a bicycle omg

Maybe magsafe chargers for me and waifu ?
I do not want to use a case but I am considering it. How silicone differs from leather as far as getting into pocket etc ?
Any other suggestions ?

If you are not getting a case then definitely recommend apple care +with drop protection.

I’m too clumsy to not have a case. I’m using an UAG Civilian. I used the Note 20 Ultra variant and was glad they made one for iPhone. Best case I’ve ever used. Saved my phone many a time from my clumsiness. So if you decide to get a case, definitely recommend it.

Why did you order from someone other than Apple?

MagSafe charger is a good option. I use mine at my desk almost exclusively. It's just handy. I would have zero problems if Apple removes the lightning port and goes exclusively MagSafe charging. Only issue would then be CarPlay, which I would not want to give up.
Silicone vs Leather is just a preference. I don't notice any usability differences aside from texture.
My only other suggestion is the Apple Watch (much more expensive than the $100) or replacing those earbuds with AirPods.

I need to cave and buy the Momentum MagSafe accessories.

I've got from Media Markt because they "promised" delivery on release but also because they offered very nice 0% payment plan so I could customize it how I wanted.
I will get apple watch if I end up liking the iphone but for sure I am waiting for 7th gen.
Airpods are ok? Everyone just uses the PRO it seems

I will probably get magsafe for now then.

I only have the base AirPods, but with the wireless charging case. I love the hell out of them for calls, during travel, and streaming YouTube while I treadmill. I would not use them as my primary listening gear (I much prefer speakers & I have way nicer headphones) but they are perfect on the go. "It just works", etc.

I do want to get a pair of the Pros, but with rumors about a new gen around the corner, I will wait for those. A part of me also wants the Pro Max just for travel. But not enough to justify the cost.

I was never interested in Apple before but now that I am, I am seeing A TON of people hating on Apple for not being "easy to repair".
For example, You cannot put other faceid module to replace the one in your iphone if it breaks... OF COURSE YOU CANT ?! What security would it be if a thief could put hacked faceid module in your phone. Or if 3rd party repair shop could install chinese repalcement.

The fact is - Everyone is hanging dogs on apple but fail to see it's nothing new. On xbox 360 and ps3 it was also impossible at first to replace the drive if it broke. I know because I broke my first 360 trying to "hack" it.
I was still a teen and didn't had much money for games (I had quite a few original games still and later bought everything) so I forgot to copy the drive SN from my old drive before installing new firmware.. so I had no original SN to spoof and pair with motherboard. And at that time it was impossible to read drive SN from motherboard. Same with ps3 but it lasted few years more.

Not everything is as simple as it seems. Not everything is anti consumer. There are security systems and form factor design choices. Otherwise every phone would be thicker and have removable back cover. TBH I miss removable back and replaceable battery but I don't care. I would never replace the battery anyway but get a new phone 2 years later. always.

And then there are people "samsung is cheaper and better"... It's the same price or even more expensive. Accessories are the same price. Even charger is also 19usd. People like to hang dogs on the winning party and that was always the case. Same happening to Sony now too

For the form factor choice, you can look at all the modular phone on Android. I’m not aware of anyone of them being a success.
keeping things so small and packed isn’t an easy job.

Blame Linus for that.

That rocket scientist basically destroyed an iMac Pro and then flipped a fit when Apple told him tough shit on the repair and would just end him a new one in exchange.

My wife got her 13. I am still waiting for my pro.
I had limited time with it and it's super fast and super confusing so far.
I have few questions:
1)Is there no system keyboard swipe typing option?
2)Is there a point to download gmail or is it better to load gmail into their own built in email app?
3)Are contacts showing after enabling gmail in email app... are they copied to iphone/icloud or am I using and synchronizing google contacts ?!
4)WHAT?! There is no way to change waking alarm volume aside from ringer and messages notification volume ?!

I am holding with opinions until I get my own and spend some time with it :p

2) i always use the integration to the mail/contact and i don’t use the gmail application per say
3) in settings, go in contacts and there should be account there. You can add your gmail account.
4)I’m not sure

1) Swipe typing should be auto-enabled by default. Settings > general > keyboard > swipe to type toggle
2) I personally use the iOS email client for all my personal email addresses. The Gmail app is probably better equipped with Google specific stuff but IDK.
3) I believe you need to export your contacts and import into the contacts app. I forget though I do recall having issues prior to uploading into iOS Contacts.
A good way to test is by deleting Gmail and see if the contacts stay.
4) Waking alarm is max volume I think. Not certain though because I rarely set an alarm. I typically keep my ringer at mute & vibrate only and the alarm still sounds for me. You might need to test it out to verify.

apparently the new M1X macbooks (14/16") will come with 10 core CPU, 16GB RAM and 512GB as standard. they will have a 1080p webcam and Mini LED displays.

i'd love a 16" with those specs. kinda hope we get updated larger iMac with ~30" display.

I'm tempted to upgrade my 2019 16" MacBook Pro to a (hopeful) iMac Pro. It's not slow or anything, I just really want the form factor of the new iMacs and the M1(x?) chip. The Mrs. has the Mac mini w/ M1 chip and it's no joke. I also don't need the portability as work disabled MS Office apps on MacOS for some reason. Also, I have been using just my iPad as my go to personal device during travel so there's even less likelihood of me taking my MacBook anywhere.

Some interesting news on the health front:

Apple Studying Potential of AirPods as Health Device

Earbuds could be offered as hearing aids and include an in-ear thermometer and posture warnings

Apple Inc. is studying ways to make AirPods into a health device, including for enhancing hearing, reading body temperature and monitoring posture, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and people familiar with the plans.

The plans further demonstrate Apple’s ambition to add health and wellness features to devices beyond the Apple Watch, where most of the company’s health functions exist today. Apple is also working on technology that aims to use iPhones to help diagnose depression and cognitive decline, the Journal reported last month.

It isn’t clear if Apple is developing specific new hearing-aid features for AirPods or wants to market the earbuds’ existing hearing-improvement features as hearing aids. AirPods Pro, Apple’s higher-end earbuds, already offer features to improve hearing, including “conversation boost,” launched last week, that increases the volume and clarity of people in front of the wearer.

The proposed AirPods features aren’t expected by next year and might never be rolled out to consumers or the timing could change, cautioned people familiar with the company’s plans.

An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment.

A pple is already developing prototypes for AirPods to take wearers’ core body temperature from inside their ear, according to the documents reviewed by the Journal. The thermometer would be the second that Apple could add to its devices, including a new wrist temperature-sensor Apple may include in next year’s version of the Apple Watch, the Journal previously reported.

As for ergonomics, the AirPods would lean on the motion sensors in the earbuds and alert wearers of slouching and to improve their posture, according to the documents and a person familiar with the idea.

Offering AirPods as hearing aids could significantly expand their reach. Millions of people suffer from hearing loss, including many whose impairment is less severe and choose not to treat it, experts say.

New regulations, expected to be completed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration next year, would permit the sale of a new class of cheaper hearing aids direct to consumers to treat mild to moderate hearing loss.

About 28 million Americans suffer from mild hearing loss, yet only 5% use a hearing aid, estimates the Cochlear Center for Hearing and Public Health at Johns Hopkins. Another 12 million suffer from moderate hearing loss, though only 37% of this group use a hearing aid.

Dr. Nicholas Reed, an audiologist at Johns Hopkins, said the prospect of Apple offering future AirPods as an over-the-counter hearing aid would be a potential game-changer. He said that Apple’s ubiquitous earbuds can break the old-age stigma associated with traditional hearing aids, which often prevents people from wearing them, and would cost far less than traditional hearing aids.

AirPods may not be suited for some sufferers of hearing loss because they don’t yet have all-day battery life. Also, Apple has been beaten to the hearing-aid market by consumer electronics rival Bose, which sells an FDA-cleared hearing aid that consumers can customize themselves.

AirPods dominate the global Bluetooth headset market, generating $12.8 billion in revenue in 2020, estimates research firm Strategy Analytics—five times the figure of No. 2 player Bose.

The array of sensors in the devices, including microphones, an amplifier and a sophisticated processor, means AirPods Pro already contain much of the technology necessary to help sufferers of mild or moderate hearing loss, experts say.

The market for hearing aids is dominated by a handful of companies, and hearing aids can cost thousands of dollars. Cheaper “personal sound amplification products” are available in stores, but their quality is inconsistent, experts say.

AirPods can’t be marketed as hearing aids today because of federal regulations that date back decades to when many hearing aids were unsafe or ineffective. Those restrictions require the devices to be sold through licensed hearing specialists who tune the hearing aids to the wearer.

The FDA is working to complete safety and effectiveness rules as required by a 2017 law for a new category of over-the-counter hearing aids that consumers can tune themselves. The rules are expected to permit companies like Apple, Bose and Samsung to market cheaper hearing aids.
