It reminded me that I have one sitting in the closet. I should try some more recent games with it, because it's been a very long time.

Needs vs. Wants, interesting choice of words.

And why are there two "not interested"?

The poll choices the past few months, I swear, lol.

Astro Bot should be your first choice. Beat Saber, Wipeout, Tetris Effect, Moss are all good choices afterwards. Firewall Zero Hour as well if you have the Aim controller.

^ This guy knows what's up.

Really surprised by how many people are so adamant that they don't want VR, and are offended when folks try to change their minds. But at the same time, I don't want to go full Vegan and constantly "correct" everyone about it.

But for folks on the fence still, the thing to get across is that it's not like 3D or 4K which was just another format for consuming something you already had. VR is very much it's own medium, sure it's screen based and therefore the early applications are very much videogames and porn, but the magic of it is the sense of presence it creates when you remove the headset you feel like you've returned from somewhere else. It's surreal. and that's something that can never be transferred or watered down to say, a TV. I think it's also why folks so adamantly defend VR, as they are scared the medium will die off and that portal to other worlds will be lost.

As someone who always played games to escape from reality, it means VR is like a massive thing for me. But I can grasp that folks may enjoy gaming for a variety of reasons and so VR may or may not be a big deal for them personally.

But at least try the porn ;)

Not unless they find a fix for seasickness/nausea.

Psvr looked awesome, but feeling fucking sick for days, no thanks.

Maybe VR is just like that and not all can use it without getting sick

Anyone can use it without being sick so long as three conditions are met:

1. IPD adjustment must be correct.
2. The game must be hitting 90 FPS consistently.
3. The game does not artificially move you or cause off-putting movements in the world itself.

This means games like Beat Saber and Moss are fine for anyone to get into.

You also have options for fighting sickness in more intense games:

1. Comfort options. Vignetting, snap turning, teleportation, frame of reference.
2. Having a fan blowing on you.
3. Consuming ginger.

There is also a cure that would appear to work for motion sickness in general, but hasn't been implemented into VR headsets yet;

VR still the tech you want your neighbor to own.

And to put PSVR sales into perspective:

The Wii U sold ~13 million in ~4 1/2 years.

PSVR sold ~4.2 million in ~2 1/2 years.

That actually makes me even more impressed with PSVR. Maybe that was your point though.

For one, there's an additional cost barrier with PSVR in that you're required to own PS4, For two, it's VR, a technology that most people still haven't tried with all sorts of negative opinions about nausea and vomiting galore(which in my experience is incredibly inflated.)

Motion sickness is caused by the discrepancy between being seated and your brain perceiving your body walking. That's why free movement games are NOT recommended for starters. You have to start up step by step and then you will be fine. people who play RE7 or Skyrim as first VR games get very sick for obvious reasons. I suffered the same. Now I am immune.

Also, some very extreme experiences like Ace Combat may induce much sickness.. You would be sick if piloting a fighter in real life, too.

The sales argument is quite wrong. There is no new technology that was adopted by the masses. Remember the first smartphones? The first 4K tvs ? How many people had an iphone back then? how about a 4K TV? Do you all have one? If the answer is no, is 4K TV a failure and should be phased out ?

Nonsense.

Nope. Good to see Sony continue to support it but I actually think they bet on the wrong horse. MS’s bet on streaming and pass on VR is looking more and more like the correct call.

MS has a large bet on VR too. They have 7 partner headsets on PC, plenty of in-house R&D, and they have HoloLens which is part of the same spectrum. VR/AR is one of the Microsoft's most important long-term roadmaps.

My wife tried to turn on our PSVR today to play some Beat Saber and it didn't turn on. It has been having issues with the power button for a few days now, and I guess intermittent just wasn't good enough. After troubleshooting for a while (I must've rebuilt my entire entertainment center twice), we contacted Sony support which wanted $100 to repair it (and a few weeks), so we just ordered another one from Amazon for $250 (we're upgrading to the 2.0 headset too).

It really saddens me to see so many people that seem dead set against VR. We couldn't even go one night without it.

I'll let our weekly VR hate club know about these other threads with empty space. Thanks for the tip!

No problem. You fellas are gonna have alot of work to do in these threads in the next few years.
Alot of big name devs are investing in VR. Value, Insomanic, Sony first parties, even Nintendo is sending out the feelers, not to mention all the PC headsets that keep coming even after "failing" previously. Sony was ballsy to try VR with PS4 because of the inferior tech, that was easy to critique their results. I hope you enjoy it, but next gen, both major consoles will have powerful enough machines for much improved VR, and just imagine all the major games you'll be missing out on, or just taking away resources from monitor/TV games. I love it, because even if VR failed, I still have TV games to fall back on. You don't have a fallback, you just have to watch VR grow and hope it doesn't succeed. Helpless.

Yeah that is true, select people will care when it comes to their preferred platform. Just like game streaming. :pie_eyeroll:
That’s not at all where I meant to go on this, and one of those “negatives” was supposed to more positive, saying “I want to believe, but it’s not there yet”

Just like one of the positives was I wanted to believe and didn’t get converted.

You guys read too much into it sometimes.

Going forward I’ll just do yes or no. No nuance or anything.

This perspective does not work. Wii U is an 8th generation console. PSVR is a 1st generation headset.

Compare Wii U sales when we're on 8th gen headsets.

And to be honest, by the time we're on 8th generation headsets, these things should logically be selling at the rate of iPhones, not at the rate of consoles because they are a much wider ranging technology than an entertainment platform.

It isn't a comment on the potential of VR somewhere down the road.

The numbers just show that PSVR has sold worse than a failed platform.
