Anyone else playing it on hard and finding it hard to justify having a second tank vsa team of tank, rogue/dps and two mages? I find that I absolutely need two mages just so I can keep firing off barrier.

Going to spoiler tag this just in case, but I have a question about the lore in the game, i'm not very far in

So am I understanding this correctly? The Seekers of Truth were like the leaders/watchers of the templars, and both reported to the Chantry. The kirkwall stuff happened and mages rebelled. The templars split from the chanty and the seekers joined them?

Im a mage and constantly have Solas(to cast barrier). Im the primary mage DPS dealer in the party. Usually go with 1 tank and 1 rouge. Cassandra's guards usually keeps her alive.

You guys made me buy it...

Downloading it through origin as I type. DA:O Was a good rpg but was kind of let down, was hyped for it to be a true successor of baldur's gate. Maybe I was asking too much. The sequel was a huge disapointment, the game didn't last long on my HDD. Only played through it to know the ending. But I was honestly forcing myself, not fun.

I hope this one redeem it!

Is it the one where he meets his dad in that pub place in Hinterlands?
Didn't work for me at first, had to leave and re-enter Hinterlands.

On hard I'm not feeling pressured to have 2 of anything. I just pick characters I want to hear banter from. Hell, sometimes I run 2 rogues for the hell of it.

Yeah, whats the more appropriate route of action to take? I just started the game. Doing some sidequests in the Hinterlands. Should I do all the sidequests that I can as soon as possible or should I proceed with the story before tackling these.

I don't think so. That is what's preventing you from getting into the castle, right?

There was this weird moment in the mage quest
where I was making my way through Redcliffe castle, I open a door to a side room and my party starts going "Oh my God!" and my character had dialogue to shout "Connor!", then Varric said "he fought that demon to the end"...

But the room was empty, I couldn't see any evidence of Connor, and didn't understand how my character would know him - or anyone else in the party for that matter. Are you somehow able to visit the castle in normal times before the mage quest starts?

Yeah, that was very weird...neither Varric or the herald should have any idea who
connor
was. I think I saw him for a second though as I entered that room.

Its a way to tell you that you will be under leveled if you progress before you have enough power. I think it works fine... and how do you not have enough power?? The entire game ive had at least 40-60 more power than necessary to progress the story.

I just spent 70 power on the latest 2 story missions. Then I spent 4 to unlock a mission in an area I've already unlocked. So I have 7 power remaining. I'm level 16 at the moment. But I just don't enjoy doing some of the side quests. Especially because of all the traveling that is required and going to and from different areas.

Wait a sec... I'm currently in the Hinterlands. Should I be leaving ASAP?

Mess around in the Hinterlands for a bit to level up and gather enough power to do the next story quest or two. Doing so will open up the opportunity to unlock new areas and to recruit new companions.

The game is chock full of MMO style fetch quests so it is recommended to leave the Hinterlands so A) you don't over level the story content and B) you don't burn out of the game by grinding side content before experiencing some of the more diverse and interesting environments, quests, decisions, and characters the game has to offer.

I regret leaving ASAP. Playing on hard and had a difficult time with a certain boss because I barely did any side content before getting to it.
The Envy Demon when picking up the templars. Asshole just kept one shotting my party members. Was only able to kill him through sheer persistence.
I would have did much better had I focused on exploring more and getting geared up. I suggest anyone playing on anything harder than normal focus on getting at least tier 2 gear before focusing heavily on the story.

Has anyone encountered bugs in Western Approach (PS4)? I tried doing a quest where you
need to find... Servis? but he's nowhere to be found. I even watched a video and I'm at the right place but he's just not there.

Once I couldn't complete that I went ahead to continue
the quest where you fight grey wardens using blood magic. Every time the grey warden that came along with me spoke the game didn't advance.
I had to press square a few times to try and skip but I think I missed some dialogue. It kept doing it for as long as I was in that area and eventually square didn't do anything but going to the PS4 main menu and back made the game continue. Weird. It happened again later on that quest before I got to
The Fade.

I'm not sure if I should continue playing (it hasn't happened after that) or wait for a patch. I'm worried my save file will end up corrupted or something.

Other than that... great game :) even better when I found that my DA:O data was found in the Keep. I didn't even remember linking the game.

Anyone else turned off some of the hud elements? I turned off the damage numbers, and the words advising the status effects. I find it makes it more immersive, and you can tell enough from the visual cues.

Of course I'm playing on 'normal' and basically just doing it as an action RPG...

Knight Enchanter maxed out with all the relevant/required Barrier abilities + 3 Guard on Hit Armor = LOLOLOLOL

Even Dragons can be solo'd without having your green bar touched on Nightmare mode.

Mental stuff.

The Lord Seeker at the time declared the Seekers and Templars split. Most followed but not all, which is why some templars and Seekers (such as Cassandra) are still officially with the Chantry as of the beginning of DA: I.

I've found that it doesn't really matter; all of the areas are designed according to the same paradigm. Just depends on which coat of paint you want to do your MMO-style quests on; a forest, a swamp, a desert, etc.

Other zones have a tighter focus (except Hissing Wastes) and an interesting zone quest (such as Crestwood and the Emprise).

Didn't work for me at first, had to leave and re-enter Hinterlands.

I can't even start Dorian's personal quest. The questgiver (
Mother Giselle
) doesn't appear in the correct location (
main hall
). It's apparently a known bug with no user-side fix.

When should I start the attack on the tear? Recommended levels 8-11, I am level 9

I am trying to do other quests, but did a whole lot in Hinterlands and the desert oasis, though I need more shards to advance there.

I could go to the marshes, but that's where my save file crashed last time, So I've been avoiding it.

Can I do the tear mission and still do all the other missions? Is the tear the end of the first act?

Through some amount of quitting/restarting voodoo, I was able to get Dorian's previously bugged quest to trigger.

Solas's on the other hand, bugged quite hard and I just finished the game. I don't think it makes much of a difference anyway, but the point of no return is very clear and there isn't much game left after it, so you can just make a save, finish, and go back if/when the game is patched and you feel like you have to finish.

If only they could let you name saves so I could tell which was which...

I guess people were too embarrassed by their numerous "pre-sex" saves.

Yes, it's the end of act 1 but do it now. Shit's about to get real.

I did it at level 9 and managed perfectly fine. The mission is quite long though, so be sure you have some time.

Both issues happened to me too but I don't think they are related. I haven't had any issues since.

Knight enchanter is arcane warrior 2.0 and I'm loving it to death. Even Solas says it's derived from aw. Aww yiss

Any patch notes?

Regarding banter, how frequent is it supposed to be? I get banter once every 20-30 minutes or so. Should it be more frequent?

That's a bit of a low estimate of what is "normal", but the bug is, like, none-ish.

It depends on your party, and what you're doing. If you've been rolling with the same party for a while, you may have nearly exhausted the limit as to what can trigger during that part of the game. Or you aren't doing anything to trigger the dialogue. Or you aren't doing quests that have dialogue with your character.

Story missions and the "major" sidequests in each zone (like Crestwood) have a ton of quest-specific banter, but most don't.

I put it off long enough. I just finished the game at level 24 with my dagger rogue. The game has it's flaws but it is my GOTY and no other game is even close. I just started a mage playthrough and I am having a blast again. Fadestep = awesome...

Thanks, Troy

And how many "Acts" are there anyway?

People initially described the game as having "acts" because the end of "act 1" is such a huge milestone, but in truth we don't get a linear milestone like that again until the end of the game. The next two big story points can be tackled in any order you like so it's hard to call either one the beginning or end of an act. I prefer to think of Inquisition as having a first half and a second half.

What side areas am I missing? I'm holding off on any story missions because of the voice bug, so I'm waiting for the patch. The areas I've completed are:

Hinterlands
Oasis
Fallow Mire
Storm Coast
Emerald Graves
Western Approach
Exalted Plains

Any more 100% optional areas I can do or am I gonna have to wait for the patch?

Just killed the final Wisp for the specialisation, PC blue screened with a nice Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area, rebooted it, loaded Dragon Age. 40 hour save game corrupted, I just don't have it in me to start again, again (I played 20 hours before realising my world state was incorrect).

Ah, man, first world problems. My PC had been super stable until I got this GTX 980.

Edit. Oh it appears it corrupeted a save and a profile, but my actual profile is fine, well one save back. Let's go kill that wisp!

I don't know if you can access the Emprise or Hissing Wastes based on where you are in the story but Crestwood should be available.

I have those in the war table but I think the main story takes me there. Are there any areas left where the main story doesn't touch?

The main story does not take you to Emprise or Hissing Wastes. It does take you to Crestwood but it's for total of five minutes.
