Probably something we'll see more and more as the generation progresses.

This is 5 or 6 weeks that the PS5 has surpassed the Switch, right?

edit: Also, the Digital vs Physical ratio is interesting:
PS5 – 60,403
PS5 Digital Edition – 18,009

A third of all PS5 consoles sold this week were digital. If this keeps up these Famitsu charts are less and less relevant for PS5 software numbers tbh.

Wo Long only did 30k on a install base of 3 millions? That can't be good.

And the PS5 is already down compared to the previous weeks. Maybe the repressed demand has already been met, and now the PS5 will decline week over week until it meets its true baseline/demand? We will see that in the following weeks.

Octopath Traveler 2 had a great hold, but the numbers are still bad. Here's hoping word of mouth keeps pushing the number up.

Switch did better this week, but nothing to write home about.

PS5 sold nearly 80k without anything special releasing. It was selling close to 90k. It's not weird if Sony doesn't have close to 100k ready for Japan every single week, lmao.

We go from PS4, PS5 games not charting at all tho...

Why are you trying so hard to find any negatives? Seeing your post right after Tiago Rodrigues Tiago Rodrigues is something...

I'm being honest about my analysis. If it's positive or negative is just a consequence, not a cause.

Plus, I do 100% believe that the PS5 sales number right now is due to repressed demand due to the supply issues. Once that is met, the numbers should drop in theory.Hence why the next weeks/months should be important.

I wonder what Wo Long digital and global sales are?

If PS5's high sales are due to repressed demand then that must mean the PS5 is a more desirable console to the Japanese public than PS3 and PS4 because it is above those consoles launched aligned and yet demand is still much higher than them.

What do you think the baseline for PS5 will be? What are you projecting for this years sell through numbers?

There is repressed demand, but you have no idea how much... The numbers will drop, but to what exactly?

That you said weeks/months suggests to me that you're hedging on weeks. You realize that over the next 7 weeks or so demand may still be quite high, so you say months to save face. What you haven't factored in probably is that FF16 is likely to give the PS5 a strong boost within 4 months if supply stays strong.

You have
RE4 - March 24th
SF6 - June 2nd
FF16 - June 22nd

That's a very strong first half of the year.

Well, if I knew that, I wouldn't be here telling you all that for free, but actually selling that information and making a fortune.

Hence why I said: Only time will tell. But sure, just to humor you: If said numbers hold somewhat strong until FF VXI, then that's most likely the new baseline.

Very robust numbers for Sony and Nintendo, but it hurts to watch the low sales of Metroid Prime Remastered.

PS5 software sales are still struggling in Japan despite the console is already at 3 million mark(2.6 million for disk version). The main reason for that's the rampant scalping that happened during 2020-2022 and only recently the stock for the actual console demand in Japan is finally being bought by the japanese gamers. So, the actual number of PS5 in Japan is much lower than what appears on sales chart.

Another thing to keep in mind is the Final Fantasy 16 preorder situation in Japan which is horrifyingly bad in comparison to FFXV and FF7R.

Tell me the months where they didn't sell out everything the second they had stock.

Horrible sales. Yet, it's outpacing even the PS4. Weird.
The PS4 sold a bit more than 9 million units in Japan. I would have to check, but I'm pretty sure it's within the group of worst selling consoles of all time in Japan.Congrats?

Plus, selling out isn't a good metric by itself. Having high nominal sales AND selling out is a good sign. Selling out by itself simply means that the manufacturer didn't sent enough units. Which could mean a number of things(Underestimated the demand, doesn't bother sending enough units bevause demand isn't high enough, supply issues, etc), and not necessarily that it is a hot item.

Pretty sure the Xbox Series had a few months were it was sold out. Is MS going to dominate the Japanese market now?

The PS5 managed to hit 1 million in Japan faster than the PS4, and despite global shortages they managed to keep the PS5 within spitting distance of the PS4 and PS3 when launch aligned until they got their supply issues sorted. And yet some will claim they don't care about Japan and treat it as a secondary market.

Nonsense.

They did the best they could in a bad situation and now that's passed they're getting back on track in all regions, Japan included.

The PS4 is only behind the rest of the Playstation consoles, the NES, and the SNES in Japan. It sold more than every other console. Pretty significantly too, the PC Engine is a couple million away but everything else is 4+ million consoles away.

I think this will be PS5's peak year, the peak year for PS3 was 1.76 million and the peak year for PS4 was 1.94 million. PS5 seems to be in much higher demand and has already sold almost 700k in the first 10 weeks, i am going to say between 2.75 and 3 million for the year.

12 consoles on the list that sold more in Japan than PS4.
34 consoles on the list that sold worse than the PS4

It really doesn’t look like xbox sales in Japan are gonna recover. Not even sellin 2k consoles a week anymore this year aside from the week pre-price increase

I think they’ve fallen in line with the xbox one there

"If we ignore the hybrid Switch, the NES, the Super Nintendo, The PS1, the PS2 and all the portable consoles, which are ~half of all consoles released, the PS5 is doing great!!!"

Please let me know where you saw that.

But to answer your question:

PS5 78,412
NSW 66,525
PS4 1,655
XBS 848

No, I don't see that happening.
Famitsu.Series had a few weeks where it sold 5k(Though that could be a error on famitsu's end). You can look that up yourself. But I'm willing to admit I may be misremembering this one.

Getting back to the original topic: Let's see how long the PS5 can keep these numbers, and if its not just repressed demand.

5K is the max Microsoft could allot to a region?

And why should I be responsible for fact-checking YOUR data. If you don't know, don't pull it put of your ass.

Own up to your own statements
He's doing a lot of these "I'm not sure, but let's just pretend it is" statements in this thread.
