So I'm interested in doing some video guitar and bass covers. In the past I've used a video recorder and a miked amp, but the sound quality is frequently iffy.

I bought a Focusritr 2i2 interface to do some other recording and was wondering if there was a good process for video covers recording with an interface. I've tried piping the audio directly into video recorder software, but I get some latency, so that won't work. Any good software solutions here?

Thanks.

if you're using vsts, you can use a plugin called voxengo recorder to output the sound from your daw to a sound channel your recording software (i use obs) can pick up.

Nice, I always wanted the Particle. Seems like an idea generator.

Are you using the DD7 for looping?

Latency is usually a processor issue, at least for my setup. Make sure all background tasks or programs are shut down.

Particle is interesting. It's so unique and has plenty of musical modes but def has a huge learning curve. I've spent a year with the Count to Five and even in the first few months felt at ease with it but the Particle still has me baffled.

Using DD7 for Reverse delay mainly, occasionally looping. I have a ditto that I'll use when I want to do 'heavy' looping.

I'm replacing the nut on my strat. I'm getting some bad buzz in my open g string. I just popped it off and it looks like this.
35591513190_9b8d5c9f69_b.jpg

It's not flat on the bottom but it's also not rounded. The bass half is noticeably wider.

Would you suggest this one

Or this one?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004FF6V8G/?tag=neogaf0e-20

If there's a different nut you'd recommend I'm open to that too. Thanks.

Don't buy a stock nut, have one made specifically for it. A stock nut will do nothing for you and might not even fit.

More than likely your buzzing wasn't from the nut but from something else (aka you need a restring and setup)

While the nut was out I decided to do an experiment. I put a bit of paper under the nut and put the nut back in to raise it a mm or so. I tuned up and the buzz was gone. Would this point to the nut being too short/cut too deep?

Got my new ESP H-308 8 string over the weekend, this baby is SIIIICKKKKKK. Plays like a dream and intonates perfectly all the way down the neck even when I tune to Drop-E, which I was worried about since it's a short-scale 8 string.

Now it's time to learn some Animals As Leaders and Meshuggah songs :)

It also looks like the low E slot was manually widened to accommodate a thicker gauge or maybe just worn down a bit? It just looks a little rounded off to me.

If you're seriously looking at getting a new nut, check out Graph Tech. I replaced them on all my guitars and I've had no issues with them. They have many different sizes so just find one that is for your model guitar, or even better, measure your current one, length, height & width and find one with the same dimensions.

So I finalized my Pedalboard. While its fun to play around with its way to big when I lug it to gigs .... and not using half of the pedals on it. :/

Anyway - going to let THON (Thomann) build a custom case for me, and then there should be no reason left to weasel around practicing more :D

What are the pedals with the pink cats and the executor? I'm not familiar with those. I also have a Warden compressor and I really like it a lot, works well on bass too.

I know I'm just starting with this guitar journey thing but I'm super excited about getting my first pedal ever tomorrow and it's a looper, Boss RC-3, should make practice a lot more fun.

Where can I see/listen content from this thread? where are the soundcloud links, the recorded gigs and so on?

So much stuff so little time, the midi capable expression pedal leads to really cool options (its hocked to the möbius, timeline and transmission reverb) but i have jet to really set everything up. :'(

The one with the cats is the "BDSM" => big distortion sound machine by Devi Ever Fx, its two Fuzz pedals in one, pretty hard to tame since in my setup a lot of configurations lead to uncontrollable feedback - i love it.

The executor is a pedal made by me :D It's a bank selector for the Looper-switcher.

Been playing guitar for many years, but was so on and off and I know Ive hit a wall.

I know my notes but dont really know how to move around it. I guess my question is, how do people look at chords for songs, and then turn them into a melody? Like Im looking at songs online but they dont have tabs or sheet music, just chords. And Im really struggling to learn the notes within the chords to play to the tune of a song, or just not really good at strumming individual notes within chords.

I feel like Ive hit a huge wall that Ive never really bothered to learn.

Look at the chords, figure out the key, play notes in that key. Depending on the song/genre/idiom you might play a melody in a different key, but you still have to figure out the key the chords are in.

I have no idea what playing "in the key" means... or I may have forgotten.

Anyways, from there, do I just practice scales or something?

Edit: OK so from what I remember, I find the key of a song, and then there are like 7 notes in that scale. But do songs focus on those notes, or do some songs use notes outside of a certain key. And how does one figure out the key of a guitar song exactly?

Guitar is immaterial to it. I'm going to write this out for a song major key (happy!). For a given key, some chords are major and some are minor (and others).

e.g., in C, the chords are C, F, G (or G7), Dm, Em, Am, Bdim. The major chords correspond to the first, fourth, and fifth notes of the scale, while the minor chords are the second, third, and sixth, with a diminished chord being on the seventh. These are commonly denoted with uppercase (major) and lowercase (minor) roman numerals.

So, if you have a song that goes:

| E | B | C#m | A | E | B | E | A |

You can see that you have E, A, B major chords and a C# minor chord. This lines up with E, whose major scale is E F# G# A B C# D# E.

It can get more complicated— e.g. Don't Think Twice by Bob Dylan, which has C, C7, F, G, G7, D7, Am. Mostly it's C, but that D7 sticks out.

Jesus. That's insane. How do you manage that on stage?

Well ist pretty easy with the loopswitcher (the big thing on the buttom) every pedal is connected to it and I can programm patches with a combination of Pedals. So most of the time it's just pressing one button to radically change the sound. My pedalboard is like an multi fix pedal, just mostly analog and with interchangeable pedals :D

Yep. That's a Gigrig G2 switcher. It's what Dan and Mick use on That Pedal Show on YouTube. Very nice gear. Very expensive professional kit (around $1100 right?).

I've been using Planet Waves Joe Satriani straps for quite some time now. I have four of them now. I've had no issues, they very comfortable to me, though if you are first starting you may want to look at something a bit wider.
Yeah, I have a couple myself. I did buy a wide leather strap which makes carrying heavy guitars a little easier but it's a little short for my stature.

I have a couple Planet Waves straps, they're solid... But I have this for my bass - super comfortable even with heavier instruments.

Also Schaller-style strap locks on all my electrics because apparently I'm incapable of attaching a strap securely on the stock buttons. ^^;

New Ibanez S520 on the way! From what I can tell, I may be the first one with this color - Transparent Black Sunburst (TKL).
Just released this month. Only one store I know had it so far. It's not even officially up on the Ibanez site yet, I pulled this hidden Ibanez page up through google search. Hopefully I'll be posting pics in a few days if all goes well.

Current pedal set-up, which I think should do me for a while. I've been 'refining' over the years and currently mega happy with it.

Is there a thread suitable for posting my band's music? I wanna plug it somewhere without being a pest!

How do you like that Red Witch tremolo? I've been looking into their Seven Sisters series due to their small footprint.

What's up Guitar Gaf!

I got question for you. I put some new strings on just a week ago and they're already black where I play. I just have plain Ernie Ball's regular slinky. I'm pretty sure it's always like that, I suppose it's because my fingers get a bit sweaty when I play for a while. I try to wipe it down afterwards, but it doesn't really help much. Do you guys have any recommendation for some strings that last a bit longer without sounding weird, cos of the coating or whatever.

I'm also getting an EHX 720 looper this weekend. Pretty excited about that, hope I can figure it out easily. I'm definitely looking forward to practicing with my own backing tracks, but I also hope to figure out something more creative with it.

And I gotta share this dream guitar... I haven't actually visited the shop yet, I probably shouldn't to guard my wallet.

I would try coated strings. I've not used them on electric, but use and love various Elixers and EXPs on my acoustics. They cost 2-3x as much but last so much longer. The strings will still wear out from losing elasticity, but they don't wear out due to corrosion.

I have Dunlop ones on all but one of my electrics (which has Schaller). Much prefer the Dunlop ballbearing mechanism.

Haven't encountered the Dunlop style (Straplok?) locks, looks interesting. I think I've already invested in too many Schaller locks on my straps and guitars to switch (and they've served their purpose perfectly - I don't gig though :p), but definitely interested in checking out ballbearing-based locks if I get the chance.

I have a 720 as well, great pedal. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time - it's really straightforward despite being loaded with a lot of features for such an inexpensive looper.

And that guitar is indeed gorgeous. High-five for offsets. :3

Hey folks,

Wanna set up a small home studio with some inheritance I just received. Must be able to be played quietly, so I was looking into load boxes. Thinking something like this:

Fender Bassbreaker 15 head - - > Suhr Reactive Load Box - - > Interface - - > DAW.

With monitor headphones would this work relatively okay? I know that you've got to keep the tube amps plugged into a cab/load box otherwise it can damage it. Would this do the job?

The Bassbreaker 15 has a line out already that can be used without a cab; worth trying it before getting the Suhr.

Edit: reading mixed reviews of the built-in line out.

I don't actually have a Bassbreaker either, that'll be part of the purchasing. But yeah didn't hear great things about the line out either. After some more research looks like the Two Notes Torpedo Live might be a good option as it is a load box plus cab sim. Expensive though.

Picked this up about a week and a half ago, and I've been really happy with it so far; seems like my search for the perfect Tele (for me!) is finally over...

Dmm2ARv.jpg

2012 Fender Select Chambered Ash Telecaster... It's light (6.75 lbs), resonant, snappy... growls with gain... twangs like pure Bakersfield...

3mvjb7g.jpg

These were positioned between the American Deluxe Tele and Custom Shop Teles in the Fender catalog... Just crazy beautiful woods all around... even the case is lovely...

4SzrDzU.jpg

There's even a little fancy medallion whatsit in the back of the headstock... and ya, I could live without the gold tuners, but what are you going to do when everything else is perfect?

gAKw1xC.jpg

9.5"-14" compound radius finger board with medium jumbo frets and six saddle bridge means the guitar practically plays itself and stays perfectly in tune even when comping complex chords around the 12th fret... very sweet...
