Anyway, great second week for Project Hacker there as well, keeping Loco Choke-o down :)

And look at this:

PS2 Battle Stadium DON - 49,000 / 31% [NEW] (wasn't this from a 180,000 shipment?)
NGC Battle Stadium DON - 35,000 out of a ~60,000 unit initial shipment

Shows the GC can still compete on some level, at least.

Yes, they were trying to get it released here before year end, but it doesn't seem like it. Expect it in Q1 or Q2 of 2007 in Europe.

I haven't been to Japan since December, before sales absolutely exploded.

I have to ask, Japan Gaf, is it just that every single person on every single train in the country is flaunting a DS? Pretty soon there will be enough sold for everyone to have an extra DS Lite that's just for show.

i wonder if pokémon ranger will continue to have good legs, the movie came out on the 15th and looks to be doing well, with a similar performance to last years film:

ACWW - 3 million in ~~1 week
More Brain training - 3 million in ~~3 weeks
New Super Mario Bros. - 3 million in ~~5 weeks
Brain Training - 3 million in ~~12 weeks

EDIT: NSMB 4 million? Without a doubt. It will slow down, but 4 million is almost certain, IMO.

It's almost certain that it will hit 4 million. Even if it slows down considerably, Nintendo's wares always have amazing legs.

NSMB sales actually went up. That is crazy. I wonder how long it can keep selling 100,000+ per week. If it can do it up untill it hits 3.5million, could the game possibly hit 5million?


262,000 DS units is also damn crazy. I wonder if Nintendo is now taking new colors ultra seriously, charting out new colors to keep demand up.

Does anyone have any inkling what color would be a big hit as well?

Hey, for the sales-charts masters, I have Super Mario Land(GB) bieng the best selling non pack-in Mario game ever in Japan at 4.19 million copies.

Is that right?


If it is, its looking like NSMB could become the best selling Mario game of all time in Japan.

It will easily do that, without a doubt.
At the end of the 2006 NSMB will be the best selling DS game in Japan, above AC WW, Brain Training 2 and Brain Training. (of course if we count both versions of Pokemon D/P as one game, then Pokemon P/D will become the best selling DS game in Japan at the end of the year)

I hope Nintendo can supply +250k/week DS Lite in Japan. There is a demand for that amount per week.
NSMB legs are awesome. Now its sales is higher than any recent FFs sales in Japan and it shows no slow down at all.

So, is it safe to say the videogame market (in Japan) is expanding substantially now?

The DS is absolutely CRAZY right now, absolutely CRAZY.

It's mind-boggingly what it's doing, AND NINTENDO STILL HASN"T RELEASED POKEMON YET.

And not to be overlooked, PSP is still doing very nicely in Japan. Tho DS is lambasting it, the PSP has been keeping a consistently nice pace in Japan for a while now, selling about 110 - 120k a month. Hm... maybe a little worse than "ok" but it's still up there.

And do you guys think New Super Mario Bros. can outsell Brain Age and Animal Crossing? The game DID show slow down in the past weeks and was boosted because of those new DS Lites, but even if it does slow down substantially, it should hang around the Top 10 for a long time (a la the unstoppable ANimal Crossing).

And who is picking up those Brain Age 2 games? It should not be selling so much at this long in the race. 72,000? There's no way NSMB could catch up if they keep up these strong legs, since NSMB (like ACWW) will eventually drop to about 30,000 a week while BA2 just keeps on with it's 50-70,000

Amazing.

When you look at it, Nintendo has had an incredible ability to spark PHENOMENONS in the entire world. It's not often a videogame company can create crazes compared to the size of political demonstrations and elections, riots, wars etc., but Nintendo has time and time again done it:

First Mario
then Donkey Kong
then Pokemon (which was the biggest f'in craze of them all)

now the DSLite, which will be made even bigger with Pokemon.

If ONLY they could hook that US market in for good, they've got to kill that GBA
