only if this game had proper multiplayer elements: career modes, proper multiplayer modes, defined multiplayer activities
there are so many things they could've done to attract casuals. it is a brilliant starting point at its core, it is just misused. hardcore simmers will already play the game on high end PCs with special setups, why bother bringing it to xbox and pay the maintance cost if you're not going to bother with properly game-ifying it??

check out the half dozen third party extensions for the game that add everything you mention ... if not a better multiplayer. Its been a year since I played but even in 2021 there were some excellent companion programs that made the game even better. I'm sure some of the more regular players here can recommend their favorites.

If you're relegated to the Xbox version I'm not sure how your mileage may vary though ...

I just really wanted that Top Gun Maverick tie in to be a full multiplayer arcade action game. Missed opportunity there.

It would be brilliant to license the Flight/Asobo tech out to a dev with some chops in that space. PvE and PvP are ripe for this game.

I only just read this today...

One has to wonder about convergence of metaverse stuff and a "digital Earth copy" Asobo/Flight are consistently updating. Reading these parts -

India has just joined the open data initiative; something common in much of the rest of the world, and a scheme that Microsoft is a part of. The Indian government has also announced plans to fund the scanning of the top 100 cities in the country, creating exactly the sort of data needed to craft Flight Simulator’s ‘digital twin’ of the earth.

Japan was the first one. There was no flight simming. They didn't even play PC games, right? So flight simming wasn't at all the thing. They had Ace Combat - which is totally different.

“And now in Japan there's – depending on the day – 50 to 100,000 people. In Japan! Still today – this is two years ago that we did this update, and they are now simmers.”

I'm guessing here, but the backend systems from the open data initiative and Flight really lend themselves to a metaverse or second life or games even built off this tech. Spin it up and boom a real time world just waiting to be repurposed, populated, altered and played in. AR/VR/metaverse, it's all extendable from this framework. To this day I'm super impressed with the tech and connected systems Asobo has given Flight off of the Azure backend. Here's hoping MS/Xbox/Asobo push this framework into something open source or commercially viable for a range of interesting projects.

vailable now! In conjunction with World Update XII: New Zealand, Microsoft Flight Simulator today released the eighth aircraft in the “Local Legends” series. From aerospace manufacturer de Havilland Canada, the DHC-4 Caribou is a twin-engine, short takeoff and landing aircraft originally developed as a military cargo and troop carrier.

The Caribou has a distinct, utilitarian look, featuring a long, narrow fuselage with a rear cargo ramp and elevated tail section, allowing for easy and efficient loading and offloading of equipment and personnel. It can also execute in-flight drops of equipment and paratroops on demand. The DHC-4 Caribou is a beast of an aircraft that is a true aviator’s machine. It can fly into and out of almost any airstrip and responds confidently to every pilot input.

The DHC-4 Caribou includes seven liveries, and is available today in the Microsoft Flight Simulator in-sim marketplace for $14.99. The sky is calling!
