Sony's lead graphics designer point blank said on Twitter that the PlayStation 5 is a 1.0/2.0 hybrid which is further backed by its 5700 XT modified configuration, so there's that.

For Series X it's a 56 CU GPU for starters coupled with 560GB/s of bandwidth so there's that... Pretty simple really.

I don't remember him sayng it as "hybrid".
But I do remember talking about features.
We all know that RDNA2 = 7nm + RT
Both of these are in PS5.
If some other minor feature is missing, I don;t see how it's not RDNA2 and why it's even a problem.

I don't see it that different.
RAM crossbar is configurable.
They will use even denser ones for their CDNA stuff.
Overall chip config is same though:
2 SA of 2 WG each. Having just more CUs per WG in XBSX case.

In The GPU, ps5 compresses the Vector shaders and decompresses in the pixel shaders for more rendering performance. Its patented by Cerny and Naughty dog and was released to public last week, just before the teardown....Strange that......

I'm interested in the benefits. All I could find was this paper from 2015 that says it's common practice to compress Vertex shader data.

So Cerny says it's RDNA2, AMD says it's RDNA2 and then somebody else says its "architecture" is "inbetween" (btw, such word does not exist in English).
And when asked about what does it mean he confirms that he was talking about specific features.
What does it mean to you? What exactly PS5 lacks to not be a "Big Navi"?
Let's start with simple questions:
1. Is Ps5 7nm?
2. Does Ps5 has TX support for BVH? (commonly called RT-support)

Oh no my xbox console warrior sense is tingling, someone somewhere maybe talking negatively about the XSX, super force too action!

For the record i think both systems are great and will be getting both day 1 sooooo maybe you should focus your efforts on someone who actually gives two shits what you think.

Also you're trying to conflate misspelling with misspeaking, they're completely different things and it was most certainly the former. What he was saying was fundamentally clear, even more so by him citing the PlayStation 4 Pro as a GCN 2/4 hybrid which it most assuredly was...

Of course the PlayStation 5 is 7nm, it's Navi, all of Navi is 7nm.. and yes it supports RT, do you not understand what a hybrid is?

I have been really looking forward to a deep dive video on this content but sadly haven't found one yet. A few channels did some wave top stuff but no deep dives yet. I figured this would have had way more traction and attention by now.

He said he "thinks" one less, also there's more than just feature sets at play. With a newer architecture comes efficiency improvements you do not get by building from an older architecture and adding to it.

Furthermore the fact that there's features missing really says it all, if things are missing it can't possibly be RDNA 2. None of this changes anything I or he said, it's a 1.0/2.0 hybrid.

Live with it, because you're going to have to for the next 6-8 years.

well, here's the thing:
xbox x worked out pretty well for me though...
best quality multiplatforms,
a thousand lightyears better build quality than my ps4pro
and added great bonus,
a full rejuvenation of some of my most favorite older games in full 4k

sorry that I dont give a shit about microsoft or sony selling more consoles than each other as they both rake in the billions,
but you see, since a good 20 years I pay them both,
and my only concern is where my money spent are enjoyed better.

oh, and since the time sony became a specialist on single player dramatic 3rd person novels,
I can also say that most of the ps4 exclusives I've bought (not all, but most of them) could very easily have been ...rentals

so please, quit the console sales pitch nonsense, or take it to a sales thread.

Touchy much lol, i wasnt referring to game sales. I was referring to the PSpro have some games that actually performed better on it hence the "all" capitalization in my og response.

Apologies for me not reading the entire thread, first, but has the discussion about asymmetric memory been finalised?

From the slides I noticed that the word "interleaved" is used in regards of the high (10GB) and low (6GB) memory accesses, and noticed the two SoC coherency fabric MCs(memory controllers, plural?) blocks on the APU diagram - also counting the 10 x 16bit channels on each that are definitely giving the 320bit in an odd configuration (IMHO).

In the next-gen thread - a few months back at the XsX DF specs reveal - someone from Era was being quoted about the memory contention on the XsX - saying accessing the slower memory cost memory performance - and despite it making perfect sense (to me at least) the issue was never settled AFAIK and constantly refuted that the unified 448GB/s was in real-terms superior to the XsX setup.

In a conversation back then I made the analogy of a weird RAID setup - and my belief that data will need copied from the CPU 6GB to the 10GB for use, because the interleaving will be different for the 10GB and 6GB and the GPU needs packed/strided data with the same interleaving in all likelihood (IMHO) - but until it was confirmed the memory accesses were interleaved it was something I felt I couldn't be sure about, but with the slide saying "interleaved" I thought it was worth a rerun, in case someone else has a different take on the info.

From my understanding (factoring 10 and 6 channels to 5 and 3 for my analogy) this is like having 5x HDD channels, each with a HDD attached – except 3 of the 5 have drives that are twice the capacity. You take half the large drive capacities and stripe your C:> drive across three channels, then you take the remaining 5 capacities that are all equal in size and stripe your D:> drive across those. - a solution that compromise performance for storage use. You then compare performance to a system with just 4 channels and 4 identical drives, that has striped an unnamed partition across all four – then used name aliasing and quotas to logically limit usage for C:> and D:> but with no downsides. The second system has middle performance compared to the 3 and 5 channel stripe sets when only one is accessed, but anyone that has used a computer knows that the 4 channel setup in real-world conditions is faster, and faster by a decent margin.
