A new online mini-series based on the Equestria Girls mini-figures has started. This first short is about Pinkie.
I was waffling a bit on whether to post this in the OT or here, but this seems like a lower level of "official content" than what I like to post there, since they didn't even get Andrea Libman for Pinkie, and this short is only 24 seconds. Plus, oddly enough, Pinkie has a human skin tone (but with pony ears--still human skin tone).

Before the season 5 finale, I was considering leaving it out of the necessary episodes list; without that episode, you could argue that whenever the Crystal Empire is brought up, a viewer could just assume that Cadance always ruled that place. However, "The Cutie Re-Mark" went ahead and made the Sombra timeline a big deal, and that part would likely give a viewer a "wait, did I miss something?" reaction if we left "The Crystal Empire" out. Plus, you could argue that it gives some build up to the otherwise sudden "Magical Mystery Cure".
I am still a bit unsure about it, so I'd be willing to hear arguments against it.

The show villains without the books and comics are about as important as your standard Marvel movie villain. They only exist to fill the villain role.
Ehhh, I mean, sometimes. Certainly I'll concede it was true of Sombra.
As I say though, this is also the introduction of the Crystal Empire (and the position of Cadance and Shining Armor within it). I think that alone makes it valuable for new viewers.

I'd agree it was important if it had been used for anything except the venue for the Equestria Games. It's ultimately just another location in Equestria.

With Sleepless in Ponyville batting a thousand and the other two episodes in the CMC/Luna series amassing a good number of votes, I'm throwing my lot in with Bloom & Gloom and For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils to complete the trio.
I've also updated my Season 4 & 5 lists to prop up both Rarity Investigates! (and its first-rate film noire parody) and Rarity Takes Manehattan (which boasts one of my fave songs in the entire series and Coco Pommel's debut). I've been far too stubborn about not letting my Rarity fan flag fly.
I will stick to my guns about not backing the Cutie Map episodes, however... although I suspect they will all make the cut regardless.
I'm trying to talk myself into backing Flight to the Finish as well but I'm not quite there yet.

In the future, if people update more than one vote, I'd prefer if they post the updated list too instead of just updating the original posts. Anyway, making the adjustments. As for the map episodes, what gets included on the guide won't be based solely on votes. I plan on seeing how things pan out in terms of character representation and such and suggesting adjustments.
EDIT: Also, I'd prefer if everyone used the episode numbers I did. I noticed that I previously miscounted UberTag's votes because of this. I'm going off of production order, which is how they're listed on Netflix.

ED's Luna Day (Winter Solstice) art post reminds me, it's often easy to forget that before Luna got her current design in "Luna Eclipsed", there was a ton of art using Luna with her season 1 design. Including the piece of fanart that started the "ponies wearing socks" trend that's still seen in pictures like the above.
I also remember when "Luna Eclipsed" was coming up and people were absolutely sure that there would be a fan riot due to the show version being nothing like the fan versions of Luna (which were similar to how Sunset Shimmer was handled in Rainbow Rocks, actually), and no such riot occurred. But one did occur with "The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well" a few episodes later. A recurring theme of season 2 was definitely fan riots not occurring when expected ("Luna Eclipsed", "A Canterlot Wedding") but instead happening for the most random episodes ("Mare-Do-Well", "The Last Roundup"). It's weird thinking of all this as having happened over three years ago. Well, at least I can't recall anything that really got fans in a riot mood since the Princess Twilight / Equestria Girls double whammy. It might be interesting to revisit posts from that time period.
Anyway, to get away from reminiscing, the cover for "Lyra and Bon Bon and the Mares from S.M.I.L.E." is out, and it's great.

Strange that Lyra and 'Sweetie Drops' both get to star in a spinoff comic. Its funny since Bon Bon seems to take Lyra's "human" quirks and Lyra's being dragged in to Bon Bon's old secret agent life.

Chapter book, not comic.
Anyway, it's hard to say what they'll do with Lyra and Bon Bon in the cartoon, along with the others that received focus in "Slice of Life". They'll almost certainly receive minor scenes like in "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?", but I can't imagine they'll get straight up focus episodes, considering how long it took for Big Mac, who was there from the start. The open question is whether they will be prominent side characters in an episode, along the lines of Maud in "Make New Friends but Keep Discord".
The show's Luna was also infinitely more interesting in all regards than the woobie everyone was writing her as, which helped.
As much as I agree with this, I can't be mad about it. The fact "Bon Bon the secret agent and her 'best friend' Lyra" is a totally canon thing that is getting an entire book dedicated to it is just too funny. Even "The Mares from S.M.I.L.E" cracks me up.

A PMV for every song on the Christmas album. It's a pretty simple edit of show clips, but I think they came out well. In particular, Fluttershy's "Silent Night" works well because of the lullaby from "Stare Master" and the various shots of animals and ponies being sleepy throughout the series.

I don't think the shift from just Twilight writing letters to everyone writing letters is something that one would even really notice if just watching necessary episodes, since the season 2 episodes I listed as necessary are just ones where Twilight is the one writing the report anyway, and they drop the letters in season 3. In any case, it isn't important for any of the two-parters.
As for "It's About Time", there's also the way it gets brought up in "Twilight's Kingdom". In any case, I'm going off of what I expect would have confused me. If I watched Star Trek IV without the knowledge that casual time travel was possible in that universe but they don't just because, I would have been confused because time travel was never really brought up in the previous movies.

So, ED made a big art post of plane ponies. I knew that there was plane pony art, but I hadn't realized there was this much, and this is probably just scratching the surface.

Season 5 poster revealed! Though they forgot to fill in a character near Dr. Hooves.
ED did a roundup of classic fan songs from 2011. It's kind of weird listening to them and realizing that none of them would really stick out if they were made now. Also, listening to stuff like "Twilight Sparkle's Theme", the only songs you could draw from to make a theme for her were "Winter Wrap Up" and "At the Gala" (something you saw in her Fighting is Magic theme too). Rainbow Dash and Applejack were even worse, since you only had their parts of "At the Gala" and BGM.
