Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis |OT| Time to Pharty Again

Because they stupidly defaulted the graphics settings to low. You need to manually change them.

So glad you told me this, I figured the 'balanced' setting did all that for me - but yup, you can just crank the settings up at zero framerate loss on the series x.

Game still looks like something the Vita could "have a go at" at times, they even reuse sound effects from the Dreamcast game. It's a right hodge-podge, but gameplay wise it's pretty good and it's nice starting at level 1 with the rest of the world again.

On XSX I cranked up everything + 60FPS
Looks and plays nice

There we go looks alot better with everything cranked up, cant believe 30fps is the standard option and you have to change it!

I finally got to start playing, you weren’t kidding when you said it’s ugly AF before you turn the settings up. 🤣

I was playing on my pc today on ultra settings with a 2080 and it looked and performed like shit.🤷‍♂️
It’s like it’s stuck at a low res and limited frame rate.

So far I like New Genesis.
Only things that bothers me are that the transitions between the areas could be more smooth and that they didnt update the old Outfits to work with the new bodies.
I still need to see/check what else can be used from PSO2

If they are going to release an Series update, then I am excited to know what they are going to implement.
Maxed out it is already pretty good

Anyone know if the chat box size can be adjusted and story box can be moved on XB? Liking the game so far but I want a more minimal UI. Default chat box is huge.

Maybe they'll utilize FPS boost at some point if possible but if they intended to give it that new gen polish, I feel like they would've talked about it by now since they talked about PSO2's engine revamp for a good while before it happened.

My god look at the comments on PSO Global Twitter. So much port begging for PS4/5. Maybe Sega/SquareEnix/Sony/MS should all sit down together and make a deal. FF7 Intergrade comes to Xbox and PSO2: NG comes to PS. Edit: I guess a trade that would make more sense is FF14 for New Genesis
Welll considering PSO2 was on PS4/Vita for years before there was an Xbox version(Hell it was on the Switch as well 2 years before the XB version) I understand. New Genesis is also releasing on PS4 in Japan so obviously there's a deal in place with Sega but I understand people asking for it.

I'm a PSO2 noob (only played the original version for a few hours) and the new/old model thing is confusing the hell out of me, especially when it comes to outfits. It seems like only 4 high-poly outfits are available from the start?
Are the Scratch Tickets the only way to get new high-poly outfits? Or can I unlock more through gameplay? Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm a FFXIV player so fashion is very important. :p

Played pos2 a couple months ago for the first time and was suprised how much i enjoyed it only put around 12 hours into it. Could deifnitely have put in more. Loved how it ran like butter. It was dated but the style of it kind of made up for it. Anyone running into performance issues with new genesis?

It runs at 60fps mostly but sometimes my game has severe drops to maybe the single digits for a couple seconds at a time. Could it be my pc or i should give this game a few patches?

Its wierd going from PSO2 which had so much content, to this which seems barebones as fuck right now. I know its a new release but I feel like a mug dropping money on premium when there isnt much more than a weekends content so far.

How do drops work in this? Played a few hours and not got a single weapon drop?

Oh, if only it t'wer...

I don't know if it's port-begging if it's already ported? This is a weird case where it's simply region-locked for exclusivity, so it's that much closer yet still out of grasp.

That said, it's exclusive for decent reasons supposedly, and MS has been instrumental in the worldwide PSO2 move, so Xbox/PC gamers deserve to enjoy it at the moment.

A word of advice : decide how your character is going to look during the creation process, and don't think that you will ever be able to change it. So choose wisely and take your time.

Obtaining items to change the appearance can be very difficult. PSO2 is nothing like PSO1, it is made to make you throw money at services. Altering your character is one of these services (actually, there are several, depending on what you want to change : colors, face details etc...)

At the start, you only have a few outfits indeed. New ones must be bought or gained as rewards for example.

30fps mode low res default haha..

It runs locked at 60fps in high mode on Series X - why is this not default?

Anyway - That intro is awful. Just awful. Boring tutorials with bad cutscenes. Then the game begins - and yeah this is some free to play feeling.. ugh

I really used to love Phantasy Star Online (on dreamcast)

Cranking up the graphics helped at lot. Silky smooth and the art style really carries the game's visuals at times. Particles really kill performance though. Playing as mage and every time I use the ice AOE spell, frame rate drops to what feels like single digits.

I played the game quite a bit yesterday evening, and it was an awesome experience !

I created my character, a tall, muscular amazon (some pics later). And then, I discovered the new game.

There was a story to begin the adventure, nothing amazing, but still nice to have. Then I was able to roam around the city and explore. The fact that it is now an open-world makes it really nice to travel. You have means to move around, like hovering. This is pretty fun.

What I want to point out are the adjustments they made. The experience was much more pleasant, and much less an inventory management nightmare. I played the entire evening without having to go to the storage even once ! What a great progress !

You can hold up to 100 items, instead of 50. And they drop a lot less. This makes up for a much better user experience really.

Visuals are nice on Series X, everything set to max, blur to off, fps to 60. There is still room for improvement, I noticed some ugly pixels in the distance at several occasions, but it felt pretty good overall.

Great improvement over the original PSO2 in terms of player fun. The game and its systems are much less in the way of the player.

But... Maybe you aren't technically skilled enough to use the menus and just want the cinematic experience.
Shouldn't it run better at lower setting?
If there's no bottleneck with higher settings then no.

I'm talking about the Series S version! I noticed my game was not done downloading , it was causing bad performance. I just picked it up and it's super smooth.

Finished the game there are like 5-6 hours of actual content and a few hours of grinding that's it i legit thought they would add more zones after the beta but they didn't.

At least i got my 100gb SSD space back now since i have no desire to play PSO2 classic atm might check back in a few years or so.

Maintenance now that could last up to 5 hours. I am having withdrawals already lol. I just want to dodge, parry and beat shit up with my cool ranger elf.

Enjoying it a lot. Look and plays great. Just annoying you need to finish the New Genesis Prologue before you can play vanilla PSO2 again.

Anyone having any weird issues on PC? Frame rate is unstable between 40-60, but if I increase the FPS limit it then stays at 60-90?

Having a blast playing the game on Xbox Series X.

Nearing the 1100 Battle Power that is required to advance the story. There is still the north area that I haven't explored, can't wait too see what lies there.
And normally, when I will reach 1184, I will be able to take part into the daily events where we have to fight a strong boss (I suppose).

Really enjoying my time so far. As this is the very beginning for this new game, content might be a bit limited, not too sure yet. But for now, it has been pretty great.

I borrowed an Xbox One from a friend and finally played New Genesis and wow, the game runs extremely poorly with severe framerate drops, and very low resolution (I swear this looks lower than 720p at times).

Fortunately the game has all the customizable graphic settings available so you can at least make it look like a LowSpecGamer tweak to keep the framerate a bit more stable, or crank it up for the slideshow experience (I guess you can use it to take screenshots).

At the very least I had my taste of the game. Maybe I'll get a Series X or a new PC in the next few years and finally be able to play it properly.

It plays decently on the Xbox One X, but it really, really sings on the Series X. All specs are to set to max here and the frame rate is buttery smooth

I've been playing this recently and it's fun... until you run out of quests/missions and then it becomes daily chores.

Well, today they updated the game to include a Sonic Collaboration

Only have to spend $100USD to dash like Sonic. What a steal! /s

Edit: Just to be clear, I am not averse to whaling (I've certainly done so in other games), but when the actual game content is so anemic... this just reeks of a cash grab.

This is the kind of game I enjoy a couple times every year. I played the launch content and had a lot of fun. I will come back to it next year I think, when more content will be available.

Have they added anything decent to this yet or said when they are intending to? Biggest joke of an MMO release in memory. Sad as PSO is my #1 goat

What's the issue? PSO1 is my GOAT as well but I never got into 2, although I briefly checked it out...maybe the original game is just too comfortably familiar to me, but 2 tried my patience and got uninstalled within a few hours.

But the NG impressions I see here seem pretty good, I didn't realize it was a new game and not just an expansion until today. I kind of want to try it but now you're saying it's a joke. If PSO is your GOAT I have to take your opinion seriously lol.

Sega seems to have heard all the complaining about lack of content because it says their will now be 2 parts to the major winter update.

The gameplay is phenomenal but there is nothing to do anymore and there is no challenge when fighting with a group. if you go to a empty block its really fun to fight a vet by yourself but fighting by yourself is not as fun and exciting.

There is only a few hours worth of content and nothing to aim for. Not even rare drops which is what PSO should be based around imo. The gameplay and world are excellent but dont waste your time on it. They released it around 2 years too soon.

Effectively they killed their own game, as there is also no reason to play PSO2 anymore lol

I also see the install size is over 100GB and requires Windows 10.

Yeah thanks I'll stick to PSO1 Ephinea server....

I recognize the issues with content this game has but I really am sad seeing the mass exodus it's having (knowing most won't be back). I really don't want to see this game die out because of it. I still login every day and have like 800 hours on it already, and I don't even play with others, it's all just solo except for UQ and Gigantix LOL, it's my chill game.

Sega plans to speed up the amount of new content, add an urgent quest schedule and they reveal a preview of the new desert region(see video in the link below

Today Sega hosted a livestream focusing on the future of Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, and this time the information was a lot broader compared to similar broadcasts in the past.

There was quite a bit of apologizing involved, and Sega addressed the fact that many players feel that the game doesn’t have enough playable content.

In order to fix this, the development team is working to accelerate the production of new content for upcoming updates after December.

We also hear that starting tomorrow, urgent quests will be announced ahead of time for one week. Also, when new urgent quests or expansions to current urgent quests are implemented, they will randomly happen at a higher rate for the first week. Developers will gauge the results of these changes to design the future direction for the feature.

I'm glad that Sega is willing to listen to the fans and I hope everyone takes part in that survey at the end of the month.

Anyone still playing this? My buddy and I are looking for something to play since we're close to being done with ER.

Played solo for a bit just now, combat and traversal is fun.
