Razor thin profit margins or losses are not ideal.
Microsoft certainly designed the console for near immediate profitability.
They are deviating from that.

But like you said, it may have been a necessary move.

I understand this logic perfectly.
what i do not understand is: if the following profits are so high on software and subscriptions, why aren't they all doing it all the time from the start? make all consoles 100$ and watch the cash rain down afterwards...

I'm sure they are losing money, but not as much as people think. Remember those people buying consoles and games will likely pick up another game with all the big hitters landing this month and XBL gold subscription, I think when you take the xbl gold subscription + 1 more game MS are probably profiting a fair bit.

Also, the only bundle available the whole month was AC which came with black flag, I can't imagine that game costing MS much now.

OT - I'll go with popular consensus that XB1 wins November NPD.
