Eh... that 830K November number was by no means a bad one for an early life system at $400.

The Xbox One was the market leader these last two months, they're selling largely to the same market of buyers. Particularly so early in the cycle.

PS4 is the overall leader, has the bigger LTD.

830k for november is fine, less than 1 million in december is not.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Sorry if it sounded that way, but I wasn't absolutely saying PS4 did bad in November. It had a very good November. The eck was referring to the possibility of PS4 selling under a million in December, with a very small increase from November.

So how much ground did Sony lose in November and December? Not trying to be douchey, genuinely curious what the current gap is.
It's great to see them both do well though!

The gap was at 700k at the end of November, correct? So at the end of December it is probably anywhere from 400k-600k. I'm super interested to see where it is too.

If Microsoft wants to badly win sure I can see it but I doubt they will go this low in 2015.

Why not? They more or less did this year. Take out AC Unity and Black Flag and that nets them $30+ to cut to $299 (given it was $330 everywhere) add in the fact they should get a revision done by then and they might even be a little better off this holiday than last.

IF they hit around 1.6 million truly an incredible holiday performance to Xbone. Who would have known after how rough of a year it had how awesome of a performance it would close the end of they year out with.

Wut? The 1.6M refers to Nov+dec 2006 for the XB1.

We know the PS4 sold 4.1 million consoles for the holiday season.

Well if we assume they sold 1 million this month in US (complete guess) and half of their november sales (around 400k and again a guess lol) came after 23th (their definition of holidays starting) PS4 must have had pretty insane holiday season in Europe considering abysmal sales in Japan.

Judging by LTD's 7.4 - 7.7m in US, it's hard to imagine PS4 did much above another 800k in December surely? US marketshare is around 40% and if they only did 4.1m WW over those 2 months that works out about 1.6m.

4.1 million wasn't 2 months of sales, it was 1 month+. (Nov 23rd till 3rd January)

Basically Sony only considered it to be 'holidays' starting late-November. Sales of early Novembere weren't included.

Yes, it has the higher lifetime sales. I don't know why you're telling me things I'm aware of. Unless you're talking about the impact of network effects I don't really know how that's relevant to whether being over or under a million in a second December tracking period is some sort of benchmark and/or pertinent to current sales rate market share for the core segment.

They're selling to the same audience. The increase in sales for the Xbox One has at least in part come at the expense of the PS4.
We didn't have two systems doing over a million in December selling to the core segment until 2009 last gen, with weaker Novembers.

Then you have later cycle sales numbers, where the target market for the systems has expanded more mainstream.

Allan already shattered my over/under on the number of times he uses the word disappointing to describe PS4 sales, and we don't even have numbers yet.

They are at $349 in january, $299 in november is possible.

MS will go $299 because with potentially so many releases and also being some of their biggest releases (Halo mainly) I don't think they will really take the risk of losing or "drawing", they will just go to win it and use software etc to make up the difference.

Wanted to ask in the splinter thread that was just locked.

Why did someone post "rip CBOaT"

because cboat posted fake npd numbers last month that claimed there was only a "7-10k" difference between xbox one and ps4. he got banned for a long time because of it.

the poster was implying that there was a gap between xbox one and ps4 between this month, so "rip cboat" was a bit of a riff.

:p

Well it has already done something the PS3 could never do in NPD land, actually win a holiday. Its a long battle but Microsoft is definitely stepping up to the plate and that can only benefit Xbox One owners. I, for one, am glad that Sony came out swinging because if Microsoft jumped out to a big lead they would end up doing what they did at the end of last gen, sitting on their hands and doing very little.

ahhhh, classic microsoft pr.

Paragraph number 1:
The past year was a fantastic one for the video game industry – and Xbox One ended 2014 with an unprecedented holiday season, becoming the best-selling console in the U.S. in November and December.* In fact, weekly average sales during these months outpaced Xbox 360 by 50 percent at the same point in its lifecycle.
