One thing's for sure, this is far better as a series finale than season 2's lol could you imagine?
I think it topped the Breaking Bad finale for me, or at the very least matched it. I honestly felt the same way at this end as I did for the ending of that other show. The finale itself was carthartic. At the end I just felt numb and so satisfied. The last 10 minutes are just fucking mind blowing. The visuals. The music. So beautiful. This adapatation completely annihilates the Bret Ratner adaptation of Red Dragon, which is the only one I've seen.
This show's version of Dolarhyde is godly. Like, actually fucking terrifying. A sinister as fuck killing machine. I just didn't see that in him in the promos before this arc began. Didn't think you can have a villian on the level of Hannibal. Guy was a beast.
As for the ending... You guys covered a lot of it already. If it doesn't continue I think I'm okay with it. I'm so satisfied with what happened. If it does continue I'm sure they can explain their way out of it and I'll still be satisfied. It works either way.
Btw, even though I personally enjoyed the first few episodes of this season. It's crazy to think how far we've come in 13 episodes. Where we were at the beginning of season 3. To the Verger farms. To this conclusion. 13 episodes and yet it feels like a longer journey to me. The story has been through so many places. Maybe the pacing was off for the first few episodes (although I personally enjoyed them) but they sure as hell made up for it during the rest of the season.

Hey, Lifetime put out UnREAL, so there's a chance their Clarice Starling show might be good.

She knew he would escape in S2, so she packed her bags and had plane tickets ready, etc, etc. She knew he was coming to eat her, so she prepared the meal herself. Hence why she is looking so nervous, hoping he's pleased.
Second, Hannibal was never random about what part of someone he ate, unless it was a "meal of opportunity" like Chilton's lip. Given his history with Bedelia, I am not sure why he would go the Eddie Izzard route again. And I don't think he ever repeated a meal in the entire series, so this is unlike him.
Finally, there is the presentation of the meal - note the leaves along the leg, tied in bows. It's a gift. She is making an offering of herself.

Just finished the finale and oh my god. I literally said that out loud during the last 5 minutes or so and number of times. That was a perfect ending. And it allows for more Hannibal should that day ever come.

WOOOOOOOOWWWW..... early this season, I assumed the finale would just be a lead-in to SOTL. I certainly didn't expect THAT ending, but I feel with respect to S1+S2, it was a brilliant finish. The song at the end was ridiculously chilling, and I've been thinking about that last scene for hours. And Bedelia --- that woman, there are no words...

You could, but the movies, the books and the show are separate entities and the knowledge of one of them is not required to enjoy any other.
The show is the best of all of them IMO, with possible exception of Silence of the Lambs.
The Red Dragon arc could have been better but that ending was a very satisfying end for the series. I still like Season 2 as the best series finale but it now pales in comparison with season 3 just existing.
That's the way I took it though I can see how they could have season 4 and that scene could be interpreted differently as a hint of the two surviving. It was a really good open door with how her panic could be many things but it works so well as an ending, showing Hannibal's overwhelming influence on people.

Mentioned it on the last page but you can see her eyes dart to the right when the camera focuses on her leg during that shot. Definitely someone there with her. Her expression seals the deal imo.

Having watched the scene again, doesn't look like there's a room to her right when the camera pans out for the last time like I originally thought. Still, her looking to her right seems too blatant to mean nothing. I'll take the intentional ambiguity either way, but I definitely interpreted it as Hannibal having made it out at least.

Has anyone mentioned the very very very subtle subtext of her dress? She's been rocking the funeral chic since Florence and suddenly she's in the most revealing outfit in her wardrobe. She looked like she had a pubescent but cultured teen for a stylist. Hannibal's fucking alive.

It's a perfect ending like I said, but it was absolutely not made with that in mind, which is why I'm kind of confused with the misinterpretations. We've heard repeatedly for months that this wasn't meant to be the end, that it would still satisfy if it was though.

They could have went in an entirely different direction in another season or a film, but
Alana saying to him "you've never felt comfortable in your own skin, what makes you think you'd be comfortable in someone else's" seems like way too much a coincidence of a line if they weren't at least considering going that path. Certainly wouldn't be the first time they made a big change, and also certainly wouldn't be the first time they have Chilton ultimately get fucked up in the end of a season.

anyway, beautiful ending. it needs to continue. not right now, but sometime.

As someone else said, the point of the end credits is to show Hannibal's agency still lives on in the world.

It may just be that she is looking towards the entrance in anticipation of Hannibal, but he never comes.
She did that so when Hannibal came he woildn't want to kill her but instead get horny and want to make love to her instead. She's doing EVERYTHING in her power to appease Hannibal for when he inevitably comes for her to eat her (as she states in the beginning of the episode when Will speaks about letting Hannibal go and how he should just slit their throats already since Hannibal will surely kill them).

As for any future stories, I see
Chilton taking on a Mason Verger role (seeking revenge). Alana is obviously now in Chilton's old role. But I can't fathom how Will's story continues. Is he truly working with Hannibal now? And, once again, poor Molly and her kid. There is still a lot they could explore before they ever got to SotL.

there is no way you can adapt Silence after this, so either Fuller fully knew this was the end or he was planning to do all new material, which is fine.

Man, I just keep running that ending over and over again in my head.
I might be alone in this, but I really didn't like the ending. But then again, I have always been annoyed by how Fuller handled Will Graham's character and the focus on some sort of romantic connection between Hannibal and Will, so the ending of the show revolving around that was extremely disappointing for me.
Also, was it just me or were Molly, her son and Freddy Lounds just useless wastes of screentime? All of them had their most important scenes from the book cut and/or switched to another character. I would've rather had that those characters were just cut from the season in favor of more development for Dolarhyde, who felt like some poorly written side character.

I would say that Dolarhydes character was done masterfully, until the finale.
It really didn't fit with the evolution of his character
My main gripe with Dolarhyde in the show was that the whole internal struggle between The Dragon and his affection for Reba was kind of thrown out, which made the sudden change from 'Hey Reba, I'm going to kill you now' to 'Oh, I can't watch you burn' in the opening scene of this episode really odd.
I mostly watched for the other characters and their interactions with Hannibal (and the other murderers on the show), and really the 'Hannibal <3 Will'-angle was much less obnoxious in S1 and S2. In this season I actually zoned out as soon as Will and/or Bedelia came on screen because it's the only thing they talked about.
