NPD Sales Results for May 2016

Tomb Raider sales on Win 10 Store was just 2%. In QB case is 100%.
I can't work out for your teasing here or not.

Anyway W10 store sales for QB won't be saving the day. Majority of PC gamers aren't touching it vs Steam. Volume wise the 100% of Win 10 Store is likely the same as the 2% for Rise while neither MS or Temedy is seeing the other 98%.

The game bombed man. It's done. XB1 sales are clearly low and W10 sales are sure to be even lower. Just let it go. QB ended up belonging to the alternative reality where XB1 took off and the game was lauded for symbolising the marriage of games and TV media the console delivered.

In this reality though it's probably going to bomb worse than The Order. This is clutching at straws that have been melted by a blow torch.

But we don't know how tiny is in this case, since is the only option to play the game on PC.

With Steam I don't see a point in buy a game on Windows 10 Store, but if there's no other choice...

Do you consider XB1 numbers tiny? Cause I bet PC sales are way worse.

I'm not arguing against this.

We don't know how tiny but it's almost assuredly tiny.

XB1 sales were awful. PC version was a mess. Full price. Windows store. Extremely high requirements. Terrible word of mouth.

This is the second time in the last week I've seen a long argument against comparing two values with a ratio instead of an absolute value.

Both methods are equally valid. They convey the same information in a slightly different fashion.

Ratios do not convey the same information as absolute values in a slightly different fashion.

The Wii U sells 20x to 30x more systems than the Xbone in Japan on a regular basis. Awesome ratio that is totally meaningless since the actual numbers of Wii U systems sold is terrible.

If, in the US, say the PS4 sells 5000 units in a month and the Xbone 2500, the fact that the PS4 sold twice as many units would be completely irrelevant. It would be equally disastrous for both systems,

Ratios convey relevant information when we have approximate absolute values. Without any estimate of absolute values, they are nearly meaningless.

People also got a free windows store key for the game when they pre ordered the xbone version. That will have satiated a good chunk of any serious buyers.

Sony made a flat out better piece of kit from the beginning however, that many love to overlook as "now they are resting on their laurels"
It's silly...

Maybe i'm alone in thinking this but i don't think Sony's console is better overall right now. They made a console capable of slightly better looking games, i agree. But It's a console that is usually louder than the Xbox, with a controller that has zero charge sustainability with a pointless LCD and a big glowy thing that so far isn't used for anything. They don't upgrade their software that often, and there's very little else it does that the X1 doesn't do, and do better.

Again, maybe i'm alone on that but to me it's more like Sony created better word of mouth with a traditional launch that didn't deviate or try to do anything crazy from last gen with an edge in fidelity at a lower price.

Microsoft is a brand that people love to shit on, despite using a lot of their products (windows, office, etc). The pre-launch fumble blew the doors open for the onslaught. It's their fault, no question but the product itself is solid and only gets better.

Quantum Break is to Xbox One what The Order: 1886 was to PS4. The story and characters were the best thing about the game. Effects were great but the gunplay and non-existent cover system were average at best. Simply, Quantum Break was a huge disappointment which also explains why Remedy is looking for a new publisher.

The gunplay and time mechanics in QB make for some of the best combat scenarios I've played in a third person shooter, so I will respectfully disagree.

There are elements of QB that I found disappointing, but the combat was definitely a highlight.

How is the overall package compared to say, Alan Wake? I look forward to playing it. Sas to hear that the platforming was mediocre.

The games resemble each other more than one might think gameplay wise. To me it's obvious they are both Remedy games. I liked Alan Wake much more, though. Partly for the story, partly for the atmosphere. The combat is better in Quantum Break, although I thought it was very repetitive after a while. Remedy really need to work on variety in their games. Why not use vehicles? More weapons? Something! What you get the first hour is what you get in the entire game.

Overall, QB was a 7/10 for me. The story is pretty good but I never cared much for the characters and the game lacks the humor and amazing atmosphere Alan Wake had, where I could just run around admiring the environments, talking to people and not least listening to the radios scattered around the area (reading very long emails in QB was never any fun).

These are minor problems.

The combo better specs+lower price was golden. Early adopters in general are well informed people and all the talk about 1080p at lower price put Xbox One in a dificult position.

In fact Xbox One initial sales (3 million at the end of 2013) was pretty strong for a console in this unfavorable scenario. The power of the brand in North America and UK was key to push sales at $500 with weaker specs.

I own both consoles but easily prefer my PS4 over my Xbox One. Hell, my Xbox One is in the box in my closet until Gears of War 4 gets released. My console (Uncharted Collection bundle) is quiet. Gets a little hot sometimes but otherwise, no problems. I use the USB cable when playing so I can't comment on the lack of the battery staying charged.

I like both controllers so that's even. PS4 though has far more and better exclusives than Xbox One does. PS4 has far more and better Indies and PSN games than Xbox One does. Installing a game is ultra fast on PS4. On Xbox One, it's slow as hell. And the dashboard, my goodness, it's horrible. PS4's dashboard is bad too but at least it's fast.

As for updates, I don't care nor do I care about apps and all the other stuff so neither console means anything to me in this aspect. Worse thing is that Xbox One is missing an on/off option for the controller vibration. Seriously, how Xbox 360 had this but Xbox One doesn't is beyond me. PS4 is my primary console. Used for multi-platform, psn, indie and exclusive games while Xbox One is used just for exclusives.

For me personally, this generation is the opposite of last generation.

So how many sales did it have? 100k? 200k? More sales on PC than console?

Bingo.

lol why you asking me? I have no idea. All I know is I can pull better and more accurate number out of my ass than your 15k figure.

Just one little thing the PS4 does better. Games. It has sheer quantity (and thus quality) over XB1.

I own all three current-gen systems. I have absolutely nothing against Microsoft or the Xbox brand.

I rarely turn on my XB1. It's easily the worst console I've purchased since....shit, I don't even know. It offers very, very little for me as a multiconsole owner. I have a lot of issues with Wii U, but I'd never even consider selling it. I've thought about getting rid of my XB1 a number of times. It's practically useless to me at the moment, outside of some 360 BC content.

Fortunately, there are a number of great-looking games coming, like Scalebound, Cupthead, and Gears of War 4.

The effects and time mechanics were great but the gunplay itself was bad. Maybe it was because I was coming off 120 hours of The Division which to me had exceptional gunplay and cover system while Quantum Break was lacking in both.

Story and characters is what made me play through the game but I wasn't a fan of all the documents, notes etc. that had to be read to get more out of the story. 7/10 for me personally. Worse thing was that every action sequence was spoiled in every trailer. I can understand showing one, maybe two but almost every one? UGH.

I enjoyed The Order: 1886 more than Quantum Break. Granted, not by much but still, enjoyed it more. No biggie though.

Out of Quantum Break, Gears of War 4 and ReCore, im happy that I was already disappointed as it decreases the chances of me being disappointed with either of the other two games.

Shame about QB. I like Remedy quite a bit, I hope this doesn't hurt them in the long run.

Thanks to Aquamarine on the gamrconnect forums.

PS4 Hardware:
May 2016 NPD: 207,300 (+35.8% from last May)

XBO Hardware:
May 2016 NPD: 107,100 (-23.3% from last May)
Ouch. Being outsold almost 2:1 on your home turf has to sting.

I loved the combat but overall, I agree with most of what you're saying. I'd give it a 7/10 as well. I enjoyed it a lot, but it's full of little things that bother me. The show wasn't very good and for the love of god, developers have to learn how to tell a story without littering the world with documents and e-mails.

Opinions? Sure. Mine is completely opposite though.

The major advantage of PS4 in terms of games are japanese and indie tittles. For the average player in the west I don't think this makes much difference.

I like more of the Xbox One exclusives too, despite the wider offer on PS4.

which makes sense. I am almost unaware of these Japanese titles, and don't know last indie game I ever played.

Titanfall, Sunset, Halo 5, Forza 6, Horizon 2. These are what I call quality titles, and where I have spent most of my gaming time in last 2 years.

The quantity metric isn't an opinion. The PS4 has more games.

I guess an argument can be made on the quality metric (though even that's hard to argue against due to the sheer quantity of titles).

iOS has even more games, so that wins? LOL I am talking about quality. and no quantity does not mean quality. What interests you the most, and which game you play the most. are the things what makes the console appealing. Which is different for everyone.

Oh yeah, I really like all these games, plus the multiplats there's no way of be disappointed with Xbox One, I'm not a player of these niche japanese too.

The hardware could be a little better, but this ship has sailed.

Ok opinions, but if do the math his comment is right!

The only thing that stops me from buying an xone is that ms exclusive output is sparce this gen! And if they launch scorpio soon i feel they will drop the support for xone as they did with the 360 im the end of the previous gen!

While Sony on the other hand has the studio power and invests in all genres. Also there is a readon Sony has more 3rd party exclusives!

It's funny, because my two most anticipated XB1 games are an indie (Cuphead) and a Japanese title (Scalebound).

The vast majority of MS's AAA games have little appeal to me, though I am excited for Gears 4, Crackdown, and am somewhat interested in Halo Wars 2.

Yeah, but in context, the PS4 had its big IP finally launch and the Xbox One's price rose $50 and also had no exclusive launch.

Once the slim comes out, then it will hurt if they are in this situation again.

What is your number then?

If Tomb Raider pulled 15k, despite being on steam, QB easily > 15k being on only in Windows store :)
This is the most logical thing I think of.

Yup, which isn't surprising to me. But to me, those type of games just doesn't click. Shooting, racing and AAA action games. Are the once that gets my attention.

Sure, iOS wins I guess? Is this a jab? I play mobile games and I got nothing against em.

I think your misinterpreting my post by adding your opinion on to it.

The PS4 has more games then the XB1. That's not up for debate.

The reason I made my initial comment is simple. Some people have specific gaming tastes (such as you and Allan) and some people have wider gaming tastes (such as me).

In that scenario, having a sheer quantity of more titles results in more quality titles then the competition.

It really wasn't that loaded or controversial of a statement.

Microsoft does seem to shoot themselves in the foot a whole bunch. How did windows 10 become malware. I get the sense that the company is run by a bunch of alpha males/females that don't understand human interaction beyond power dynamics.

But yeah, the noise of the ps4 is TERRIBLE. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except Pete Townshend.

I can see where you coming from. But as a shooter and racing fan. PS4 just doesn't offer any quality games to me. So I would have to disagree with you. You can of course name lot of multiplatform games, but then again. I can play all those on both console but on Xbox if you are shooter and racing fan, you have Titanfall, Halo, Gears, yearly quality Forza games.

Anyways this whole argument is stupid. my point being is, PS4 offers more quantity and games for wide variety of taste. Which is a fact, but that doesn't mean it has more quality games then Xbox. That's an opinion,

not every ps4 is loud. That's specific from model to model and if you know how to clean it or not.

They made a console in the exact same time frame and one has Better tech in it, that's just better engineering flat out. Share button, recording gameplay, broadcasting, etc...we're all updates MS had to catch up to, and share play is a great exclusive feature. I agree X1 does some things better, as I said Xbox benefits from MS being a software company, but the features that really matter to most gamers are pretty equal across the platforms.

And we use a lot of MS products because we have to, they have a monopoly on the workforce. At home, I don't use a single MS application besides One Drive. Google and Apple have had a ton of innovating tech, many times outclassing MS even in software.

Well as I said, to me it was shooter and racing. Took years to release Driveclub, and don't like that game at all by the time GT comes out, PS4 will be beginning its 4th year. It has been hot garbage console if you love racing imo. Meanwhile there has been 3 quality racing games on Xbox. And of course, there might be someone who finds Forza absolutely trash and Driveclub GOAT. so yeah.

But we don't know how tiny is in this case, since is the only option to play the game on PC.

With Steam I don't see a point in buy a game on Windows 10 Store, but if there's no other choice...

Sure we don't know but the probability is incredibly high. A game like QB is not going to sell well on PC, even with Steam until it hits steal deal prices.

PS4 has both quality and quantity, Metacritic bears that out, the two are not mutually exclusive.

heh? care to explain why anyone who absolutely love racing to buy PS4 and not Xbox One? I am actually interested to know now.

DriveClub became better.

GT on the horizon. 3rd Party racers perform better on PS4. I think they are pretty even in the racing department now, and the PS4 will come out ahead in the long run.

Because he may love other Sony franchises as well?

Yet Wipeout remains MIA....

This is a very one sided post. The ps4 does a lot better IMO, the OS is way faster, game installs are far better on PS4. X1 still doesn't have background music, has nothing like shareplay (Best OS feature along witjh Suspend resume). Communities is a great feature imo, we use it a long for destiny raids, something else X1 does not have, I like the 15 mins recording (versus) 5 better and the share button is better then the x1's setup.

Zero charge sustainability, it lasts 8 hours, I have never gamed that long in one setting and have yet to run out. hyperbole.

PS4 has Japanese support, plays Multiplats better, and has more games in all genres, and better indie support.

heh? care to explain why anyone who absolutely love racing to buy PS4 and not Xbox One? I am actually interested to know now.

Better wheel support, Drive club is the most underrated racer this gen and Gt is months away.

Can we drop the opinionated console-wars-esque stuff in the NPD thread?

I apologize for not making my initial post clearer. It wasn't meant to be opinionated but rather list a factor for PS4s success.

Your right , apologies, just saw a post and responded.

DriveClub becomes better, sure an opinion. and GT on horizon. 3 years after the console was launched. I mean I am not talking about why anyone would buy PS4 for GT. Its from launch to now, I have played so much of F5, Horizon and F6 in last 3 years. So to someone like me, PS4 doesn't offer what I want. If you love racing and shooter genre, Xboxone has been the best choice is all I am trying to say imo.

But then you get into the argument that oh all third party games performs better on PS4. But then you don't get Titanfall, Halo, Gears. So depends what's more important to you. Playing COD at full 1080p or playing Xbox exclusive games and COD on dynamic resolution. Again opinion.

Let it go. Its all opinion. This discussion has no end.

How is the overall package compared to say, Alan Wake? I look forward to playing it. Sas to hear that the platforming was mediocre.

Combat is much better. Story isn't as good. But it isn't as long. I beat it twice and got 1000/1000. If you like Remedy games, it's worth checking out. I
