Blizzard was totally off my radar before this gen, but now I love them

As a console gamer who grew up almost totally clueless about PC games, I barely knew who Blizzard was before this gen. I knew about Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, and WoW, but I had no idea who made them. When Diablo 3 came out for consoles early in the gen, it blew me away. I got hooked big time and had a ton of fun playing with my buddies. Then as the release of Overwatch neared, I decided to look into it. While I thought it looked great, I didn't know who Blizzard was and why everyone was so hyped for a new game from them. That was just a little over a year ago!

Then OW came out and Blizzard really got on my radar. Since then I've been slowly checking out their other games. I got into Hearthstone last August and have played it pretty consistently since, and then just three weeks ago I got hooked on Heroes of the Storm. Both games are in genres I've never played before, and it's been so fun playing games totally unlike anything I've played before. It makes me want to get into PC gaming more... though we'll see if I actually follow through on that.

Kinda the opposite for me.

Loved their previous work, but the last three WoW expansions (minus Legion), HotS, Hearthstone, Diablo III at launch, and Overwatch lost me.

Although very recently I've turned a little bit.

Blizzard is one of the best developers ever, and not just in one genre either. RTS, MOBA, action-adventure, cards, and now FPS arena shooters.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Blizzards doing really well nowadays but imo they were at the height of their greatness in the early 2000s.

Starcraft Brood War
Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction
Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne

The holy trinity 🔥 🔥 🔥

Well that's because it is only with their recent games that they have returned to form. Hearthstone & Overwatch are superlative.

The sequels to their mainline games....not so much.

Blizzard has been on my watch since before they where called Blizzard Entertainment. Started it all with Rock & Rock Racing on the super nintendo, after that The Lost Vikings on PC.

When Warcaft 1 hit it took me away and Warcraft 2 even further, i have been a fan of them for many many years. To me there games are quality over quantity (yes they made mistakes with WoW and Diablo 3 before it became Reaper of Souls).

But overall there approach be it in art, music, graphics it is something that holds me like no other game does. And for most the atmosphere in every game, you can feel how much love they made into those games.

I really like Blizzard's non-Overwatch games: WoW (which I rejoined for Legion), Heroes of the Storm, Diablo III.

Overwatch's gameplay is fun, but the loot structure and abusive competitive modes kill all the fun for me.

That's my take as well. The amount of hours I put into SC:BW and WC3 for a good 12 years is a crazy thought.

But that's when I had too much time to play so that's probably why..

Same here. Down side to my new found love for Blizzard is that I don't have a PC at all.

I found out about Starcraft mid last year. While I don't have a PC I enjoy watching the Starcraft ESL on Youtube. I love Diablo 3 on the PS4 and like watching the lore of their games on Youtube. Hearthstone was my jam for a good bit.

Yup, modern Blizz is still great, but boy have they set an insanely high bar.

Same dude! They might not be super original, but they do everything exceedingly well. So much polish and charm that's irresistible.

Brood War is so fucking good.

If you haven't played StarCraft, do it now. It's free.

It's very much been the opposite for me over. I understand they still make very high quality games, they just aren't for me anymore. Luckily I'll always have Diablo 2.

They really have made their presence known to console gamers. Hell the past couple years have really brought them back for me on PC. For a while it just felt like WoW and that was it. Now I play Overwatch all the time, Im getting into HotS, I play hearthstone with my wife sometimes, and Diablo is really fun to sit back and relax to on consoles. Before I barely touched Blizzard games aside from when the Starcraft expansions released. Can't wait for the remaster of Broodwar.

I tend to forget that Overwatch is a Blizzard title because the thought of Blizzard making a first-person shooter is still so foreign to me.

I think Blizzard has highs and lows.I definitely feel that WoW met a decline when Activision bought them out, but that doesn't discredit that they've developed a very solid ecosystem of good games beyond that.

There was a time when I blindly bought a new blizzard game. But the initial Diablo 3 release broke their good game streak and I'm not talking about connection issues. The game design was flawed. Then came mists of panderia, followed by legacy of the void, overwatch and now hots 2.0
Now I barely care about their products anymore. Blizzard has changed.

I respect that a lot of people are big fans but I don't really dig their games.
I enjoy Dota2 and TF2 sizably more than HOTS and OW
I get Dota 2, but TF2 is so old and the achievement/weapon/hats update killed it for me.

When it was launched with the Orange Box, it was freaking fantastic.

How can anyone even begin to or imply that Blizzard sucks in any form or time frame. They are one of the best developers of ALL TIME. I think only Nintendo rivals their success, and even then, their hit rate for producing critical and commercial hits is not on the same level as Blizzard. EVERYTHING they've done has been atleast good and most have been great.

Overwatch -> Best Arena Shooter of All Time
StarCraft -> Best RTS of All Time
Diablo -> Best Dungeon Crawler of All Time
WOW -> Best MMO of All Time
WarCraft -> Best RTS until Starcraft hit
HeartStone -> Best Online Card Game thingy of All Time

... Heard their DOTA type game is good too, but I never got into that Genre and heard there are some competitors that are possibly better.

I miss the old blizzard...
Their games are still extremely good, they've just got much more different style and appeal to a different audience nowadays

Overwatch is good and the free updated Starcraft 1 has me pumped to play through the campaign again, but Diablo 3 really killed them for me.

Diablo 1 and 2 had this atmosphere that was as attractive as the loot grind. Diablo 3 was the loot grind painted thinly in the same shade as the first games. Diablo and his minions became cartoons.

I don't think I can ever forgive them for that.

Before StarCraft 2 & Overwatch I didn't really care for most previous Blizzard games (Diablo stands out as excellent though).

Didn't even care for SC1 even though I love SC2..

Blizzard is one of the few developers that share the designation "Top Tier" in my headspace. When I think of The Cream of the Crop, they are one of the ones that comes to mind.

Grew up playing Blizzard games, still the best developer around even though I'm not all that keen on Overwatch or Hearthstone. I'm hoping they will look into making a console version of HotS because my SP3 isn't good enough to run it.

Imo, every hero moves very slow, the reliance on abilities with cooldowns, the lack of interest movement abilities. It's just not as exciting or enough like a quake/arena shooter for me. I get the appeal, and I'm glad it's out there.
