PewDiePie Responds after using racial slur

What I am trying to say is that depending where you come from you either get shit for using the N word or you don´t. A whole lot of musicians are not getting any negative feedback for being sexist or or using racial slur, whereas Youtubers do...
I refuse to believe you are making this argument in good faith

H3h3 are streaming their podcast right now on this issue and their response is pretty much how I thought it would look like:

"We're disappointed, but he's not racist. He hasn't beaten up a black person, so his actions are not really racist ... Is this an issue that mostly white people are raving about? ... Developers that are distancing themselves from PDP are evil and just seek revenge..."

Damn H3 y'all were the last I'd think to defend him :(

What musicians?

Okay, I must've missed that line.

Yeah fair enough that part wasn't great.

I also added the 30 second clips so people will see. Yeah, it wasn't great. In fact, it's downright stupid they would say that. But hey, "It's a livestream so anything can slip out".

Then fucking think before you actually say.

Pretty obvious why

Sorry but what is it about the hypocrisy of the US? Basically any artist can sing using the N word as long as they are black but any popular white person is getting crap for doing so? Being a frickin sexist in songs is ok too it appears, racism as well.. sorry I don´t get it.

Are their supportrers considered that dumb and easy to influence?

How about you stop trying to justify some bullshit with something else? The guy said something wrong and he's being raked over the coals for it. There is nothing hard to "get" here. Don't fucking say the word. If you hear it in a rap song, you still don't get to say the word. Get the hell over it. So sick of this "but rappers say it" bullshit. Are you itching that bad to say it?

I refuse to believe you are making this argument in good faith

He's not, I'm done giving people the benefit of the doubt too. If someone's argument is to bring up rappers saying the n word then they're already shown your ignorance imo.

H3H3 went radio silent on Jontron around the same time their content pretty all became "lol look at these dumb feminists/SJW types!"

This was to be expected.

Fuck 'em. I unsubbed ages ago. Last I saw a clip of them they were hosting fucking Joey Salads.

Fuck H3H3, they're spineless centrists like Boogie.

"It's not that I think I can get away with saying whatever I want"

That's exactly what he thinks. Immediately afterwards, he was joking with his friend about how little he cares about the potential fallout from this. Acknowledging they this is the latest in a string of apologies for the same kind of thing doesn't lend sincerity either, it just makes him look bad at dogwhistles.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

What you're boiling this down to is basically "Why can black people say it but I can't?".

That's an important qualifier buried in your post.

They couldn't even say anything about the JonTron controversy. That one was way too hot for them to handle so they stayed away from it.

Kinda weird that they made living of calling out people that have done stuff like JT or PDP have done recently but won't actually call them specifically out at all.

It might have something to do with those musicians being black? I don't know what is so hard to understand, it's a word that's meant to put down black people and they really don't want people to use it to put them down. Do people really need to say the word so badly that they're coming up with all sorts of excuses?

I'm fan of H3H3's youtube videos, but it really sucks that them making some videos about the more outrageous social justice types ("digital blackface" or that manspreading video) are attracting a big crowd of alt-right nasties. It would serve them well to put out a serious video distancing themselves from people who are constantly acting in a racist way like PDP and Idubbzzzzzz.

" why can black people say stuff I can't"

It's crazy. It's like they must have everything under the sun.

Sigh...... because context.

Because it was a word invented by white people to dehumanize black people they had enslaved. So when a black person says it there's none of that history and power behind it.

But hey, Junior account asking the same question a lot of Juniors keep asking despite google being really fucking easy to use.

(not specifically whoever I replied to earlier, I don't know them) I don't. I made sure to include that. Just relating my experience in general, should have clarified better. It definitely comes in all different forms, and with what I've been dealing w post-trump especially, this is small-potatoes to me. Still shitty, of course, but maybe that's seen as ignorant to some of you, and that's okay.

Yup, people are shitty. I've been playing online for more than 15 years. As shitty as it seems, the ratio of ignorant, angry racists who shout racist shit at me as soon as they find out I'm black to those that don't is slim. I'm glad that's not the case for you.

Sorry to lash out that hard but that made me a bit upset. Anyway I know there are a ton of shitty racist people. But I don't everyone is like that or even most people.

Of course he knows he could just Google what he supposedly doesn't "get". Whatever, he'll be banned soon enough anyway.

Maybe you should consider that your lack of knowledge and understanding about the word "nigger" in America coupled with your apparent disdain for blacks puts you at a much greater disadvantage in this conversation than my not speaking 5 languages.

h3h3 is AT BEST a coward afraid to upset the status quo. But probably also a piece of shit since he could just say nothing and things wouldn't change anyway, as history has shown youtube doesn't care. Same reason I no longer consider Boogie just a coward.

There's people without food and water and then there's 200pgs of people taking about 1 guy saying a rude word. I don't believe the whole "he influences the next gen of kids", we all had some brains to know what's right and wrong even as kids listening to dr dre. Yes, it's wrong, but so much drama?

Black rappers

As far as I am concerned it is now a black persons word to do whatever the fuck they want with it. I would tell people that object to that statement to look into why it's used in the way it is by black people, in the US in particular. But I think that may be asking too much of them...

Over the course of the video that frequently mentioned how many subscribers he has, White Supremacist puns, and joking how much he looks like he belongs in the KKK, PewDiePie made clear in the video that despite owning a complete KKK outfit with a certificate of authenticity from a noted historian, he does not want to be associated with the hate group.

Too good, just too good

Its almost like more than 1 thing can be bad! Shocking right?

Believe what you want but all you have to do is look at the comments of this video to know otherwise.

Thread whining is against the TOS and it is a racist word, not a rude one.

This a gaming forum. Not a food bank.

So starving kids is kind of... irrelevant? But the toxicity of our community absolutely is.

If you are concerned about starving kids you could always volunteer at a shelter.

Did you watch from the beginning, coz this is grossly misrepresenting what has gone down in this podcast. He said many times that he was extremely disappointed in Pewdiepie and that he refuses to defend him this time.

I too was very worried that Ethan would end up defending him given his history but was pleasantly surprised.

This is a fair point. I just though the post I was quoting wasn't really giving an accurate description of the general tone that the podcast had taken over the issue. They were both incredibly critical of both Pewdiepie and those defending his use of the word.

I think ppl should watch it for themselves before jumping to conclusions.

Ethan Klein: "It's a livestream. Shit can happen. Doesn't make him a horrible person or a racist. It's not the same as beating up a black guy and burning a cross on someone's lawn."

Hila Klein: "Yeah, it's not like we watched him do an act of racism."

Sounds pretty clear cut that H3H3 don't think Pewdiepie did anything racist. Which is just wrong on H3H3's part. Again.

....a rude word? what the heck?

This is worse than the people saying it's "just a bad word"

And yes, Pewdiepie does influence people. A ton of people. He is THE single biggest Youtuber, period. He is very influential; not only on impressionable kids (and even teens/young adults), but on YouTube as a whole. If he got away with this, it sends the message that it's okay. "The biggest Youtuber ever said it, so clearly it's fine!"

Kodiak

Not an asshole.
The strange thing is the lack of self awareness. The people defending Pewdiepie are almost all white and male, across the board. And many of the people publicly criticizing Pewdiepie are black. How oblivious do you have to be to try and defend racist language as a white person? Why choose that battle for yourself?

It's especially strange to see this all happening during the Trump administration. JonTron, H3H3, Pewdiepie, all these prominent white male youtubers all trying to defend a position on this that is indefensible. Just... why? Why fight for this? Just stop.

Not the best example considering his success and lack of real atonement

If you watch the actual channels of those Youtube Stars and especially their chats you can only assume how impressionable all those young kids are who are looking up to their idols. These huge Youtube streamers have a HUGE responsability, so yes: so much drama is completely justfied from my point of view.

Oh, and get out with stupid phrases like "well, the real problems out in the world are starving people". That's probably the laziest debate killer ever.

Funny how many of the white gamers defending PDP would be the same people bemoaning his success just a year ago too... wonder what's different now? 🤔
